FULL-SERVICE STAR MANAGER FULL-SERVICE STAR ASSOCIATERadisson Harrisburg would like to acknowledge Shannon Beaverson as the Full-Service STAR Associate award recipient. She is a “remarkable” person according to her co-workers and is willing to go the extra mile to ensure guest satisfaction. Shannon comes in early and stays late and is always ready to assist in any way possible.

She is consistently pleasant and treats her co-workers and guests with the utmost respect. Not only does Shannon work as a banquet server, but also assists as a server in the restaurant and is a member of the Safety Committee. She shows initiative and is always willing to help new staff learn and adapt to our procedures.

Her highest priority, however, is the care of Radisson guests to make sure they have a wonderful experience while staying at the Hotel. When seeing anyone in need, such as a differently abled person, she will offer to help them by going to the buffet and making them a plate or just walking beside them while carrying their plate for them. Her job knowledge is outstanding and she is able to take ownership of her tasks and complete them in record time.

Above all this, Shannon is an excellent banquet server and always provides guests help in an efficient, friendly and professional manner. She’s a very important member of the Radisson and HMC’s team.

SELECT-SERVICE STAR MANAGER SELECT-SERVICE STAR ASSOCIATE

HMC and the Sheraton Harrisburg Hershey has selected Cathy Gouldner, Human Resources Manager, as their STAR Manager of the Quarter.

Cathy has been at the property since March, 1981, when she was hired as the HR Assistant and has been the mainstay during different management changes and processes.

She has an open door policy with all staff members and consistently goes above and beyond to assist everyone. She also volunteers to assist other departments when they need help or are short staffed. Currently, her HMC training is at 100% and she assisted with the transition of a new HR Manager at the Radisson Hotel in Harrisburg, PA. The hotel has been re-certified for another year (along with the Radisson) for Pennsylvania’s Workplace Safety Committee (which allows a 5% discount on workers compensation premiums).

Cathy also assisted the Accounting department in the transition to a new payroll/HRIS system and remains involved with the Service Culture Training and Starwood.

She is truly an asset to everyone at the Hotel, as well as HMC, and we are happy to recognize her outstanding performance with this quarter’s STAR award.

The El Paso team provided numerous services to their community over the holidays. The team worked with a local homeless shelter by stocking their pantry and serving people over the Thanksgiving holiday. In addition, they hosted their Annual Lee Moor Children’s Home Christmas Party. The Hotel provided gifts donated by employees/guests to 76 children from age 3-18 by drawing names. Hawthorn El Paso is also recognized by their community for oustanding efforts in giving back in the area and we are proud of their efforts.

HAWTHORNE El PASO SHARES WITH LOCAL CHARITIES

Sheraton Harrisburg Hershey performed numerous community efforts on behalf of the Hotel over the last few months including support for the children at Penn State Hershey Medical Center for Christmas. The kitchen staff prepared the food and Samantha Brant, Banquet Manager, and Jose Berrios, the Hotel’s Banquet Captain, delivered, set-up and served food to the children parents and staff.

In addition, the Hotel participated in a food drive during the month of October to benefit the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank.

HOLIDAY GIVING FROM THE TEAM AT SHERATON HERSHEY

Donations were abundant for Baymont Big Springs’ Holiday Clothing Drive event. The Hotel was pleasantly suprised by the generosity of the community. They received donations of all kinds including boxes and boxes of clothing, a recliner, a 10-speed bicylce, new clothing items, toiletries and much more. They were able to deliver donations to the local shelter numerous times per week during the collections and when the gifts were donated in bulk, they were delivered immediately. In fact, they had to close the donations early due to the overflow of items. Thanks to the efforts of the employees in Big Springs, many people in need and their homeless neighbors enjoyed a nicer holiday.

BAYMONT BIG SPRINGS HELP CLOTHE THE NEEDY

Volunteers from the Hotel were in full force as they participated in numerous activites in late 2015 including:

• Parade of Trees - The Hotel was able to give the Highmark Caring Place a check for $11,549, which Highmark will match for a total of $23,188 for the organization that helps children and families deal with the loss of a loved one.

• Toys for Tots - The Radisson collected half a trailer of toys from empoyees and guests during the event.

• Salvation Army Red Kettle - Numerous employees manned the Red Kettles in addition to a silent auction during their Client Appreciation Wrapping Party. They were able to collect over $4,000 and came in third place in the Battle of the Bells. In all, the region’s efforts were able to dontate $48,000 for the cause.

Neida Galindo is our selection for HMC’s STAR Manager of the Quarter.

Neida began her career with the Fredericksburg Inn & Suites in June of 2011. In February of 2015, she tragically lost her husband in an automobile accident. Shortly after this misfortune, she thought it was in the best interest of her family to resign her position as Head Housekeeper.

After Neida’s departure, the Hotel struggled to find someone to fill her shoes. In August 2015, she felt like she was ready to return to work and resumed her responsibilities on September 1st. In record time, the housekeeping office and laundry room were once again organized and productive. From a profitability standpoint, she makes every effort to reclaim stained linens so they can keep their replacement purchases down and has her storeroom well organized so when preparing orders she makes purchases based on the hotel’s occupancy. Even though typically repairing the properties vacuums is a maintenance duty, she regularly repairs them herself. This not only saves maintenance time but also minimizes the new purchases the Hotel has to make. Currently the property is being renovated and she has helped coordinate the rooms being stripped and efficiently assisted in mattress removal with minimal labor costs.

Finally, she has a great team spirit. She works well with all departments and communicates with them very effectively, as well as creating a very cohesive team. We are proud of Neida and congratulate her on her award!

SHERATON HARRISBURG SUPPORTS SUSQUEHANNA SERVICE DOGS

The Hotel once again participated in the Chocolatefest (held annually in Hershey, PA) to benefit Keystone Human Services and Susquehanna Service Dogs.

Pictured are Sarah Hawyard, Samantha Brant, Jessica & Lacey Deimler, Katie Larson, Megan Stoner & Elzabeth Vazquez (Sheraton’s Baker who created chocolate peanut butter brownies for the event).

The Baymont Inn & Suites in Big Spring, TX is proud to announce that Mary Rodriguez is the STAR Associate of the Quarter.

Mary has been a dedicated employee with HMC by not only participating in the opening of the Baymont Inn & Suites, but prior to that, assisting in the opening of the Super 8 in Stanton, TX. There are many challenges to opening a new hotel and Mary has consistently stayed strong and dependendable through both hotel openings.

She also assists the Hotel by answering calls from the front desk concerning room issues at any time, day or night, and even on her days off. She is incredibly dedicated to her team and personally trains every new hire that starts in the department. In addition, she has assisted in controlling costs by having detailed knowledge of her houskeeeping budget and is always looking for ways to improve procedures and results.

Mary has also received numerous positive guest reviews and has had her name mentioned on Trip Advisory several times: “Awesome Hotel & Staff!! Housekeeping was amazing and gave me anything I requested...Ashlee & Mary were always smiling as they were doing their jobs.”

The Baymont’s staff and HMC recognizes that Mary’s contributions are truly the “glue to the housekeeping department.”
