    Introduction

Th philosophial disours o modrnit (PDM) is th rolutionar philo-

sophial disours, th hallmark o whih is th sl-dning sujt,3 that

aompanid th ris and onsolidation o th apitalist sstm rom its irth

in th sixtnth and sntnth nturis to its urrnt gloalizing phas.

It displad a philosophial disours in whih popl dnd thmsls

th ontingnt mattr o its origins, th PDM is not an intrinsiall Europan

or Eurontri phnomnon. It is th philosophial rftion o th gloal-

izing dnami o th apitalist mod o prodution whih otains at th llo th ral rgardlss o whih partiular ntrism holds swa in th rgions

al ommunit, who ar authorizd to st th latst ashions, this is likl to

hang whn th pintr o th world-sstm hangs.

Th onpt o modrnit or Bhaskar is losl ound up with th ph-
