In 1940 the Romanian Iron Guard place a spell from the ‘Zmeu’ upon a golden Luger handgun - a gift to them from Himmler of the SS.

Year's later in modern day Bucharest, Loredana Anescu finds the gun among her dying Grandfather's possessions. Long awaiting its re-emergence is Damian Lupescu, owner of Archangel International Media, who invented a way of unleashing the power bestowed in the gun to channel it through modern technology, fulfilling his dream of restoring fascism and bringing the return of the 4th Reich.

Knowing nothing of its dark and mystical past, Loredana unwittingly gives the Luger to Irishman Axel

O'Rourke, a Nightclub owner who runs a cigarette smuggling operation from Bucharest to London. Lupescu learns that Loredana has found the Luger and goes after her to get it, she escapes with Axel into the country. Lupescu's henchmen catch up with them, taking Loredana and the Luger, leaving Axel for dead. On learning the legend of the Luger, Axel is urged to follow Lupescu to destroy it. Back in London Axel tracks down Lupescu to put and end to his fanatical plan. Evil… never ends

This Brit flick isn’t your usual biker movie, with it’s slick su-percars, fast motorbikes and even faster women wrapped up in a glossy plot of old Nazis taking over the world, we’re hooked in even before getting down to the spectacu-lar bike race scenes. The Ace Cafe makes a fantastic back-drop for the brilliantly shot duel of the V Rod and GSXR with stoppie champ Craig Jones pulling off the daring stunts, rewarded for his brave efforts with a cameo role in the film.

Produced by long time Harley Davidson rider and fan, Gary Douglas with him pulling off the classic Roger Corman trick of casting himself in the lead (keeps the budget down and puts the producer on set every day). Gary has also been very shrewd in his cast-ing of Ian Wright, the ex foot-baller and TV presenter, as Duke, a role he carries off surprisingly well and is clearly leagues ahead of Vinnie Jones in the acting stakes.

The Cormanesque eye candy is also all present and correct with the gorgeous Mihaella Sinca playing the lust interest Loredana and Kristina Ce-praga who camps up her role as the Ferrari 512 wielding dominatrix Ms Kitty to dream wetting perfection. We can’t finish without a special men-tion for Hollywood veteran Richard Lynch who provides the unforgettable face for the film’s classic ‘baddie’ Damian Lupescu.

And if bikes, swords, Ian Wright (yes the formal Arsenal footballer), fast women, guns and dodgy deals are your thing it’d be worth getting yourself a crate of beers, some mates and enjoying the fast paced action and intrigue.

a new ‘film’ starring Ian Wright, called Gun of the Black Sun. Well, we’ve finally seen it and erm, umm --you’re not watching a classic.OR MAYBE YOU ARE.Gun of the Black Sun is about a magic luger handgun that has connections with Nazis and therefore by default -- drag-ons or some shit.  Basically, there’s this Irish bloke who travels to Romania with his mates, meets a waitress and falls in love with her . Then it’s back to Romania for a bit of motorcycle riding and banging music before it really gets going when some mental old bloke, whose Grandfather was a Nazi or something, throws some turd at a fan and a bit of it flies off and hits the Irish bloke -- so now he’s all caught up in the magical gun business.  This mental old bloke and his sexy (also mental) assistant want to put the gun in some weird device so that electricity can fly out of it and summon some special effects from Hell and destroy the whole world. I think.  I’m not quite sure.  Actually, I haven’t the faintest.  Not even the tiniest, microscopic essence of an idea of what the fuck went on, but whatever -- DRAGONS!It’s such a strange little film and we’re not quite sure why Ian Wright was drawn to it -- there are no big names involved, it clearly doesn’t have the biggest of budgets, and he didn’t even get to go to Romania (all his scenes are in London).  As odd as it was, I think it would be a shame to let Gun of the Black Sun pass by unnoticed.  It’s a curio, that’s for sure, and in fact, it’s got quite a lot to recommend it, including but not limited to:& 1Ian Wright 2Tits 3Harley-Davidsons 4Car chases 5Extremely good music& 6Fantastic line delivery& 7Lads engaging in BANTER& 8Explosions& 9Realistic ‘flirting’& 10Gun fights 11Priests hitting each other over the head& 12A sword versus satellite dish fight& 13 DRAGONS

