Texting and driving is the cause of nearly 25% of all car accidents in Dallas. MetroPCS is working to help decrease these unnecessary accidents and lives taken each year by raising awareness of the risks of texting while driving, as well as starting a petition to get a bill passed. This will not only save the lives of the drivers guilty of the act, but also their passengers and other innocent drivers on the road. By pairing up with the Chamber, MetroPCS is confident that awareness about the risks of texting while driving will be raised and enough signatures will be provided for the petition to make a difference in Dallas. MetroPCS, along with our Sponsor, JBL, will be hosting a dinner event with casino night, raffles, and a few local political guest speakers at the Dallas Museum of Arts in Downtown Dallas on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 7:00 P.M. We are asking for the Dallas Chamber of Commerces presence and support to successfully host the Get a Grip dinner. Together, we can make a difference to the roads in Dallas and continue to raise awareness.

Background

The Dallas Regional Chamber of Commerce:

The Dallas Regional Chamber of Commerce has been helping our community since 1909. They are a non-profit organization that helps Dallas grow in a variety of ways, whether it be economically or just bettering the standard of living in Dallas. The Chamber of Commerce strives to help local businesses prosper and grow. Their mission is Together we will lead the Dallas region to become the most economically prosperous region and the most desirable place to live and work in the United States.

MetroPCS:

MetroPCS is a nationwide wireless communication provider which was founded in 1994, in Richardson TX. It started with a vision of bringing consumers simple and affordable phone service. MetroPCS is the first to offer cell phone plans prepaid with unlimited usage to everyone without a credit check. In 2013, MetroPCS was bought by T-Mobile, but continues to keep its own identity. Since 1997, MetroPCS has held the annual MetroPCS Dallas Marathon, and has raised over three million dollar for the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. The company has always put the community as its number one priority, and we are positive our next event will have a huge positive impact on our community.

The Dallas Regional Chamber of Commerce and MetroPCS Partnership:

MetroPCS understands the importance of the Dallas communitys safety. With our continuous involvement with bettering the community with our annual Dallas Marathon to raise money for the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, we feel that MetroPCS would be a perfect partner for The Dallas Regional Chamber of Commerce. MetroPCS and The Dallas Regional Chamber of Commerce will come together with the knowledge of their past experiences with the community, with the effort to bring awareness and safety to the roads in and around the Dallas area.

JBL

JBL, our sponsor is an American audio electronics company founded in 1946 by James Bullough Lansing, hence its name (JBL). It is currently own by Harman International, which is a company that designs, manufactures and markets audio and infotainment products for the car, the home, theatres and venues, as well as electronics for audio professionals. JBL is a company dedicated to global excellence in the branded-audio and infotainment markets. It will show its support for the event by giving away a home theatre system to a randomly selected guest.

Company Connection and Need

As a wireless provider, MetroPCS would like to help bring awareness to the community regarding the dangers of texting and driving and bring a positive change to Dallas by banning the use of mobile devices, like many other states and cities have done. Distracted driving has become the number one cause of car accidents. Texting while driving results in 25% of all accidents in Dallas, which puts many families at risk. Statistics show that you are six times for likely to get into an accident while texting and driving than while intoxicated. According to nsc.org/safe drivers, In 2013, cell phone use was a contributing factor in more than 1,000 Texas crashes. According to textinganddrivingsafety.com the minimal amount of time your attention is taken away from the road when youre texting and driving is 5 seconds. So if youre travelling at 55 mph, this equals driving the length of a football field without looking at the road According to the same website, texting while driving causes:

1,600,000 accidents per year National Safety Council

330,000 injuries per year Harvard Center for Risk Analysis Study

11 teen deaths EVERY DAY Ins. Institute for Hwy Safety Fatality Facts

Nearly 25% of ALL car accidents

On June 17, 2011, Governor Rick Perry vetoed a statewide ban on texting while driving, as he felt it was a government effort to micromanage the behavior of adults. We feel it is our obligation to help people use the services we provide in a safe and responsible matter and to reduce the number of accidents on the roads. Currently in Texas, it is against the law for anybody to use their cell phones in school zones, and for drivers under 18 to use cell phones at all while behind the wheel. Although these few laws that ban cell phone usage will help to some degree, MetroPCS does not feel it is enough to protect the city on a day to day basis.

Over the past few years, cell phone usage has increased drastically, simply because of what you are capable of doing on your phone. Without raising awareness to our community and making a move to get a law passed to prohibit individuals from using mobile devices while driving will only increase the statistics on the number of collisions and deaths caused by texting while driving in Dallas.

With the help of the Chamber of Commerce, we feel we can help jump start the process of outlawing use of handheld devices while behind the wheel all the time for any age group not just in school zones and for younger drivers, as well as raise awareness with our #GetAGripDallas on social media sites. MetroPCS wants to make it their goal to help put an end to this unnecessary crucial issue we face in the City of Dallas, and make our community a safer place for our families and children.

To Whom It May Concern:

For the past eight years we have had the pleasure of working with MetroPCS annually to host the annual Dallas Marathon charity event. We appreciate and hope to continue our partnership for years to come.

The MetroPCS Dallas Marathon that takes place annually every December has made a tremendous impact on our community and our beneficiary The Texas Scottish Rite Hospital. By joining forces MetroPCS has helped us raise over three million dollars for the Hospital, with participants reaching over thirty thousand.

The individuals at MetroPCS were essential to our success. We are thankful for having such a dedicated team on our side. The Dallas Marathon would highly recommend MetroPCS. Hosting an event with the MetroPCS team is a guaranteed check.

Herewith I want to express my positive experiences with MetroPCS represented by Roger D Linquist.

MetroPCS is one of my top cellphone providers and a great company for low wage earning families and customers. During my university years, I was able to handle my cellphone bills thanks to this company. Moreover, the company and their staff are well educated on their products. Thus customers would always find the right products that fit their needs. I feel that its position of low cost leader and friendly staff is a great asset to motivate and attract potential customers. I would highly recommend MetroPCS as the cellphone provider you need.

Case Study

Background- MetroPCS and the Dallas Marathon joined forces back in 2009 to encourage our community to help Dallas better its community and economy. The MetroPCS Dallas Marathon, formerly known as The White Rock Marathon, is a local non -profit organization that started back in December 1971 to bring a positive change to Dallas. The MetroPCS Dallas Marathon organizes runs and races for several charities and causes; its main beneficiary is the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. The full marathon course includes the Dallas Arts District, Uptown,Highland Park and University Park.

Purpose The MetroPCS Dallas Marathon wanted a way to encourage the community to live a physically active lifestyle, and to help raise money for sick children in the Dallas Area. The MetroPCS Dallas Marathon primarily gives its proceeds to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, which allows children to get medical attention regardless of whether they can afford it or not. The Marathon began as a single annual marathon, and now hosts several marathons and races throughout the year to raise more money and bring more awareness to our community.

Result- This Marathon is now going on its 44th annual marathon and has been a huge success since the beginning. The marathon is now one of the citys largest single-day events. Metro Pcs and the Dallas Marathon have risen over 3.5 million dollars for the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. When it began in 1971, only eighty people attended the marathon. The event now draws anywhere between 25 thousand to 35 thousand participants. The MetroPCS Dallas Marathon alone has an $8.7 million economic impact on the city and $11 million on Dallas County. MetroPCS and the Dallas Marathon have had a huge impact on our community by joining hands and raising tremendous amounts of donations for a good cause, as well as boost the economy of Dallas.
