    >- Use a spiral bound notebook witll sturdy covers.--Make sure the pages don't have additional tear-out perforations.-- f notebooks with sturdy covers are not available, use a slipcover.

    >- Take your notebook with you everywhere

    >- List phone numbers you need iI1 the first few pages

    >- A notebook "page" consists of two' facing sheets, left side & right side (just likea surveyor's notebook). See Figure 1.

    >- Start a new "page" for each day. Write the day of the week and date in theupper right comer ofth~ right side. Do this consistently, even if you haveonly used one line for "yesterday". Consistency is important legally.

    >- Use the right side to record things you need to do as you learn them throughoutthe day, no matter what the completion date.

    -- dentify each new task by a nwnber.

    >- Use the left side to record meeting minutes, telephone conversations, etc., duringthe day. Recognize you can also get to-dos from meetings and conversations.Tape in important notes, telephone messages, etc., so you don't have torewrite them.

    >- Continue the day's listing, when necessary, on the next "page" by noting the dateand "continued" in the upper right comer of the right 'side.

    >- Mark every entry on a page to show how it has beenhandled:II' Check through the number for anything that is done.* Use a star to indicate items that are "hot",

    Write a name next to tasks given to others or taken byyour supervIsor.

    Circle the task number of any item transferred orward, either in thecurrent week or rolled over to the next Monday.x Cross out the number of items that becomeunnecessary o do

    >- Transfer incomplete tasks from the prior week's pages to a new Monday page.This ~scalled a "roll-over" and can include items from before the prior weekThe roll-over becomes your CUlTent ist of things to do. See Figure 2.- List meetings you know about first to help you schedule your time.

    -Do this before Mondaymoming so you're ready to meet the week.- Your list could extend to two or even three pages.-Use a Post-It tab to mark the cUlTent "Monday" to find it easily.
