1.6 Important Notes

This symbol draws your attention to special safety notes and warnings. If such notes are not observed, personal injury and / or considerable damage to property can occur. RWR470.10 controller may only be used for the control and supervision of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and chiller plant. Prerequisites for flawless and safe operation of RWR470.10 controller are proper transport, installation, commissioning, and correct operation. Fuses, switches, wiring and earthing must be in compliance with local safety regulations for electrical installations. Preparation for use of commission of RWR470.10 controller must be undertaken by qualified staff who have been appropriately trained by Siemens Building Technologies. RWR470.10 controller may only be operated by staffs who have been instructed by Siemens Building Technologies or their delegates and whose attention has been drawn to potential risks. When wiring the system, the AC 240V section must be strictly segregated from the AC 24V safety extra low-voltage (SELV) section in order to ensure protection against electric shock hazard!! For storage and transport, the limit values given in the relevant Datasheet must be always be observed. System sections accommodated in the control panel should be freed from dust and dirt whenever normal service visits are due. Should system faults occur and you are not authorized to make diagnostics and to rectify faults, call your service staff of Siemens Building Technologies. Only authorized staffs are permitted to make diagnostics, to rectify faults and to restart the plant. This also applies to work carried out within the control panel (e.g. safety checks or changing fuses). The products contain electrical and electronic components and may not be disposed of as household waste. Local and currently legislation must be complied with!

2 Operation

2.1 LCD Display

Operation of RWR470.10 is fully driven by buttons and menus.

Parameters listed under the menu vary with the password privileged user. Before accessing the Parameter menu, select the user group (“ENd” or “PWd”) first and input the corresponding password that is required only for the “PWd” group user (service men and factory users). See also <Chapter 10.2 Accessing the Parameter Menu> On the right lower side, nine icons are used to indicate system modes and status.

Normal readouts

If the system (air-to-water) runs properly, the LCD, by default, displays with measured return temperature on the upper part and the actual supply air/water temperature on the lower part.

Warning When a warning is detected, the warning code

and the Warning icon will simultaneously flash.

Alarm When an alarm is detected, the alarm icon,

relevant devices (if applicable) and alarm code will flash simultaneously on the LCD.

Stop mode If the system is shut down from Stop mode, after power on, the Stop mode will be restored. Press <Esc> to release the system from Stop mode.

View/Query inputs

3.2 Overview of DIP Switch Configuration

The analogue inputs can be configured for the more common sensors on the market: NTC, 0…10V and 4…20 mA.. For the power supply to the active sensors, the terminals for +5V or +24VDC are offered. At the rear top of the controller, two sets of DIP switches are presented as follows.

The different types of sensors can be selected using the corresponding DIP Switches below. Bit 1 of J2 is used for factory calibration

All analogue inputs can be configured as digital inputs. When this happens, please configure the corresponding software program and set the DIP switches positions same as that of NTC.

3.3 Wiring with Power Supply

RWR470.10 is supplied with 24 VAC ± 20 % or 24 VDC ± 10 % via plug-in terminals G and G0

3.4 Wiring with Digital Inputs

RWR470.10 offers five digital inputs for connecting safety devices, alarms, device status, and remote switches. These digital inputs are voltage free. The following figure represents an example of wiring the digital input

3.5 Wiring with Passive Temperature Sensors

Before wiring with passive sensor, pay attention to the following: • By default, terminals X1…X6 can be wired with NTC sensor. • In addition, terminals X2 and X5 can be wired with NI1000 sensor if the

corresponding DIP switches are configured as follows.

3.6 Wiring with Pressure Sensors

Before wiring with pressure sensors, please refer to their datasheets for appropriate wiring connection diagrams.

3.6.1 Pressure Sensor with DC 0…10 V Output

X1, X3 and X4 can be wired with a pressure sensor with DC 0…10 V output if the corresponding DIP switches are configured as follows.

The follow is a wiring example with QBE9101-P10U/30U/P60U pressure sensor.

3.6.3 Pressure Sensor with DC 0…5 V Output

X1, X3 and X4 can be wired with ratiometric active sensor with 0…5 V output. For some active sensor with 0…5 V supply voltage, wire with the terminal +5 V.

When wiring with the sensor with 0…5 V output signal, the relevant DIP switches must be set on the OFF positions.

