CRIME ANNOUNCEMENTS: From April 16, 2011 to May 25, 2011Reported to the GCA Safety & Security Committee: We cant know whats happening inour area unless you call us at 773.635.6500 after you call the police. Afraid? We can pass on yourcrime info for you! WE STILL NEED MORE GCA PATROL VOLUNTEERS! Call 773.635.6500 &volunteer. You can always identify GCA SECURITY PATROL VOLUNTEERS because theyrewearing lime green caps and vests with GCA identification. Show your SUPPORT & SAY HELLO

Reporting a Crime Incident:Be sur e to call the 6th District Watch

Commander's (DWC) Direc t Phone: 312.745.3610 first when reporting a crimein actionor suspicious people. REMEMBER EVERYONE: A CRIME IN ACTION orSUSPICIOUS PEOPLE!Some neighbors are calling after the crime has been com-mited-example like a car stolen. For crimes already committed, you must call 911If a crime is in action, call the Watch Commander and insist that: The 6th DistrictCommander Eddie Johnson said GCA members & Chatham neighbors should callthe DWC & 911 to report their crime. Remember, you still have to call 911 too! On Saturday, April 16th, a U.S. mail carrier was robbed at gunpoint in the block of 78th & Indiana. The postman wasrobbed of his carrier keys, that mail carriers use to open the lock box, which holds property owners' keys to the entry doorsof any apartment building in order to access multiple mailboxes. The significance of this robbery is huge because now theburglars can open any post office lock box on the front of building entry doors and access those entry door keys unless

the property owners changed their locks after the robbery. Recent high burglar activity in our community requires that aproperty owner with a lockbox holding an entry door key should have those entry door keys changedburglars could entertheir lobbies now just like the mail carriers can. Those postal keys are not customized; so one key fits all postal boxes. U.S.Postal Inspector, Randy Delfin is asking residents with any additional information or concerns to contact hi

at: 1.877.696.5322. Sketches of the perp are being passed out in our neighborhood. A neighbor who lives on the 8400 SPrairie block called to inform us that on May 11

th, a so-called female representative from the Spark Energy Company came

her home. The woman said she could reduce the neighbors electric bill. This so-called representative asked the neighbor togive her a copy of her COMED bill. Naturally, the neighbor said NO! Please exercise all caution regarding door sales repre-sentatives: dont give out any personal information. If you do want to talk to them, ask for all ID information and a number sothat you can confirm who they are by calling their companys headquarters. And lastly, dont let any strangers into your hous

Two men & a woman casing the 8100 S. Prairie block/alley area were apprehended by police on May 19 th. Vigilantneighbors spotted the men walking n the area & alerted police. Two GCA Safety Patrol members & another neighbor alsoinformed the police that a second woman was seen sitting in the car that the perps were using. But she ran away! A grateful

thank you to all of the neighbors and GCA Safety Patrol guys who reported this situation & got the police involved immediatWatchful eyes make a difference! Around May 25

th, a van was stolen on the E. 82

ndblock near State Street. A neighbor, w

lives around the corner on the block of 82nd

& State Street said another van was also stolen a week earlier on State Street.

Special Thanks From Roosevelt K. Vonil, GCA PresidentDear GCA Members, Chatham Neighbors & Other 6th Ward Guests

For those neighbors who were unable to make our May GCA meeting with Alderman Sawyer,we just wanted you to know you missed a great turn-out! Three hundred and eight (308)concerned Chatham neighbors, along with folks from the Park Manor, Chesterfield and Engle-wood communities, came to meet our alderman and his new staff. We were very pleased that

you supported us and extended a rousing show of support for Alderman Sawyer. I would al-so like to thank Allison Butts (GCA Education Chairman) for chairing the Sawyer receptionafterwards. It was obvious everyone enjoyed the event. In addition, I would like to thank DebraBanks, Marynette Giles, Ava Martin, Johnny Johnson and Fernando Carrasco for volunteer-ing to assist Mrs. Butts at the reception. With all of the excitement and rushing, Mrs.Butts was unable to get all of the names of neighbors who contributed food donations.Obviously, we cant thank you enough! However, we do want to give a personal shout-out of thanks in the July newsletter to all the wonderful people who donated food. So

please call the GCA phone line at 773.635.6500 and leave your name and contribution. We promise to mention everyone. Be sure to say it clearly and slowly. Thanks again.
