Allen Marine Tours Inc. – Juneau, Alaska

Guest ServiceThe Guest Service crew member hosts our guests while aboard. Engaging with guests, food and beverage service, assisting guests with purchases, participating in our retail program which focuses on locally made gifts and goods, keeping the vessel clean and inviting is how our Guest Service crew members spend most of their days. The Guest Service crew member is an ambassador of True Alaskan Hospitality; providing a warm, welcoming atmosphere to our international visitors, on a wide variety of tours. Other duties as assigned.

DeckhandWorking as the assistant to the Captain, the Deckhand inspects vessel equipment and performs routine, basic maintenance daily. An active position for those who enjoy being a “jack of all trades.” Working on deck tying lines, checking engines, maintaining the cleanliness of the vessel and being a host to guests aboard are all daily duties for our Deckhands. Our Deckhands also assist with galley service and participate in our retail program which focuses on locally made gifts and goods. Other duties as assigned.

NaturalistAs an interpretive Naturalist with Allen Marine, your goal is to help our guests create a connection with the surrounding wilds of Alaska. Wildlife, fisheries, botany, geology, forestry, glaciology, oceanography, history and current events are all subjects that an effective Naturalist can communicate to a diverse audience. Our Naturalists craft the tour narration around what is being seen on each tour, and the unique group of guests you’ll have on each tour. As the face and voice of the tour, you’ll spend most of your day interacting with guests on and off the microphone; answering questions one-on-one, assisting with galley service, and participating in our retail program which focuses on locally made gifts and goods. Although providing the tour narration is a large part of the job, our Naturalists are also deckhands; you’ll be out on deck tying lines, assisting in the daily operations of the vessel, and maintaining the highest standards of safety and cleanliness. Other duties as assigned.

Administrative Assistant – Reservations and ShuttleThe administrative assistant position combines clerical skills, independent tour sales, guest service and

shuttle driving. You will be responsible for answering the toll free reservation line, responding to email inquiries, taking reservations, and redirecting guests on the phone and in person at our office. This position assists with documentation of new employees, pre-season support materials, distributing uniforms and filing documents. Admin assistants work with our downtown sales team and our operations team to coordinate independent sales. You will drive a 12 passenger van with guests from downtown Juneau to our dock in Auke Bay. Admin assistants also run errands including post office, bank runs, refueling vehicles, etc. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. All team members share the daily responsibly of maintaining and cleaning the office and shuttle vehicles. Other duties as assigned. This position is shore-based.

Administrative Assistant - Accounting

This position counts down and resets between 10-18 tills per day. You will prepare daily deposits and change orders. Accounting assistant completes daily sales report and retail tracking and distributes this information to management. You will work with the boat crews for POS tech support and assist in reconciling accounting discrepancies. Admin assistant - accounting is backup for answering phones and taking reservations. This position assists with documentation of new employees, pre-season support materials, distributing uniforms and filing documents. Admin assistants work with our downtown sales team and our operations office to help coordinate independent sales. This position ocassionally drives a 10-12 passenger van with guests from downtown Juneau to our dock in Auke Bay. Admin assistants also run errands including post office, bank runs, refueling vehicles, etc. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. All members share the daily responsibly of maintaining and cleaning the office and shuttle vehicles. Other duties as assigned. This position is shore-based.

Tour Representative: Directs and assists guests in boarding coaches as they disembark their cruise ship in downtown Juneau. Tour Representatives interact and communicate with ship shore excursion staff and assist Sales and Service Manager and Lead Rep with logistics. On the pier, you will collect tickets, count passengers, coordinate coach dispatch, and conduct end-of-day settlements. You will also assist with periodic reports and distribution of marketing materials. Tour Representatives must present a professional and friendly attitude and be able to answer an infinite variety of questions. Must be able to stand for long periods of time; walk up to 3 miles per day; be able to complete tasks with minimal supervision and have excellent basic math skills. Must be able to work as a team member and be comfortable interacting with strangers from all over the world. Must have valid drivers license (some exceptions apply). Full and part-time available. This is a shore-based position.

Tour Dispatcher:Oversee and coordinate all traffic onto and off of our private whale watching dock – this includes vehicles, vessels and foot traffic. Primary communication occurs via radio and phones, though email and in person communication are daily facets of this position, as well. Dispatchers update passenger counts and modify vessel tour schedules as needed with the direction and input of the Port Captain. You will also make changes to crew schedules and assign relief crew as needed. Dispatchers also meet and greet passengers as they arrive at facility and direct their safe movement between coaches and vessels. Some administrative and clerical work is also involved in this position, including sending daily reports and distributing incident reports. Full and part-time available. Other duties as assigned. This is a shore-based position