4 General Device Settings

4.1 Modes of Operation

The current RWR470.10 controller consists of three kinds of operation modes:

Mode Function

1 Normal working mode Display all running devices and measured values 2 Menu mode* View configured analog inputs, warning and alarm logs

Set/adjust parameter values and also user privilege to parameters

3 Stop mode** Normally shut-down status (all units stop running.)

*To enter menu mode, see also <Chapter 4.2. Accessing the Menus>. ** To enter stop mode, see also <Chapter 4.3. Starting and Stopping the Device> • In normal working mode, the back light will be timed out after 15 seconds without any

operation. • Leaving the Menu mode without any operation for over 5 minutes, the system will

automatically return to the normal working mode or Stop mode. • Factory users can configure application at any time, but it is strongly recommended

to perform configuration in Stop mode. • Only in Stop mode, factory users can do commissioning.

4.2 Accessing the Menus

Display Procedures

In normal working mode (or Stop mode), press the <Enter> button for 2 seconds and release it to enter the Menu mode. By default, the Query icon is blinking, waiting for further instructions.

To view all configured inputs and outputs: • Continuously press <Enter> to proceed when the icon is flashing. To view the latest 10 warnings generated: • Navigate to the menu by pressing <Plus> or <Minus>, and then press <Enter>

4.3 Starting and Stopping the Device

Applying power to the controller, if all parameters are configured in advance, the normal working mode (air-to-water) will be displayed with measured values. If the system is shut down from Stop mode, after power on, the Stop mode will be restored. Press <Esc> and release it to start the system and return to the normal working mode. Initially applying power to the controller, the default status of the controller is Stop mode.

Display Procedures

When the controller is running in normal working mode, press <Esc> and release it. The word “OK” will be displayed on the left side of the LCD, asking for confirmation.

Press <Enter> to confirm, and all related devices will stop working upon the expiry of their delay time. Finally, the Stop mode will be displayed as follows.

The icon will flash when the pump down function (if configured) is under process.

During this process, pressing <Esc> and releasing it again will activate the system from Stop mode, and return back to the normal working mode.

4.4 Selection of System Modes

Display Procedures

Press down the <Plus> button for more than 2 seconds, and release it to activate the selection of system mode. The currently system mode will start flashing. Press <Plus> or <Minus> to select the desired system mode, and then press<Enter > to confirm.

The selection sequence of system modes varies with the <Plus> or <Minus> button you selected based on the current system mode (SF01). The corresponding icon(s) for system mode will blink once selected.

Only authorized staffs can access the “IO” parameter group categorized under the menu and configure analog inputs. It is recommended to configure all the parameters and values in Stop Mode of the controller. When connecting the devices with the terminals(X1…X6) for analogue inputs, please configure all relevant parameters to make sure that sensors can work properly. 9.1 Uploading Application and Parameters to PolyStick

During the application (with parameters) uploading process, it is forbidden to power off the controller. (See also Chapter 15.10. System Functions)

Display Procedures In Stop Mode, plug PolyStick into RJ45 service interface.

Then, go to _ , navigate to the parameter FN03, and set FN03 as “ON.” Wait while the green LED is continuously blinking, indicating the data communication process. Once finished, the green LED will be fixed.

If successful, FN03 will be automatically set as “OFF.”

If failed, the word “FAIL” will be displayed.

9.2 Downloading Application and Parameters from PolyStick

To download application and parameters from PolyStick to the controller, follow steps below: • Power off the controller • Plug PolyStick into RJ45 service interface • Re-apply power to the controller • Wait while the green LED is continuously blinking, indicating the data communication

process • Once finished, the controller will be set in Stop mode, and the green LED fixed • Un-plug the PolyStick • Press <Esc> to activate the system from Stop mode

By default, only Service Men and Factory Users can adjust the units of temperature and pressure.

Display Procedures In normal working mode, press <Enter> for 2 seconds and release it to enter the Menu mode.

Enter into the menu and select “PWd” group. Input the password and press <Enter>. Navigate to UI _ UI03, and press <Enter> to confirm. By default, the unit of temperature is ºC (when UI03=1).

To set the unit of temperature as ºF, set UI03 = 0, and press <Enter> to confirm.

Follow the same way to set the unit of pressure by navigating to the menu _ UI _ UI04, and setting the value of UI04, as appropriate.

11 Commissioning

It is recommended to perform commissioning in Stop mode. By default, only factory users can do commissioning.

Display Procedures

In Stop mode, go to _ , and navigate to the parameter FN06. By default, the value of FN06 reads “OFF.”

To start commissioning, set the value of FN06 as ON, and press <Enter> to confirm.

Pressing any button will enable this system to exit out of this commissioning mode, and automatically set the value of FN06 as OFF. However, all replay outputs are not deenergized. To do this, re-enter the Menu mode, manually set the value of FN06 as OFF.

