software to communicate with them, which makes the processes a lot easier as well as more professional. In the end, like during the Great Financial Crisis more than ten years ago, we also see an opportunity in this crisis. Usually, everybody is very busy with the day-to-day challenges, but now we can look at our business from a very different angle, enhance our administration, further educate employees as well as set up for future developments. We are also training our staff in health, safety, or client contact related issues and upgraded our already unique e-tracking system for customer belongings.

Young: First of all, we are a privately-owned company, which gives us the possibility to run our business differently compared to a company with shareholders. We are not under as much pressure to increase our revenue. Instead, we can make more long-term decisions and always make sure to put the needs of our customers in front. For instance, we are very proud of owning most of our facilities. Compared to other companies, this might not be the most profitable way, but it gives us the possibility to guarantee a certain level of service and quality that our brand has been built on. This differentiates us from other companies in the industry, which we do not consider our competitors, we strive for quality and consistency of performance to support our partnerships.

GTO: Apart from your IT-systems, what else differenti-ates you from other companies in your sector?

GTO: With over 20 years of personal experience in your business, can you think of an interesting anecdote you would like to share with us at the end of this interview?Young: Because of constant change within the industry, there are always new challenges and adjustments to be made. I remember a situation with one of my former employers in the late 1990s. I was still pretty young, and the internet just started to come up. All the major documents were transmitted via fax. My boss ordered me to send an airwaybill to one of the customers, which was a very urgent matter. I did as I was told, but the customer repeatedly complained about not receiving it. As you can imagine, my boss became very angry. I told him to come over and have a look at my computer since I have e-mailed it several times. And he actually yelled at me: “Fax it! Nobody reads e-mails!”
