This map is a semester-by-semester course schedule. The milestones listed to the right of each semester are designed to keep you on course to graduate in four years. The schedule serves as a

general guideline to help you build a full schedule each semester. Courses must be selected to satisfy all General Education requirements unless your program meets these requirements with major

courses. Milestones are courses and special requirements necessary for timely progress to complete a major. Missing Milestones will result in major delays in your graduation. If a student is in non-

compliance with milestones for two consecutive semesters, he or she should consider changing the major in consultation with the advisors. All secondary education majors should meet with the

education advisor and the content advisor each semester when scheduling. It is necessary to receive the content specialization rotation schedule. Scholarship recipients, including Promise

Scholars, are responsible for reviewing and complying with the minimum hour requirement as required by scholarship guidelines. For example, Promise Scholars must complete a total of 30

credit hours during the Fall and Spring semesters.

A college student who plans for a career as a teacher must pursue a curriculum in teacher education, which leads to a Bachelor of Science in Education degree and meets the academic requirements

for a license to teach in the public schools of West Virginia. This program requires candidates to demonstrate that (1) They are focused on public school student achievement and success. (2) They

are role models for public school students. (3) They have the potential to be a member of the teaching profession. Candidates must demonstrate these three dispositions throughout the program

that requires the completion of a rigorous academic content specialization, combined with a complimentary sequence of related general education courses and a professional sequence of

education courses that contain at least 800 clock hours of field placements and student teaching. Once certified, the graduate could teach Biology Education in a public school.