12 Warning Management

When a warning is detected, the corresponding warning code will be displayed on the

LCD. The warning icon will flash simultaneously. Only the latest 10 warnings will be kept under the menu. Upon power failure of the controller, the warning logs will be erased and recounted

12.1 Codes for Warnings

Two letters “WN” will be displayed on the LCD, continuously flashing. Press <Enter> again to view the last 10 warning codes generated, if any. If no warning is generated, the word “NoNE” will be displayed.

13 Alarm Management

Alarms in PolyCool470.10 are divided into two groups: auto reset alarms and manual reset alarms. • For an auto reset alarm, users are not required to acknowledge and reset it. The

corresponding device will be automatically restarted once the alarm status disappears.

• Once a manual reset alarm is detected, the system will be stopped. Users need acknowledge and reset it, and also manually restart the corresponding device after the fault status is cleared.

When an alarm is detected, the corresponding device icon (if any) and the icon will continuously flash. An alarm code will be displayed on the screen. • If more than one alarm is detected, the alarm codes will be displayed successively

on the LCD screen until the alarm status disappears, or until they are manually acknowledged or reset (only for manual reset alarms).

• If the system detects warnings and alarms at the same time, the warning codes will NOT be displayed on the LCD.

13.3 Viewing Alarm Logs

Display Procedures Press down <Enter> for 2 seconds, and release it to activate the Menu mode.

Press <Plus> or <Minus> to navigate to the menu, and then press <Enter> to confirm.

By default, auto reset alarm “AR” will be displayed on the LCD, flashing.

To view auto reset alarms generated, press <Enter> to continue when “AR” is displayed. To view manual reset alarms, press<Minus> or <Plus> to navigate to the “MR” group, and then press <Enter> to continue. By default, the first manual reset alarm “MR01” will be displayed as follows. Press <Enter> to view the first manual reset alarm code. Or, press<Minus> or <Plus> to view other numbered alarms, and press<Enter> to view the specific code.

If no alarm is generated, the word “NoNE” will be displayed.

Continuously press <Exit> to exit out of the current level, and back to the normal running mode.

MR01 and AR01 are respectively the latest information of manual reset alarm and auto reset alarm.

13.4 Acknowledging and Resetting Manual Reset Alarms

Any alarm detected by the system, either an auto reset alarm or a manual reset alarm, will be displayed on the LCD. However, only manual reset alarms require user’s acknowledgement and reset. To do this, follow the steps below: • Press <Enter> to acknowledge the alarm.

• If the alarm status is cleared, the corresponding device icon and alarm icon that are flashing will accordingly disappear.

• Restart the system, as appropriate.

14.2 Defrost Control

In heating mode, press the <Minus> button for 2 seconds to start manual defrost if all related parameters are configured. Automatic defrost can only be started when all relevant parameters, such as defrost method and logic, are configured, and the system and the compressor has been running for certain period (DF17 and DF18). Defrost logic with their descriptions are as follows: • Defrost with timer (when DF04=0): the delay time between two defrost requests is

equal to or greater than the preset time (DF11). • Defrost with timer and temperature/pressure (when DF04=1): the referred

temperature (via DF05) remains less than or equal to the defrost start point (DF06) after the delay time (DF08).

• Defrost with the differential value between defrost temperature and outside temperature (when DF04=2): the measured outside temperature is less than the preset setpoint (DF16), and the actual differential value between defrost temperature (via DF05) and outside temperature (?) is equal to or greater than the setpoint (DF15) after the delay time (DF08).

When one of the defrost conditions above is reached, the system will start defrost based on the defrost method you configured: • Fan defrost (DF02=1) • Hot gas bypass (DF04=0) • Reversing valve (DF04=1) First apply the method of fan defrost if it is enabled and if the actual outside temperature is equal to or greater than the preset point (DF14). Otherwise, apply one the other two methods (DF04=0, 1).

The defrost process, either automatic or manual, will stop when either of the following conditions is reached: • The referred temperature (via DF05) is greater than the end point (DF07) and the

defrost process lasts for DF09. • Or, the defrost process lasts for DF10. Each of the defrost processes above will end after the preset minimum duration (DF09) if it is manually stopped. At the end of defrost, the fan will be activated at maximum speed to ventilate the condenser for the preset time (DF13). Except for manual defrost, the delay between two automatic defrost processes must meet the preset delay time (DF11).

