Hansons Spring auction will include an interesting array of fine antiques consigned to sale from vendors throughout Derbyshire and neighbouring counties.

Highlights include a pair of Bavarian dueling pistols, inscribed Johann Christoph Kuchenreuter, dated for 1690, lead our weapons section and hope to fire off at between £8,000 - £12,000, property of a Staffordshire gentleman.

Elsewhere an early 20th century Meissen Monkey Band, complete with their receipt from 1968 will be music to our ears when they go under the hammer on Friday 28th.

A collection of silver and furniture, the former property Gwladys Stanley Laidler, brings a glamorous air to the sale, the former actress was well known in the 1920s for her pantomime performances.

Easter has come early in the form of two very delicious Fabergé St Petersburg Collection eggs, enamelled in red and blue, who could resist their iconic shape and exquisite work.

Denis Lord (June 14th 1926-April 18th 2013) During his early career Denis was a resident cartoonist with the Leicester Evening Mail, and contributed magazine illustrations and cartoon to various national publications. After his time with the Leicester Evening Mail, Denis worked for Disney Studios in London and became a background artist involves in several Disney films including ‘Snow White’ and ‘Bambi’. It was this experience which further promoted his interest into watercolour and oil painting. Denis became a full time artist in 1960. He had several galleries in London including the pres-tigious Mall Gallery. Various exhibitions, both in England and abroad, have enabled him to sell his paintings worldwide. Since 1979 his marine work had been represented by the Annapolis Marine Gallery and the Windjammer Gallery in Bermuda. Denis was a member of the Bermuda Society of Artists and has a painting in the Masterworks Collection on the Island.

769. A late Tudor English oak chest, of boarded construction, probably late 16th century, the front of frame and panel form with simple carved lozenges, the rails and stiles simply moulded, raised on stile feet, 82cm high, 100cm wide and 60cm deep.

Note: An ‘ark’ at the Victoria and Albert museum in London is similar in terms of style of construction and overall form, which is dated from 1550-1650. See museum number: ‘W.54-1950’.

Care is taken to ensure that any statements as to authorship, attribution, origin, date, age, provenance and condition are reliable and accurate, but all such statements are statements of opinion and are not to be taken as statements or representations of fact. Hansons reserve the right, in forming their opinion, to consult and rely upon any expert or authority reasonably considered by them to be reliable.

1. The BuyerThe highest bidder to be the buyer. If any dispute arises, the auctioneer shall have absolute discretion to settle it and to put any disputed lot up again for sale.

2. Buyer identificationBuyers are requested to furnish references in advance of the sale in order to avoid delay in clearing purchases. Goods will not be cleared until such references have been processed or cheques cleared. Hanson’s reserve the right not to approve any online bidder when their registration credit check is not successful and who cannot provide references. Hansons will not accept commission bids for any buyer that has an outstanding invoice.

3 . Buyer’s PremiumThe buyer shall pay the hammer price together with a buyer’s premium at the rate of 17.5% plus VAT. Please note that there is a minimum purchase charge of £5 plus VAT. Internet bidding incurs an additional 5% plus VAT charge.VAT is charged on Hanson’s services NOT on the goods and is payable at the standard rate set by the uK government.Any royalties eligible to be paid to a qualifying artist under the ‘Droit de Suite’ legislation will be added to the buyers invoice

4 PaymentImmediately on the fall of the hammer, all lots shall be at the sole risk and expense of the respective purchasersCredit/Debit card details entered onto The Saleroom.com are not used for payments, normal payment methods apply.Failure to pay for goods within eight weeks of the auction will result in the sale being rescinded. The defaulting buyer will also be blocked from bidding at future Hansons auctions.Methods of PaymentCash, debit card or direct bank payment. We also accept credit cards for total invoice values of less than £500. uK Debit cards incur no extra charge. All credit and international debit cards incur an additional 3% +VAT charge. Personnel cheques will only be accepted at the discretion of Hanson’s Accounts and on the understanding that NO goods will be released until bank clearance of the cheque has completed.

5. Collection / Shipment of GoodsAll goods must be paid for and collected within five working days following sale. If after ten working days the item has not been collected then a storage charge of £1 per lot per day will commence, the item will also no longer be insured. Hansons shall then contact the buyer in writing to confirm that this additional charge is now in place and further to that if paid for item(s) are still not collected within another 3 weeks of the date on the letter, the items will be placed back into the next auction without reserve with the buyer becoming the vendor. All Hansons terms and conditions will now apply to the new vendor of this item. A cheque will be sent out 20 working days after the sale, this will be minus our saleroom and storage charges.

6. Postal ServiceHansons Auctioneers do offer a postal service for clients within the UK who are not able to attend the auction or unable to collect. We are not professional packers or shippers, though will try our upmost to pack items in a correct way which will ensure items arrive safely, however Hansons Auctioneers will not be held responsible for making any claim. There are some items that due to their nature, size or weight we cannot post out, though we can recommend couriers who you can arrange to pick the item up from our saleroom, they will also be able to insure some items which we are unable to insure. For full details see ‘Postage of items’ under ‘Our Services’ on the Hansons website.All buyers / couriers must check their purchases prior to departure from the auction. Hansons will accept no claims for loss or damage thereafter.

7. Third Party LiabilityEvery person at Hansons Auctions shall be deemed to be there at his own risk. They shall have no claim against Hansons in respect to any accident which may occur or injury, damage or loss howsoever caused.

8. Rights of AdmissionThe right is reserved to refuse admission to the auction premises and may be used by Hansons without giving a reason.

9. Selling RateLots are sold at approximately 100 lots per hour for the general antique and collector’s sales. Fine art auctions with online bidding are reduced to approximately 60 lots per hour.