Downtown Admin:This position supports and reports to the Sales and Service Manager and the Lead Tour Rep out of our downtown office. Downtown admin assists with a variety of tasks including (but not limited to) checking ship counts, replying to ADA requests, providing information about meals and dietary restrictions, filing settlements, inventorying supplies and answering phones. You will also be expected to regularly serve as a tour representative and will be scheduled daily to assist on the pier (outside). Occasionally, you will assist the Downtown Accountant in processing settlements or doing money bag pick-ups/drop-offs. Full time only, May-September. Other duties as assigned. Downtown Accounting - Admin:This position supports and reports to the Sales and Service Manager and the Lead Tour Rep out of our downtown office. Downtown Accounting-Admin assists in processing invoicing and settlements for all cruise ships, coach companies and catering partners. Duties include double checking pricing on all invoices, tracking, processing and approving settlements, picking up our downtown money bags and dropping them at Wells Fargo, processing payments for comp guests, and reporting progress to our corporate accounting staff in Sitka. Downtown Accounting-Admin will also be expected to regularly serve as a Tour Representative, and will be scheduled daily to assist on the pier (outside). Other duties as assigned. Full time only, May through September. This is a shore-based position

Lodge Attendant: (all applications read this first)All lodge positions start the day loading a 48’ catamaran with supplies for the tours and taking a 30-minute

peaceful boat ride to Colt Island. At the lodge we unload our supplies and prepare for the day’s seatings. Orca Point Lodge will have between 3-4 tours daily, with each lasting exactly one hour. After each group, the whole crew will prepare for the next tour. The work at the lodge is easy to learn, and after the first day you will be sufficiently trained. The fun of the job is in meeting and conversing with our guests who come from all over the world, and judging by their comments, thoroughly enjoy their time spent with us and our beautiful isolated island. When the days tours are over, we re-load our Catamaran and enjoy another quiet boat ride back to the dock. The work is made even more enjoyable by the camaraderie shared between our crew members. Lodge Kitchen Crew:Kitchen crew works in a professional-grade kitchen, preparing items for our buffet-style meal. This is not a

guest-facing position. You will prepare locally harvested Coho Salmon, coleslaw salad, grilled vegetables, seasoned rice and brownie desserts. The menu is set, and does not change. Some experience in a professional kitchen is helpful, but not required. Other duties as assigned. This is a shore-based position

BartenderBartenders must be 21 and possess a current Alaska TAPs Card. You will be responsible for pouring beer

from a 4 barrel tap system, serving soda, bottled beer and delicious house-made crab cocktail. You will need to work quickly, as guests are only at the lodge for one hour at a time. You must enjoy talking to people, and have a friendly, can-do attitude. Other duties as assigned. This is a shore-based position

GrillerOur griller prepares and grills chicken strips and locally harvested Coho Salmon. Though the recipe is

simple, learning to grill the best fillet is an art that takes time to perfect. You will be teamed up with an expert griller who will help train you on the job. Here you will also be “a greeter” as visitors as they pass the grill area on their way to the lodge. You will use a Traeger Grill to create perfect Alaskan treats. If you like grilling, and you enjoy meeting people, this is the ideal place for you. Other duties as assigned. This is a shore-based position

Gift ShopGift shop employees are responsible for creating outstanding retail presentations. We carry a variety of

locally made products, including jewelry, food, candies, salves and quality apparel. Gift Shop employees make the experience of shopping fun and engaging for our guests. Some of our sales tactics include sampling, story telling and making suggestions. This position is mainly guest-facing. Must love talking to people. Bonus if you love shopping! You will also be required to maintain a clean workspace, and assist your team in keeping the lodge tour-ready throughout the day. Other duties as assigned. This is a shore-based position

Assistant Supply Coordinator

This position is 80% outdoor work, 20% indoor work. You will report directly and daily to the Retail and Supply Manager and assist in supervision of a team of 4-6 employees. The Supply Department is responsible for every aspect of product movement 7 days a week from 6:00am-11:00pm. This position is full time from April to October – applicants must be available for the entire season, no part time available. Duties include managing retail and supply inventory from purchasing to receiving to stocking. Typical inventory includes paper and cleaning products, merchandise resale, clothing, food and beverage. You will assist with and direct the logistics of product movement on and off of our facility. Additionally, you must have a valid drivers license, as daily driving of company vehicles is a requirement of this job. Vehicles include passenger trucks, 15 passenger vans, mini vans and smaller cars. Driving duties include passenger transfer, crew transfer, supply procurement, recycling at local dump, and filling gas tanks. Working knowledge of Juneau roads is helpful, but not mandatory. Working knowledge of points of interest in town also useful, but not mandatory – you will be trained in both, as this position does involve some guest service. You will also be responsible for maintaining and cleaning dock storage facilities, company vehicles and dock restrooms on a daily basis, and assisting with propane tank fills for our remote lodge.