For a film of pretty meagre resources, Gun of the Black Sun is, as the above synopsis suggests, pretty densely plotted. Lead actor Gary Douglas is also credited as writer and producer and although he seems to be trying to keep too many plates spinning, it is laudable to see so much thought given to the story, which although a little far-fetched, has at least been thought through and researched. Perhaps the problem though is the clash of tones and styles, with initial scenes revolving around cigarette smuggling, UK biker culture and pubs and clubs giving way to something altogether more fantastical by the end, which feels like part Highlander, part End of Days, part supernatural horror/

thriller. Gun of the Black Sun The story's  imaginative and well paced. The locations are amazing! I don't know if you're getting this in your feedback but Ian Wright is spectacular -he fills the screen with a presence that suggests that he's a veteran of such things. I co-wrote a book some years back called "Your Face Here - British Cult Movies Since the 1960s" where I explored the some-what meagre canon of British cult movies. To me, this film has all the  qualities to ensure its success -(especially the Nazi/Occult connection) , it deserves to succeed and given cult film's lon-

A great new British Biker flick shot around the Ace Cafe in North London and on the glorious sweeping open roads of Romania. Gun is the kind of movie that Tarantino relishes. Fast bikes, fast cars and even faster women wrapped up in a deliciously bonkers, tongue firmly in cheek, plot of ex Nazis trying to take over the world using supernatural hokum harnessed from an old Luger and channelled through your mobile and iPod. Starring the producer and writer Gary Douglas, and TV footie pundit and Harley aficionado Ian Wright as a pair of bike n babe loving likely lad cigarette smugglers, Gun delivers raunchy sex, stylised violence and some of the best real world biking action ever seen in a low budget Brit schlocker. This is the only movie in the world where you will see a V Rod whup a GSXR 600 in a stunt fuelled race along the pavements and side streets around the Ace Cafe in a scene shot very much for real with no CGI, wires or stunt doubles. Like all good classic exploitation movies Gun isn’t shy about hitting out with a bit of character development and a moral message but never let’s that get in the way of violent mayhem, car n bike chases and some good old fashioned eye candy in the form of Romanian

supermodel Mihaela Sinca as the lust interest Loredana and Kristina Cepreaga who camps up her role as the Ferrari 512 wielding dominatrix Ms Kitty to dream wetting perfection. Black Sun is that very rare thing, a low budget British movie that is comfortable with what it is. Black Sun delivers so bang on the exploitation / action genre button that we don't care that it wears its low budget with pride and doesn’t have Jason Statham as its star. Black Sun is already heading for cult fandom so grab this one, and possibly only, chance to see it on the big screen. (Approx running time 90mins)

NAZISM AND THE MYTH OF THE "MASTER-RACE"

Heinrich Himmler, head of the SS, was the chief driving force in developing the nationalist and racist myths advanced by the Nazis.When Himmler joined the Nazi Party in 1925, he was already a member of the Thule society, which believed in the greatness of German history, reaching back to the year 9AD, when the Teutonic tribes defeated the Roman army. It promoted the superiority of the Aryan race, an ancient northern European people.These ideas formed the basis of Nazi racial philosophy that was to have such an impact on history.When the Nazi Party took power, Himmler sought to create an Aryan knighthood in the shape of the SS.Originally founded as Hitler's bodyguards, the SS had grown rapidly. By 1939, it was 300,000 strong. Its members would run the concentration camps and take charge of the deportations of Jews. It became the standard bearer of “racial purity” within Germany and in the campaign directed especially against the peoples in the East.The centre of this new order of knights, an "aristocracy of soul and blood", was the Wewelsburg castle. This was Himmler's “Camelot”, with SS commanders cast as the Knights of the Round Table. Rooms were dedicated to figures of Nordic history and mythology like King

Arthur. Himmler's room was dedicated to King Heinrich I, founder of the first German Reich (empire). Himmler believed himself to be the reincarnation of Heinrich the Fowler. Another room was set aside to

house the Holy Grail, which was to be searched for all over the world. Himmler's goal was to "create a focus point of all the aspirations he had towards religion, towards science, forming a new policy. 

