Kundapur Vaman Kamath is theNon-Executive Chairman of ICICIBank, the largest private bankin India.

Mr. Kamath served as ICICI Bank'sManaging Director and CEO from

May 1, 1996 until his retirement fromexecutive responsibilities on April 30,2009.

On 30th April 2011, K V Kamath wasannounced to replace Mr. N RNarayana Murthyas the chairmanof Infosys Technologies. Murthy willstep down as Chairman of theBoard in August 2011 to give way toKamath.[2]

where he spent mostof his early years.

He is married to Rajalaxmi and has ason, Ajay Kamath and a daughter,Ajnya Kamath Pai.

He has two grandsons, Nandan K. Paiand Lakshan K. Pai who reside in theUnited States.

After graduating from IIM-A in 1971, Kamathstarted his career with ICICI (Industrial Creditand Investment Corporation of India), in theProject Finance division and moved on todifferent departments to gather experiencewhich included setting up of new businesses

such as leasing, venture capital, credit rating aswell as handling general managementpositions.

As part of his general management

responsibilities he initiated and implementedICICI's computerisation programme.

Substantial investments in technologyfrom the early years have resulted insystems that are today a competitiveadvantage for ICICI.

Kamath has generally been credited with

expanding ICICI's businesses to evolve itinto a technology-enabled financialorganisation catering to the financialneeds of corporate and retail customers.[3]

In 1988, Kamath joined the Asian Development Bank,Manila in their Private Sector Department.

His principal work experience at ADB was in variousprojects in China, India, Indonesia, Philippines,Bangladesh and Vietnam.

He was the ADB representative on the Boards of

several companies.

In May 1996, Kamath returned to ICICI asits Managing Director and Chief ExecutiveOfficer. Kamath was instrumental inexpanding the Group's services to the

retail customers.

He initiated a process of a series of

acquisitions of non-banking financecompanies in 1996-98, and led the way tothe formation of ICICI Bank.
