Water disinfection is also essential in applications where water mist is sprayed into the air, for instance cooling towers and evaporative condensers.

The problemNaturally,thewaterwedrinkandshowerinhastobecleanifwearetostayhealthy.Unfortunately,oneofthe most widespread health hazards in drinking water installations worldwide is connected to exceptionally resistantbacteria–legionella.

Legionella exist mainly in hot water systems with a lowflowrate,areasofstagnationorbadlyservicedhot water tanks. A layer of slime in the water pipes calledbiofilmisthehabitatforlegionellaandothermicroorganisms.Thebacterialive,breedandthriveinbiofilmintemperaturesbetween30and50°Candtheyconstituteaseverehealthrisk.

What are legionella bacteria?Legionellabacteriaaretheprimarysourceoflegionnaire’sdisease–apotentiallyfataldisease,particularly for those with a weakened immune system.Itisestimatedthatlegionnaire’sdiseaseisresponsiblefor15-20,000deathsinEuropeeveryyear.∗

Legionellabacteriaandthebiofilmwheretheyliveand feed are highly resistant to most disinfection methods.Thatmakeseffectivecombatagainstthemdifficult,andtheirsuccessfuleliminationcallsforspecificandhighlyspecialisedsolutions.

The chemistry of great benefitsThe Oxiperm Pro system uses chlorine dioxide for the disinfection of water. This particular chemical compoundpresentsanumberofadvantagesthatcannotbematchedbyanyotherdisinfection method.

RemovesbothfreelegionellaandbiofilmLegionellabacteriagrowandreproduceinbiofilmasdoes90%ofallbacteriainwatersystems.Biofilmisalayerofslimethatexistsinwaterpipesandespeciallyinhotwatertanks.Chlorinedioxidediffusesintothebiofilmanddestroysitfromwithin,whereasotherdisinfectantsonlyattackthesurfaceofthefilm.

No effect on water taste and smellChlorinedioxidedoesnotformthetoxicchloraminesandhaloformsthatareaby-productofchlorine-baseddisinfectionmethods.Ineffect,thewaterneither tastes nor smells of chlorine with the use of the Oxiperm Pro.

Compact designTheOxipermProhasabuilt-inmeasuringapplication,which measures the residual chlorine in the water. It also has an integrated digital dosing pump making itanall-in-onecompactsolution.

WaterpHadaptableWithchlorinedioxide,noparticular pHvalueisneeded,whichmakesit anextremelyflexibledisinfectant.

Low life cycle costWaterdisinfectionwiththeOxipermPromeansreduced chemical use and reduced energy consumption.
