Using the A4 plain paper provided, write out AFOREST in bold colours, to help you to remember it in an exam – can you think of any examples to go with each technique?

To achieve the best mark in Writing to Persuade (or Argue) in Paper 1, follow these easy points:
PAF
Time to Have a Go…
In pairs or threes, choose one of the example exam questions.
Write question in the middle of A3 paper.
In different colours, highlight or underline Purpose / Audience / Form.
Now write 5 points you want to make – as a spider diagram.
Number the points in the order you would discuss them in an exam.
AFOREST – decide where you can use the techniques and write examples next to each point.

Write the paragraph, making sure you include at least one technique from AFOREST
