THE DOORI6AN PROPERTY
PETAWANGA LAKE AREA
DISTRICT OF THUNDER BAY
ONTARIO
BY
Shaun P. Parent
INTRODUCTION-
This report of geophysical activities is written, following completion of both V.L.F. Electromagnetic and Magnetometer geophysical surveys on a group of 6 claims;. This property is situated at approximately 88 16 longitude by 66 26' latitude in the mining district of Thunder Bay in the p r o v i n c e o f O n t a r i o.
PROPERTY-
The group of 6 claims has been called the Doorigan property, and hosts the ALPAMAYO showing consisting of copper, silver, and gold assays. The ground was staked in August, September 1989. Claims occur on claim map sheet Petawanga Ci-387. Claims are numbered TB 1122021, TB 1122022, TB 1122023, TB 1122024, TB1122025, TB1122026.

GEOLOGY OF AREA-
T'he area on which the property is located is found within the east uchi volcanic belt. Rock types are primarily mafic to intermediate rnetavolcanics. Interest to the site was drawn by an outcrop of a chlorite-- ga r ne t-mica schist in which a grab sample assayed values of l. 2'A copper. This showing was discovered in August 1989 during a prospecting traverse.
WORK PERFORMED-
Approximately 11.25 Krns. of baseline and crosslines were cut and blazed in August. 1989. Following this, 2 ground geophysical surveys were performed. The survey consisted of V.L.F'. electromagnetic and magnetic techniques.
V.L.F. ELECTROMAGNETIC SURVEY-
The electromagnetic method utilized a Peonies EM-16 V.L.F.instrument. The lines were traversed in a north-south direction whereby the instrument- operator always faced northeast when a reading was taken.
(1)
The V.L.F. receiver unit obtains readings.
(i) IN~PHASE- using a
A measured mechanical
range of f- 150 X clinometer. The
with a sensitivity to *~ IX in-phase component measures the
vertical component of tilt of the polarization ellipse major axis.
(2) QUAD-PHASE- A measured range of *- 40 X with a sensitivity to *~ IXwhich is measured using a graduated cylinder. The quad-phase measures the vertical component of ellipticity of the polarization ellipse.
BASIC PRICIPLE OF V.L.F. SURVEYING-
The V.L.F. EM-l6 is a simple receiving coil which is sensitive to the magnetic radiation transmitted by powerful military antennas located throughout the world. Each transmitter has a separate frequency, to which each V.L.F. receiver can be tuned, using plug in crystals. In surveying with the unit, the transmitting station should be at right angles to the direction of tyhe survey lines. In the case of this survey on the Doorigan property, CUTLER NAA 24.0 Khz. was used.
Due to its frequency rating, the V.L.F. unit will provide responses in both good and poor conductive horizons. Therefore, the V.L.F. survey is unique in the detection of both strongly mineralized and weakly mineralized conduct- i ve ho r i zons.
METHOD OF PLOTTING-
MAP l- shows stacked V.L.F. profiles of the surveyed lines. The in-phasnwhile the quad phase is a dashed

MAP 3- This map shows the fraser filtered V.L.F. data. The fraset filtered map when contoured aids in the interpretation of the data as noise is eliminated. Near surface anomalies are amplified and are indicated by higher values.
MAGNETIC METHOD-
The magnetic method utilized a GEM 8 portable proton precessior magnetometer. The crosslines were traversed with the receiving coil placed next to the chained station.
The magnetic method obtains one reading on a LED display. A measurement of the total magnetic field in gammas. Range of measurement of this instruent is from 20,000 to 100,000 gammas, with a resolution of *- l gamma.
.
'BASIC PRINCIPLE OF MAGNETOMETER SURVEYS-
The earths magnetic field resembles the magnetic field generated by 3 huge bar magnet. The portable magnetometer is used to identify suttle small spatial changes in this field, that occur close to the earths surface. Such anomalies are caused by magnetic: minerals such as magnetite and pyrrhotite. Rocks having a higher concentration of these minerals are said to be more magnetic, thus producing higher magnetic signatures. Rocks having a lower percentage of these minerals produce lower signatures.
METHOD OF PLOTTING-
MAP 2- Values in garnrnas were plotted for each station surveyed on a plan map, with a scale of 152000. Contour lines connecting areas of equal intensity were then plotted, at a contour interval of 250 garnrnas. A base level of 60,000 was chosen as a datum point. Areas on the map having a value less then 60,000 occur within the depression. Areas having a stron magnetic signature show tightly spaced contours.
RESULTS-
The V.L.F. ELECTROMAGNETIC and MAGNETIC survey results are plotted on Maps l, 3 and 2.
The V.L.F. ELECTROMAGNETIC method ou lined several conductive horizons. Map 4 shows a compilation of V.L.F. and sampling locations. The ALPAMAYO SHOWING is also out-lined.
CONDUCTOR A-- Although only occurring on two lines, it appears to have a bed r~ oc k sou r ce.
CONDUCTOR EI- This strong conductor shows both in-phase and quad-phase response. It dips to the south and may extend off the grid to the east. Trenches were attempted along the axis of this conductor at two locations but bedrock was not reached. The ALPAMAYO COPPER SILVER showing occurs some 40 meters north of this conductor.
CONDUCTOR C- A weak conductor probably the result of overburden.
CONDUCTOR D- A strong response due to a bedrock source.
CONDUCTOR E- Strong response which is oblique to the grid. Very likely due to a bedrock source.
CONDUCTOR F- A weak response apparently dipping to the north.
CONDUCTOR G- Overburden source.
CONDUCTOR H- A weak south dipping horizon?
CONDUCTOR I- Single line response due to overburden.
CONDUCTOR J- North dipping bedrock conductor.O)
{CONDUCTOR K- Weak conductor oblique to the grid lines, similar to E probably dueto bedrock.
CONDUCTOR L- Insufficient data to interpret this single crossover.
CONDUCTOR M- Weak bedrock conductor?
CONDUCTOR N- A single line bedrock conductor?
CONDUCTOR O- Weak overburden response.
MAGNETIC METHOD-
The GEM 8 magnetometer magnetic survey (Map 2) shows an zone of moderate response, which follows the axis of the V.L.F. conductor. A magnetic low occurs over the strongest portion of the V.L.F. The magnetic trend appears to continue off the eastern portion of the grid. Other smaller magnetic trends on the grid are probably related to the zones of mafic volcanics that occur within the felsic rocks.
RESULTS -
The strong V.L.F. conductor (EO is the main anomaly of attraction on the property, as it has an associated magnetic response. As well the ALPAMAYO SHOWING which is most likely an alteration zone occurs on the footwall side of .this* conductor. Assays from sampling of the showing and the trenches are found at the end of this report. A laboratory report of sample identification from the showing is also enclosed.
RECOMMENDATIGNS-
Further detailed exploration using trenching and geophysics should be carried out along strike and adjacent to the ALPAMAYO SHOWING and the V.L.F. c o n d u c t o r .

