Global Naming Convention Guideline

Sales- and Storage locations

Issued by: Business Support TeamAuthor: Ulrika Andersson

CONTENTCONTENTThis document contains the guidelines for the naming of sales- and storage locations valid in all stores. It does not contain any working methods or stating which function/role is responsible for doing what and when.

1.1 Release information - valid for release 3.01.1.1 Reasons for a new release of the naming convention

The previous version of the naming convention was created to support the implementation of the SLM tool delivered by the SRP project. This implementation has been successfully closed during FY12 and the immediate need of global rules for the naming of the locations in the store has decreased. Nevertheless, we still see the need of a global praxis on how to name the sales and storage locations in an IKEA store and we have chosen to continue to deliver a global naming convention that should function as a guideline on how to name the locations in the store. This means that there are possibilities for a store to name locations differently but all new system development and potential enhancements to the convention will be based on the naming convention produced by the global naming convention group.

The rearrangement of the range structure, initiated by IoS and the implementation of the new Market Hall program have also made changes to the naming convention necessary.

1.2 PurposeThe purpose of having a global Naming Convention of the sales- and storage locations in all stores is supporting: Easy identification where an article is located Easy identification if an article have multiple sales locations and where they are located Standardisation through global working methods Securing a global, reliable overview of storage capacities

1.3 ValidationThe global Naming Convention is validated by Retail Sales and the Naming Convention Group, representing Retail Logistics.

1.4 FrameworkFrame work for the naming of sales- and storage locations: Maximum 6 digits are possible to register in MHS for sales- and storage locations. The examples of

storage- and sales locations in this document are always shown with a hyphen (-) between the digits to make it easier to understand.

A primary sales location must always be registered. The pictures in this document only illustrate the principles of the Naming Convention. Appendix “Standard Sales Location IDs” describes in more detail the naming of all standard Sales

Locations in a store The racking, display shelves, showcases, where to store the different kind of pallets etc. should always

follow the “How to improve the Self-serve furniture area”. Naming Convention is valid for articles with SM 0, SM 1 and SM 2. SM 3 is not within the scope.

1.5 DefinitionsTerminology DefinitionArticle Only in relation or referring to an article number. More system wise.Naming Convention Page 4 of (30)
