Seven species have previously been described from the Indian Ocean, and 12 have been reported from other biogeographic provinces. Centre des Sci. de la Terre et Paleoecol. de l'Univ. This collection, in honor of the synthesizing work of Marian Pettibone, consists of contributions from an international group of polychaetologists, covering a variety of taxonomic and morphological areas. Many of the papers describe new species or revise previous descriptions. Development, reproduction, evolution, and systematics are treated in several papers. (gsb) 87:5181 Gordon, D.P., 1986. For the 3 species examined, Tapes rhomboMes, Glycymeris glycymeris and Spisula ovalis, from the southern part of the western English Channel, only temperature anomalies during the 2 mo following the major spawning period were positively correlated with density anomalies, probably in connection with larval stage sensitivity. Comparison of temperature anomalies and mean annual growth variability suggests an apparent positive effect of temperature during autumn or winter months, significant for T. rhomboMes only.