The DOORIGAN property consists of 6 claims 1122021-1122026 which were staked by S. Parent in Sep t ernbe r 1989.
August
HISTORY-
From reconn prospecting in September 1989, the propertyshows little bedrock outcropping due to ground moraine cover. Known bedrock consists of well foliated granite gneiss, arnphibolites and some greenschist. A new showing of copper was discovered in August 1989. The ALPAMAYO COPPER SILVER SHOWING occurs in a garnet chlorite mica schist.
Although several oldcut lines exist some 200 meters eastof the showing, IT APPEARS THAT NO PREVIOUS FIELD WORK has ever been done on this property.
1989 FIELD WORK-- During August, September 1989 a grid was cut Ho cover the 6 claims 1122021-1122026. V.L.F. and Magnetometer surveys were carried out, as well as prospecting. Results of the V.L.F. survey indicate several conductive horizons. The main conductor occurs north of the baseline and within 40 meters of the ALPAMAYO SHOWING. The magnetic survey shows an interesting area of moderate magnetic response which follows the main V.L.F. horizon. Prospecting uncovered the ALPAMAYO SHOWING and surface blasting to -10 crn. proved copper silver mineralization. Assay results from grab samples are found at the end of this report, as wellas on the general compilation map. Two trenches in ground moraine were attempted in order to reach thebedrock. A thick clay layer and groundwater layer was reached before bedrock so the trenches were abandoned. Geochemical samples of the till were taken, and assayed. Theseare found at the end of the report.

The BOYLEN PROSPECT consists of 6 claims 1120979, 1120976, 1120977, 1122020, 1120975, 1040631
An outcropping consists of metavolcanics, metasediment^ and granite gneiss. The mineralization consists f. chalcopyrite, pyrrhotite, pyrite, galena, sphalerite and magnetite disseminated in the rnetavolcanic ar rnetasedirnentary rocks. The chalcopyrite disseminated in gabb r o (MRC 12, 1969).
M..J. Boylen Engineering offices carried out magnetometer and Magniphase E.M. surveys in 1961. Both surveys indicate a strong conductive horizon that appeared to outcrop Further trenching indicated mineralized copper boulders in trench l although bedrock was not reached. Several drillholes intersected interesting mineralization as wel as a wide carbonate alteration zone.

NO SAMPLES TAKEN MO FURTHER WORK HAS OCCURRED ON THIS PROPERTY SINCE THIS TIME.
1989 FIELD WORK-- During August 1989 recutting of the original Boy l enQr i d was done in order to resurvey the prospect with Mag anc V.L.F. Results of both surveys indicated a good strong conductor which dips steeply to the south and extends across the clain group. This conductor appears to be the result of the carbonate alteration zone. Another weaker conductor occurs along the southern flank of the grid. A grab sstrnple was taken from th* area in the vicinity of trench 3. Assay results are found at the end of the report. In July 1989 the prospect was visited by John Mason and Gerry White of The Ministry of Northeri- Development and Mines. Samples from the trenches were obtained and sent to the O.G.6. for Assay. Results are found at the ent of the report as well as on the general compilation map.