To this end, Himmler set out to re-establish an ancient Aryan religion within Germany in opposition to Christianity, as a basis for Nazi ideology. Himmler maintained that many sacred symbols had been stolen from a more ancient Aryan

religion and set out to restore them. One such symbol was the Holy Grail. One leading academic recruited to the Nazi cause was Otto Rahn, the leading German authority on the Holy Grail. He was brought into the SS to lead the search for it the world over. Himmler saw the potential of archaeology as a political tool. He needed archaeology to provide an identity for his SS. But Himmler also believed that archaeology had a certain pseudo-religious content. There were

excavations; there were myths and legends, a feeling of superiority. They believed by drawing on the power of prehistory they would achieve success in the present day.

THE AHNENERBEIn January 1939, the Ahnenerbe was incorporated into the SS as one of its branches,

and its leaders absorbed into Himmler's personal staff. At that time it had fifty branches under the direction of Professor Wurst, an expert on ancient sacred texts who had taught Sanskrit at Munich University. The mission assigned to the Ahnenerbe was to locate the origins of the "Nordic" race which, according to Nazi lore, was of Aryan stock.

But the Ahnenerbe's multiple branches dealt with a more broad spectrum of activities. These activities ranged from strictly "scientific" research --like vivisection practiced on prisoners-- to espionage, as well as the study and practice of

occultism.According to the scant information available about the Ahnenerbe --its huge archives mysteriously disappeared after the war-- it seems that Germany spent more money and devoted more resources on the Ahnenerbe than America did on the atomic bomb. More than fifty departments in this branch of the SS succeeded in spending over a million marks on such "scientific" research.

ROMANIA IS STEEPED IN HISTORY - MOSTLY FORGOTTEN UNDER COMMUNISM

We wanted to show Romania in a positive way it’s beauty, culture and history and not the cliched poor Communist 2nd rate Eastern european country. We are the one of the few film to actually to use the locations to be actually set on the coast in Romania(all scenes of Luger are location based ) Constanta is located in a region of Romania called Dobrogea which is the land between the Danube River to the west and Black Sea to the east. The history of the city goes back to 657 BC when it was the Greek controlled town of Tomis. Legend has it that Jason landed here with the Argonauts after finding the Golden Fleece. When Romania became a Province of the Roman Empire in 106 AD the Romans later renamed the city after emperor Constantine who fortified and developed the city from 320 - 350 AD. The city was later destroyed in the 8th century by invading Slavs and Avars and then fell under Byzantine control. In 1418 the Turks had there turn at the region until the mid 1800s when the national state of Romania was created in 1862. Constanta was taken by

Romania in 1877 after the Romanian War of Independence.Fine mansions and hotels were built in the 19th century when King Carol I decided to revive Constanta as a port and seaside resort in the style of Monte Carlo . The trendy beach resort of Mamaia situated mediately north-east of Constanta.

Originally founded by Corneliu Zelea Codreanu on July 24, 1927 as the Legion of the Archangel Michael (Legiunea Arhanghelul Mihail), and led by him until his death in 1938, adherents to the movement continued to be widely referred to as "legionnaires" (sometimes "legionaries"; Romanian: legionarii) and the organization as the "Legion" or the "Legionary Movement" (Mişcarea Legionară), despite various changes of the (intermittently banned) organization's name. In March 1930 Codreanu formed the "Iron Guard" (Garda de Fier) as a paramilitary political branch of the Legion; this name eventually came to refer to the Legion itself. Later, in June 1935, the Legion changed its official name to the Totul pentru Ţară party, literally "Everything for the Country", but commonly translated as "Everything for the Fatherland" 1938 Horia Sima visits Himmler at Wewelsburg believed to be given a Ceremonial Luger. 1940 Romania under Horia Sima (head of the Iron Guard supported by Himmler+S.S.) and General Ion Antonescu joined

the Axis forces in January 1940 the Iron Guard attempted a coup combined with a pogrom against the Jews of Bucharest Antonsecu aided by Hitler(worried by the instability and frightened of disruption to his oil supplies) destroyed the Iron Guard. Many fled to Germany and joined the S.S and fought brutally at the Russian front. The massive Romanian army the biggest Axis army next to the Germans was defeated at the battle of Stalingrad. Horia fled to Germany after the war escaped to Francoist Spain where died in Madrid in 1995

Sometimes compared to other fantastic creatures, such as the balaur or the vârcolac, the zmeu is nevertheless distinct, because it usually has clear anthropomorphic traits: it is humanoid and has legs, arms, the ability to create and use artifacts such as weapons. Zmeu appears in the sky and spits fire. Its natural form is that of a dragon.
