Ellen IntroducesBack due to unprecedented demand, is the acoustic pop of Ellen and the Escapades, the band that stormed Glastonbury, becoming a favourite of the ultimate culture vulture, Lauren Laverne. Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis says they’re “better than Joni Mitchell”.

Guest Director - Dennis RollinsDennis has drawn on the many and varied influences that characterised his own personal musical journey. Griots t’ Garage - A Musical History of the African Diaspora is the centre-piece of his programming which also features jazz dance from Perry Louis, steel pan from Samuel Dubois, Afro-Brazilian percussion from Claudio Kron, and brass performances by YouTuba.

7pm SALON North: Science, Art, PsychologyThis summer an extremely rare celestial event took place, one, which underpins everything we understand about our place in the universe. Award winning writer and natural scientist Andrea Wulf is an expert on the transit of Venus, the path of the planet across the face of our sun, visible to the naked eye, which only happens every couple of centuries. Andrea will bring global scientific collaboration to life, one she describes as measuring the heavens.

Why do we laugh? What is its point exactly? Academic and laughter practitioners Geoff and Gill Lowe have spent their psychological careers explaining exactly way, and educating corporations and universities to understand laughter better. Finally, we are privileged to welcome the magic that is super sound recordist Chris Watson. If you have ever heard the sound of an animal putting tooth to flesh in any of the David Attenborough’s series it is our Chris who was there, literally placing his boom deep inside the leopard’s mouth. David Attenborough will work with no-one else, and Chris has built up, over many decades travelling a world class sound archive. From the tip of the Orkneys to the far west of the British Isles, Chris will be playing the sounds of our nation’s dawn in Salon’s very own nature disco. £12
