  • Around and About in Harbor Club...With Judy Stultz

Spring brought us an early Easter this year; once again Angela outdid herself planning the annual Harbor Club Childrens Easter Egg Hunt. HC children and grandchildren gathered at the Playground on Saturday afternoon (April 3rd.) to hunt colored eggs and baskets of toys. Our Harbor Club LGA made front page news (in living color) ~ right next to golf great Jack Nicklaus in the April 28th issue of The Breeze! Congratulations to Carol Gordon and Fran Schroeder for winning the LGA Member-Member on June 3rd. Not to be outdone, the HCMGA has been busy on the links with Annual Blue & Grey Tournament (the North was victorious this time round), the Memorial Day Tournament and the Fourth Annual Scholarship Tournament in June. Couples Golf is up and running ~ the nine-hole group plays on Fridays and the18-hole group plays on Sundays. It is a fun time for those who enjoy golfing with their mates. Travelers Alert! The Kendalls and Hamiltons cruised to Scandinavia and Russia, stopping off in London and then through the Chunnel to Paris along the way. The Ledyards are off again, this time to fascinating Turkey and Greece, cant wait to see their pictures. Earlier this year the Lofgrens traveled to the Orient with Singapore, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Vietnam among the places they visited. Festival Halls grand opening in Greensboro on May 1st brought many of our Harbor Club residents to town for the big event ~ either as patrons or volunteers. John Lithgow (of movie and TV fame), put on an entertaining and touching one man show recounting stories of his theater oriented childhood. Troutdale at the Clubhouse is the place to be on Tapas Night ~ as special drink prices and savory appetizers lure many of our HC residents. The once a month Ladies Night Out has become a ritual for many of our gals ~ a time to celebrate the birthdays of the month too! HC men also have a ~ Guys Night Out ~ featuring such events as a Scotch Tasting and a Texas Holdem Poker Tournament. Memorial Day weekend weather seemed just about perfect, only a few short showers between the sun and a bit of overcast skies ~ making a day on the water, the links or at the pool most pleasurable ~ until ~ late afternoon when the skies opened and deluged us with rain! The clouds parted and rain ceased as the Ladies of the Lake Book Club stepped from their cars to visit Flannery OConnors Andalusia, in Milledgeville. They were guided through the famed authors home place by a well informed and interesting docent who was able to give a personal insight to the writers private life. Later, the group lunched at Sylvias Restaurant while discussing their May selection, Flannery, by Brad Gooch. Continued on Next Page...

Introducing Troutdale to Harbor Club...Our HistoryIt all started at the well known Troutdale Dining Room in Bristol, Tennessee. The restaurant is located in a beautifully restored Victorian home. The house itself is rich in history. It was originally built by the Vance family of Bristol, and lost during the Civil War. The house was later returned to the Vances.

Ben Zandi, CEO of Troutdale Kitchens, purchased the Dining Room and did everything in his power to maintain the local connection to the restaurant while continuing a mission to improve and expand. His extensive experience in the corporate world of Mariott allowed Zandi to apply effective management techniques to make the five star restaurant an even bigger success year after year.

Realizing that there was more to be done in the industry, Troutdale Kitchens was born in order to fully realize the potential of the company. Expanding into advanced catering services and casual dining was the first order of business, but soon the TK approach was applied to nearby country clubs.

The company met with a great reception at a premier hotel in Norton, Virginia as Troutdale Kitchens completely turned around the operation to make it a very successful piece of the local economy and the TK repertoir.

Now, with the purchase and restoration of local downtown favorite Burger Bar and the management of the Harbor Club dining room, the sky is the limit as the enterprise moves ahead, applying long-