14.3 Energy Savings and Comfort Conditions

In RWR470.10, two methods of energy savings are provided: • The controller temperature setpoints are automatically compensated according to

outside temperature (herein called Economic Cooling/Heating Function). • Fixed shifts of controller setpoints (herein called Economy Mode)

14.3.1 Economic Cooling/Heating Function

When the system works in Economic Cooling/Heating Function (enabled when SF05=1), the system will automatically adjust the controller setpoints according to the outside temperature. This adjustment can save energy and create comfort conditions as the outside conditions vary. The controller setpoint(s), ST01 for cooling mode and ST02 for heating mode, will be automatically adjusted according to the actual outside temperature. In cooling mode, necessary parameter settings are as follows: • Controller setpoint (ST01) – the setpoint that the system should arrive in normal

working mode • Controller setpoint shift value (ST10) – the range of controller temperature setpoint

shift • Outside temperature setpoint (ST08) – the outside temperature setpoint to start the

energy saving program (if configured ) • Outside temperature shift value (ST09) – the range of outside temperature setpoint

14.3.2 Economy Mode

When Economy Mode is configured (when SF06=1), the system will run in the newer setpoints (ST06 / ST07) instead of the previous ones (ST01/ST02) once this mode is activated via a digital input or menu-driven operation.

Once the Economy Mode is running, the symbol “ ” will be lighted. Economy Mode will be automatically set to OFF upon power failure. Applying power to the controller again needs to re-activate the Economy Mode.

14.4 Antifreeze

(Currently, the system refers to the air-to-water application) To activate the antifreeze function, the following prerequisites must be reached: • The controller remains in Stop Mode (power ON yet). • Antifreeze function (SF04) is enabled. • Sensor for outside temperature is configured (CN09=1) Under the conditions above, when the actual supply temperature or return temperature (determined via SF07) is equal to or less than the differential value between antifreeze setpoint and temperature band (SF11 – SF12), and the actual outside temperature (via CN09) is lower than the setpoint (SF13), the pump will be switched on, and a warning (code: WN02) will be displayed on the LCD, flashing continuously. In the meantime, if the feedback signal of flow switch (digital input) from pump ON (only when EV01=0 or 1) is okay within the preset time (AL08), the antifreeze process will be activated. Otherwise, an alarm (code: AL34) will display. Only after the supply temperature/return temperature is greater than the antifreeze setpoint (SF11), the E-heater (If configured) will be stopped, and the pump will be switched off after the delay (CM07).

14.5 Forced Adjustment Management

Forced Adjustment Management is only applicable for the cooling mode of the system. This function is to adjust the condensing pressure/temperature by reducing compressor stages. The Forced Adjustment Management, if configured (SF02) and activated, has priority over the control of compressor capacity stages. That is, if all conditions for Forced Adjustment Management are reached, the system will apply the control logic of Forced Adjustment Management only. Once the actual condensing pressure / temperature (determined via CN08) is equal to or greater than the pressure/ temperature setpoint (CN03/CN02), but less than the pressure / temperature setpoint for alarm (CN05/CN04), the system will start adjusting the condenser pressure/temperature by the following methods: • First reducing the compressor stage from Stage 3/ Stage 4 to Stage 2, if applicable; • Or, reducing the compressor stage to Stage 1 after the delay time (SF08), if the

current stage is Stage 2; • If the actual pressure/temperature falls down to the differential value between

setpoints for alarm and pressure/temperature band for alarm (CN05–CN07/CN04 –CN06), the Forced Adjustment Management will be stopped.

• Or, an auto reset alarm (alarm code: AL00) will be generated after the delay time (SF09) if all methods utilized failed to reduce the condensing pressure /temperature down to the differential value between setpoint for alarm and pressure/temperature band for alarm (CN05-CN07 / CN04-CN06).

• If the actual condensing pressure/temperature is equal to /greater than the pressure /temperature setpoint for alarm (CN05/CN04), the Forced Adjustment Management

will be skipped over, and an auto reset alarm (alarm code: AL00) will be displayed directly without any delay.

A warning (code: WN10) will be displayed when the actual condensing pressure is greater than the start point for Forced Adjustment Management, but less than the setpoint for alarm.

14.6 Pump Down

The Pump Down function can only take effect in the cooling only or heating only system. The Pump Down function is to drive almost all refrigerant into the condenser before turning off the compressor. It protects the compressor from sucking the liquid refrigerant. To make this function work, you need activate this function (via SF03) and configure all relevant parameters. If the system is stopped from normal working mode, the SV will be first closed, and the compressor will continue working until the preset delay time (SF10) expires. When the pump down process is performed during the system stopping process, the

icon will flash continuously until the pump down process is finished. Except for low pressure alarm, if any other alarm is detected and displayed on the LCD in the pump down process, the system will return to the normal working mode after the alarm is reset. Pump down will not be performed either in the defrost process or under the situation that any alarm except for low pressure is existent.
