This particular space, located in the basement of funkhouser, is currently being used as a computer and textiles lab for Interior Design students. The College of Design decided to relocate these labs to the first floor for more convienent access. The proposal for this basement space is to create a student lounge. This lounge will enhance and allow for mulitple activities. Productivity, relaxation, and socialization are the main focus. The lounge will provide the students with a kitchen, TV and projection space, an updated computer lab, and various meeting spaces. The lounge is created to be a flexible environment for a multitude of methods of work and interaction.

The mission of this hospital unit is to create a successful environment where the design provides a clean and supportive space for all users, create a satisfactory work environment that provides high quality care to the clients, and to blend touches of the home with the technical must haves of a healthcare space. Using a mixture of centralized and decentralized work zones allow for communication between the medical staff while maintaining superior patient care. These spaces, furniture, and fixtures all emphasize a concept of seamless interaction. Seamless interaction between the spaces and users promotes higher performance standards for the staff which in turn make for a more satisfying and safe healing environment for the patients and their families.
