She received a Winston Churchill Memorial Fellowship to study in Europe and is an Honoured Fellow and a Fellow of the Calligraphy & Lettering Arts Society, UK. From this we will learn the nuances of adding body and character to our letterforms. This class will be a great forerunner for any versal study. Layout, bond or marker paper, offcut of Fine Art paper (such as Arches text wove [Velin], hot press watercolor pa-per) you already have in cream, white or tan, small ruler, 0.5 mechanical pencil, kneaded and white erasers, dip pens such as Brause (recommended) or Mitchell small sizes 1mm, 3/4mm, black non-waterproof ink, such as ink stick & stone or Pelikan 4001, ink rags or paper towels, notebook. Hedi Kyle Fishbone Book – 1NR1Nan RobkinAll levelsThis is a fun structure that looks com-plicated but really is simple to make if you follow instructions carefully. You can use large sheets of practice paper if you have them.Sheet of text-weight or light-weight handmade paper, at least 20"x 30", sheet of heavier paper to make cover, at least 10"x12". 12"metal ruler, pencil, craft knife and extra blades, cutting mat at least 9"x12", glue stick. Optional: White pencil if using dark paper. ($3)

The pre-registration for the all-event package is available only by mail. Lunch is included only through pre-registration. Deadline for pre-registration: April 26th. There are no refunds after that date, but the registration is transferable. The minimum age is 16. All refunds are subject to a $10 service fee. Re-turned checks are subject to a $20 service fee.

This alphabet style also has a contemporary quality and we will create a fun card to display our new knowledge. Basic supply list as well as larger pen nibs (speedball C-1 or C-2 or Mitchell 1 or 2), layout or grid paper, a few markers (any kind) for color embel-lishment, water bottle, water container, your favorite liquid glue (i.g., elmers, PVA). SCRIBES’ TABLEThe Scribes’ Table has been a great place to sell your calligraphy, art work, paper products, and all things related to calligraphy for a paltry 10% commission. If you are a mem-ber of WOC or a teacher at LOJ, you are qualified to offer your treasured creations for sale. Where else will that ever happen? Over the years we have sold hand-decorated, quilted wall hangings with lettering, many, many cards, framed or matted art work, books, kits for paper projects, inkwells, bookmarks, lettered kitchen towels and handmade journals. To receive detailed information and an inventory sheet (which is mandatory), and your pricing code (so you get paid for the sales) contact Kay Lewis, Scribes’ Table coordinator. Extra inventory sheets will be available at LOJ for you late decision makers. Kay Lewis will respond to email with the words “Scribes’ Table” in the subject line at [email protected].

EXHIBITS Participants are encouraged to share

their artwork at LOJ. The grid display system will be mounted on the stage. All artwork must have a hanging wire for attachment to the grid. Books are not possible to display this year. SCHOLARSHIPSThree scholarships will be offered

to high school and college students, age 16 and over. Seattletters is also offering one scholarship to a high school and college student. To apply, send a letter in your everyday hand-writing stating why you would like to attend. Include your name, phone number, email address, where you attend school and how you will use the information. Mail or email to the addresses below.

Letters of Joy has moved to an-other location this year: Green River College in Auburn, WA. All of our activities will be located in just two buildings: The Student Affairs & Success Center (SA) and Salish Hall (SH). LOJ registration, lecture, lunch, vendors and silent auctions will hap-pen in the SA. All classes will be held in the SH.

Participants should enter through the East Entrance Park and park free in P13, P8 or P10. Walk up Mathews Way, go up the stairs to the back en-trance of the SA building.

Free disabled parking is located in P8, located between Holman Library (HL) and Mel Lindbloom Student Union (SU). Proceed to the front entrance of the SA. The main campus map shows accessible walkways and entrances: https://www.greenriver.edu/campus/welcome-desk/main-campus-map/Green River College has Health Department rules which do not allow outside food brought in to be shared with others. Snacks and meals will be provided to LOJ participants through Spectra, the campus catering service.
