Organized the Hadelandslaget in 1910 with 12 other Hadelanders at the Minnesota State Fair. Was elected President in 1911 and have been reelected every year since. On my way to the United States from Norway I lost my hat on the trip between Chicago and Hudson (WI) and came thus to Hudson with a bare head and only 25 cents in my pocket. I had no friends or relatives (in America) except my brother who lived in Black Brook, Polk County. I had little or no education in Norwegian and I didn't understand a single word in English.
