General Cable offers all type of cables for specific applications in railway infrastructures. It also has instrumentation and control cables with pro-ducts suitable for standard and for specific made-to-measure uses, in order to deliver the proper solution to each project.

Tunnels require high levels of service and safety for users. As the railway passes through a closed and compact space, passenger and possible pedestrian safety is at a higher risk. The tunnel must therefore be equipped with a series of fixed installations in which risk of accident or fire has to be reduced to acceptable levels.
The energy supply required for tunnel installations to operate must guarantee its reliability. Lighting, for example, requires a system with a light point distribution that ensures optimum lighting levels in all zones of the tunnel, particularly at emer-gency exits. Lighting must be equipped with the maximum safety features to guarantee the proper evacuation of users in the event of serious accident or fire. In the specific event of fire, the tunnel must be equipped with efficient fire detec-tion and extinguishing systems, and with optimum electrical installations to prevent harmful consequences such as the combustion of materials, emission of toxic gases, and smoke opacity.

The Fire resistant tests are the most relevant standards for these type of cables. Because these tests guarantee the ope-ration of the cables in a fire, a period of time that is essential to guarantee detection of the fire, to raise the alarm, and to ensure safe evacuation from the facilities and the interven-tion of the firefighters and emergency teams.
The fire resistant cables are also highly flexible, which gua-rantees a significant reduction in installation time and cost.
