Give it a Go (GIAG)
Give it a Go is an activities programme which offers you the opportunity to leap into the unknown and try something new, learn new skills, and meet new people. With trips around the UK, taster sessions ranging from language learning to dancing, and activities including go karting and pottery painting, there really is something for everyone. So, what are you waiting for?

Please note: purchasing of tickets is subject to the GIAG refund and cancellation policy. Please read our T&Cs on the Website, or ask in the Activities Centre.

While not every sessions requires you to book in advance, we recommend that you do to avoid disappointment if a session becomes too full and we have to turn you away!

Go Global
Go Global is a series of one-off activities; similar to Give it a Go, but they all have a cultural or international focus. It’s a chance to do things you might not normally do, meet new people and learn more about the great city you live in. Where else could you meet students from across the globe, develop your skills and expand your world without leaving home?

Book your place today by emailing [email protected] a space in advance is advised we may run out of space on activities. Students who book in advance will be required to come in and pay a £1 deposit (where stated) to reserve their spot. This will be refunded if the student attends the event . You can also turn up on the day, but we will turn students away if we do not have enough space.

RAG Week
‘Raise and Give’ Week is a chance for students to take part in trying to collect as much money as possible for charity. With over 150 volunteers collecting for our chosen charities through street collections, nighttime events, and in some very curious fancy dress costumes, RAG Week is an excellent opportunity to make new friends and learn valuable life skills while doing some good in the world. Laing Art Gallery

Conservation
Fancy doing your bit for Newcastle’s wildlife? Conservation Society is aiming to improve areas of land around Newcastle to do just that, and they want you to help. Tasks include sowing wildflower seeds, creating log piles for insects and hides for small mammals to nest in and building birdhouses. There may even be a trip to our local feeding house to wash all the hard work down with! An excellent opportunity to socialise while doing your bit. Volleyball

Go Play
Go Play is the all-new ‘Alternative Sports Programme’ at Newcastle University, giving students an opportunity to try a new sport, pick up an old one or just dip in and out without needing to commit. There are no membership fees, no commitments, and no pressure to compete – it’s just fun, friendly Sport For All!
We offer many different sports every term, most running for 6 weeks. You don’t need any experience – every session is suitable for beginners and all equipment is provided. Most sports are £3 per week or £10 for 6 weeks - some are FREE!
Sign Me Up!
For everything except the ‘turn up & play’ sports, you need to book a place, as places are limited. To sign up, just come into the students’ union and pay at the Activities Centre (1st floor) at the Go Play desk. You can also sign up online at www.NUSU.co.uk/goplay . You can pay for just one week, or all 6 weeks of one sport – the choice is yours!
Basketball

Horse Riding
Horses? In the city? That’s right! A lovely stable will give you 6 weeks of beginner lessons for just £10 a session! Horses provided, of course! Women’s Squash
Sorry fellas, this one’s just for the ladies. In association with the uni women’s squash coach, we want to get more ladies playing for fun! You’ll be coached with equipment provided, so have a go!Thursday 5.20-7.20pm Start date: 7th February
Kayaking
Beginner sessions indoors in a lovely warm pool! Our coaches will get you started and we’ll play some fun games of canoe polo to hone your new skills. Runs for THREE weeks. Transport provided for £2 at 7pm.Thursday 7.30-9.30pm Start date: 14th February
