Dear Friends of Warm Heart of Africa:

First off, I wanted to take this opportunity to wish you and your families the very best in

2013. Is at this time of year when we reflect on our many blessings from the year that

was and plan ahead for what promises to be an eventful 2013. It is an appropriate time to

say thank you for your support in 2012, and since the inception of Warm Hearts in 2006.

2012 was a year of some great achievements that I want to share with you.

The following events in 2012 raised over $47,000.

Holiday Inn Toronto on June 14. This was our 5th Annual Toronto event. We

partnered with Anne Rosner of Books With Wings which is an organization that

supports literacy in remote first nations communities. Warm Hearts split the

proceeds and raised $5500.

Vancouver’s Pizzeria Novo on September 24th. Our 6th Annual Vancouver event.

This was our first event at Carmine Paradiso’s new restaurant. The evening was

characterized by great food, a great vibe, and we raised over $8000. A special

word of thanks to family and friends who once again did all the work. Lynne

Steele, Wayne Steele, Marneaux Steele, Carmine Paradiso and many others.

Thank you.

The 7th Annual Kitchener-Waterloo Gala for Warm Hearts of Africa took place on

November 24th, 2012 and was held at The Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery in

uptown Waterloo and was a monumental success. This event has become our

largest and this year raised over $14000. Special thanks to the tireless efforts of

the KW committee of Dan Girard, Daniel Levine, Sonia Oliviera-Ryan, Eva

Lewis, and Alicia Cowan.

Lastly, we received a private $20000 donation to complete the financing of our St

Paul’s School project.

.

2012 saw Mike Gregson and Ingrid Hollander visit our Malawi projects in August. There

was substantial television news coverage of the work that we are doing there. We are

hoping to source the material and post it on our web site. We also had a nurse and

physician spend a month seeing patients and mentoring staff at the Nkhamenya Hospital.

As we shared with you last year, our 2012 goal was to raise the remaining funds to finish

our St Paul’s High School project. We are very pleased to report that we have raised well

over $60,000 towards the land purchase and school construction. As the funding is now

available, we are beginning phase 2 which is the actual school construction. The new St.

Paul’s Private Secondary School will educate 250 students in an impoverished area of

Blantyre, Malawi that has been heavily impacted by the HIV pandemic. Warm Hearts of

Africa also pays the fees of 50 students (25 boys, 25 girls) under the James Vatistas

Memorial Bursary Program (no administration fees have ever been taken by our

organization).

We are starting off 2013 with a new event planned by Roberta Halpenny. It is a Spinning

Fundraiser Event at Legacy Indoor Cycle at 1506 Danforth Ave., the afternoon of

Sunday, February 10th. More information will follow. You should also see a new fund-

raising video featuring some of the footage of Mike’s recent Malawi visit. We expect to

run events in Toronto, Vancouver, KW, and we hope, Montreal for 2013. Our work

continues.

Lastly a bit of background for those of you who have just learned of the work we do.

Warm Hearts of Africa is a charitable organization that raises funds to support the fight

against HIV/AIDS in Malawi through a variety of initiatives. Following our initial trip to

Africa in 2006 Michael Gregson and I were inspired to begin Warm Hearts of Africa

after seeing the urgent need for AIDS support and education in the impoverished country.

Warm Hearts of Africa is an Ontario registered Not For Profit Organization #1845877

under the umbrella of Kitchener-Conestoga Rotary Club’s International Aid Fund

(#801126822RR0001).

Please check our website to learn more about our organization, our events, or to make a

donation which will make a difference to those less fortunate in Malawi. What can you

do to help? Make a donation, attend our next fund-raiser. All donations are welcome as

are items for our silent auction. Tax receipts will be provided for all donations over $20.

Cheques can be made payable to WARM HEARTS OF AFRICA and on-line donations

can be made through PAYPAL on our web site. On behalf of the Warm Hearts Of Africa

fund-raising team, we thank you wholeheartedly for your support and contributions to

this fundraising work. Your support and participation will help to improve the lives of

those most in need in Malawi. Further information is available on our web site:
