FROMTHEINSIDEOUTSIDEWhen we started writing the songs for this album, foremost in our hearts and minds were the young people we’ve had the chance to work with over the last few years. Young people who live in different parts of the world, with their gifts and their challenges: fears for the future, addictions, insecurities, issues of self-esteem…How to find hope in such a mixed up world? Our last album was an invitation to look on the other side. This time we wanted to concentrate on discovering the power that every person has within. Digging deep, finding in our own experiences and those who’ve inspired us to be better people, drawing on the great potential that each one of us has and “from the inside” to be builders of peace around us. Starting from within our own hearts, from the inside outside.

Il nostro album precedente era un invito a guardare on the other side - “dall’altra parte”. Vogliamo cominciare dai nostri cuori per uscire fuori di noi, verso tutti, from the inside outside.

Nosso álbum anterior foi um convite a colocarmo-nos “do outro lado” – on the other side.

Sometimes, when the way ahead is unclear, all that is needed is a small act of love to give us the light to move forward. Just like those bikes with dynamo-powered lights that work as long as you keep peddling, if we set love in motion we’ll have the light to see the way ahead for us and for others. Just got to turn it on!

FROMTHEINSIDEOUTSIDE

It’s a dark night today Feels like the sun keeps getting further awayHas the earth lost its way?Or maybe nothing has changedGot the blindfolds onAll the lines are drawnGot the bricks to block our viewNow our backs are turnedNothing left to learnHow do we get through?

There’s a light withinIt’s been there all alongThere’s a light withinJust got to turn it on

From the inside outsideWe can make it shineLike a beacon burning through the nightFrom the inside outsideShining in our eyesIt’s a beauty we should never hideFrom the inside outsideFrom the inside outside

Inside, outside

On a dark lonely road As I ride on I feel the wind chill my bonesWhile I breathe with the beat The rhythm’s under my feetWhen the twilight fadesI can see my way If I just keep moving onCause the dynamo’s In my heart and soulIt will lead me home

There’s a light withinIt’s been there all alongThere’s a light withinJust got to turn it on

From the inside outside...

We are starsBlazing through the universeWe’re an endless constellation Here on earth

Inside, outsideInside, outsideFrom the inside outsideWe can make it shineLike a beacon burning through the nightFrom the inside outsideShining in our eyesIt’s a beauty we should never hideIt’s in you, it’s in meIt’s the gift we can beIt’s what keeps us all aliveFrom the inside outsideFrom the inside From the… inside outsideFrom the… inside outsideFrom the… inside outsideFrom the… inside outside

The issues surrounding the phenomenon of migration are complex and give rise to strong feelings. We too suffer for the deepening divisions between our countries, and for the growing polarization they create. In writing this song together, we wanted to share our experience of how things can be different. Inspired as well by our friends on both sides of the Mexico-U.S. border who try to walk the path of peace every day, we’d like this song to be a step on that journey together towards a common ground of mutual understanding.Adri (Mexico) & Nancy (U.S.A.)

OUR COMMON GROUND

Here in the desert on both sides of the borderlineWe all wake up to the same beauty of the mountainsWinds of suspicion, fears of losing what is mineBurn like the sands around us, tearing us apartI am the wall, I am the Dreamer, I am freedomI am the agent, I’m the tears of a childwho needs a home

I am the journey, I am justice,I am hope Soy las patronas, la esperanza

Abriré mi corazón Veré que humanos somos tú y yoOpen hearts, teach us howTo walk in peace together Once we’ve foundOur common groundTierra de paz

Here’s what the border sees Hear what the border says

When we stop thinking who’s to blame We’ll understand each other’s painSin dar la culpa a los demásQuiero hacer mías tus lágrimas

I am the journey, I am justice,I am hope Yo soy un sueño, la esperanza

We are the path and we are peace,we are the place

Mi corazón...We are one family, we are fiesta, we are faith

Our common ground, tierra de paz

land of peace

I’VEGOT HOPE

In the heart of a mother fighting for her childIn the gaze of a migrant out at seaIn the girl whose poverty can’t steal her smileIn the tears of a friend who cries with me

There’s a ray of light that knowsThe frozen earth will awakenIt says: I believe the springtime will come

‘Cause I’ve got hope, hopeOh, oh, I’ve got hopeIt’s a light that’ll never dieI’ve got hope, hopeOh, oh, I’ve got hopeI won’t give in, won’t give up the fight

Every seed has the power within to make it growIn every death there’s a promise of new lifeThere’s a longing in our hearts to reach our homeFor a star to guide us through the night

In the darkness is the lightAnd in the stillness the dancingIf I keep believing when I can’t see

‘Cause I’ve got hope...

I won’t surrender to the darknessI will stand my ground and believe My own worst enemy is inside me If I trust in Love I will be free No, I won’t be afraid to dreamDream of all the things I know life can be

‘Cause I’ve got hope...

I won’t surrender...

‘Cause I’ve got hope, hopeI’ve got hope, hope

What would happen if in every corner of the world we were all to truly meet each other and walk together, going beyond our limits and differences, beyond what’s yours or mine, beyond all borders?

Where the ocean meets the sand We’ll build castles with our handsWhere the sunlight meets the rainWe’ll see coloursI know you are not meYou have your own storyBut if I make yours mineWe’ll see the whole world shine

We’ll be a wave of loveThere on the borderlineA tidal wave of loveWe can be a wave of loveThere on the borderlineWe’ll be a wave of love

Wave of love, wave

Where the mountains touch the skyWhere the watershed dividesThe horizon stretches outNever-endingThe road is steep and longTogether we are strongAnd if we walk as oneThe revolution has begun

We’ll be a wave of love..

Where the waters freely flowA new life will surely grow

While visiting a huge casino in Macau, I felt incredibly sad seeing the people there risking all they had in the hope of making an improbable fortune. I couldn’t find a single happy face in the place: only empty, angry stares. One young man in particular caught my attention. I still remember him sitting there in front of a slot machine, his eyes fixed on the screen, his mouth half open. Who knows what he hopes and dreams for his life, I thought...In writing this song, my wish is that no one may waste away their life saying “Just one last time...”Colomba (S. Korea)

Here inside this room It seems like time doesn’t passWhen I come I feel I’ve got to stay here foreverThen after awhile When I wake up from my tranceSuddenly I see who I’ve become

Just one last time

This place is fascinatingIt’s truly captivatingIt’s got a hold on meWhen I see the symbols spinningI think I must be winningToday I might just make a fortuneJust one last time

Just one last time, one last timeWish I could break away from this golden cage inside of meJust one last time, one last timeDeep down I’m only longing to be freeJust one last time

Each time I start my playingDeep in my heart I’m prayingThis’ll be my lucky dayIf there is one thing I knowI won’t come back tomorrow

I promise this will be the last timeJust one last time

I look in the mirror Under shimmering lightStaring back at me The tired gaze of a loserEven if I close my eyes I know I can’t hideAs I see my future slip away

Just one last time, one last timeWish I could break away From this golden cage inside of meJust one last time, one last timeDeep down I’m only longing to be free

Just one last timeI’m so alone and broken In this golden cage inside of meJust one last time, one last time Why do I keep on saying it again?

Funny how even when I winI feel an emptiness withinYet in that place of nothingnessMy true happinessMay just be behind that door I know there must be something more

¡Ama! ¡Vive!

COMO LLUVIA SUAVElike gentle rain

COMOLLUVIaSUaVE

In the midst of a sea of suffering,There’s only desperation,Drowned by a muted cryOf indifference.Where is innocence? And why does violence win?I still believeThere must be a way out.

I will quench the thirst of my landI will water it everyday,With love.

Like a gentle rain, fine and constantLet’s shower our land with opportunities.Like gentle rain, we'll keep goingHolding our heads high We'll sow the seeds of love

There’s still time to changeAnd I know there’s no peace without forgiveness:If we are reconciled in truthWounds can be healed I know the oppressors won’t have the last word, and love in our lives is the greatest justice.

I will quench the thirst of my land... Like a gentle rain...

When weariness and apathy make us want to give up,When they overwhelm us and bring us downLet’s remember the better times, times of smiles and friendship despite the difficulties.Step by step let’s walk together with perseverance, I see that joy In your eyes too,Let me tell you something:Dream, laugh, love, live.

I will quench the thirst of my land... Like a gentle rain...

Dream, laugh, love, live.

Latin America: a land rich in values but which is caught up in a downward spiral of violence and indifference, where peace seems like a distant dream and forgiveness an illusion. It is true, a single drop will not eradicate drought, but walking together, animating all we do with love, we can give our land the hope of peace it needs.

Tu vivi in me...

Tu vivi in me...

SEILaMIaFELICITà

My life is like an enchanted journeyAnd I want to live it to the full In every moment I haveThe pain has arrived and it pierces my heart But the light in me does not dieBecause, you, God are beside me,Always here

You live in meAnd I want to say another YES to youWhatever happens to meIs a sign of your loveYou are LightAnd you shine inside and outside of me,You are my happiness

I won’t flee from the pain when it comes Because I see you thereYou experienced it like meAs time passes slowlyNot a single heartbeat or breath will be lostBut each will be full of lightIf I love

You live in me…

I have lost everythingBut I still have a heart so I can loveEven if I can't move, my spirit runs free

You live in me…

You are my happiness.

Whatever happens to meIs a sign of your loveYou are LightAnd you shine inside and outside of me,You are my happiness. You are my happiness.

When suffering comes, under the guise of illness or difficulties of any kind, we need to believe, even when we cannot see, so as to avoid being crushed by it. In this song there is the story of one of us. It is the story of an illness, of pain lived in a relationship of love with God which has been transformed into Strength, Light, Happiness. It is dedicated to all those who are called to travel the road of suffering.

You’re my happiness

Today, where one’s physical appearance often seems to be the only thing that matters, we ourselves ask what real beauty is. Why do I have to “improve myself” in order to fit inside the “frame” that society decides to create for me? Why do we give more importance to our image than to inner beauty? In this world of “lookism”, we want to cry out to everyone:“You’re beautiful just as you are, precious just the way you are!”Clari, Bea and Colomba (S. Korea)

You are beautiful as you are, you are precious as you are. You are beautiful as you are, you are precious as you are.

The world tells you to be like a beautiful box.It doesn’t matter what’s inside. They want you to be that box of the colour and the size they want.If you do that, they will choose you.

Nobody asks you what you really want,What you’re really looking for. They tell you everything is gonna be alright if you beco-me like everybody else, and if you do what everybody else does.

Who are you, where are you?Don’t wipe out who you are In order to become someone else.Who are you, where are you?Don’t cancel out yourself.Look for that “you” that you’ve lost. You are beautiful as you are.You are precious as you are.You are beautiful as you are.You are precious as you are.

The world tells you to become a doll.It doesn’t matter what you really think.Make your eyes, nose and mouth as they want.If you do that, they will choose you.

They tell you to stop trying,to give up on patience, and they say inner beauty is useless. No need to think too much.

The things you really think, the things you dream, all the things you’ve livedare what make you who you are.Love yourself as you are. There's no one else like you in the world,You are beautiful as you are,You are precious as you are.

Who are you, where are you?...

You are beautiful as you are....

I feel an emptiness inside meOnce again it all ends this way…Just a second and then Another fix and that's how it ends.

I try to open my eyesBut I’m so scared.Looking for freedomI’ve fallen into darkness

Who has robbed me of my soul?I don’t know who I am anymore.Who has switched the light off in me? I cry non-stop! How will it end?Take me away from here!

I can’t get up on my own.I wish I had the strength to fight. My silence cries out loudIt’s hard to bear

I want to go back homeI’ve had enough of this madnessI’m scared even of myselfAnd I inject an illusion into my veins

Who has robbed me of my soul?I don’t know who I am anymore.Who has switched the light off in me? I cry non-stop! How will it end?Take me away from here!

I don’t want to live in sorrow anymore.I've tattooed great hope onto my skinI swear I’ll resist!I'll run tilI I take flight!

My soul, who has stolen it? Help me stand up, I want to walk

I don’t know who I am anymoreHow can I turn back on the light in my eyes?I run ‘til I take flight!

My light, who has turned it off? I want to believe, even without seeing! I want to break free from everything and start over! I cry non-stop! I'll run tilI I take flight!

How is it gonna end?Take me away from here!

Who has robbed me of my soul?I don’t know who I am anymore.Who has switched the light off in me? I cry non-stop! How will it end?Take me away from here!

I'll run tilI I take flight!I'll run tilI I take flight!

Tre piccole, grandi storie vere in tre diversi continenti.

Three small but great true stories in three different continents. At the heart of each story lies a fundamental choice: love, as a way of life, going beyond racism, injustice, bullying. Just like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. whose words are quoted in the chorus of this song and who reminds us through the example of his life that only love can overcome hatred.

Darkness cannot drive out the darkness...

I work as a waitress in a coffee shop in Virginia, t And when I serve I really put my heart into all I do.One day I gave a customer his billand he wrote on it:"We don't tip black people."

(I thought) Be careful: With your own words you are hurting yourself:The wall of your contemptwill never stop me.And if you come back I'll welcome you againbecause love is stronger. One day you'll understand

Darkness cannot drive out the darknessDarkness can't win over the darkness Only light can do thatOnly light, only light can Hatred cannot drive out the hatredAnd hatred can't win over cruelty Only love can do thatOnly love, only love can do that

I was just a childliving in a big city in the Philippineswhen the terrible news arrived:my father had been killed for no reason. And I knew who his killer was.

As time went on,the bitterness in my heart grew:the desire for revenge was killing meuntil the day that I decided to forgive. Now I am strongerAnd I am free!

Darkness cannot drive out the darkness...

Every day as I walked along the corridors in school,my eyes downcast, I felt so alone in the crowd.I could feel all the angerof the members of the gang who think they're strongwho try to crush you with their arrogance and liesand tell you you’d be better off dead.Humiliated by strangers onlineI just wanted to disappear, Convinced I was worthless.

So many tears shed in silent shame,Trapped, with no way out,But now I get it - You hide, So maybe you're the one who really needs help. It's true, hatred can knock me down, but I can rise from the dustand fear will never overcomemy desire to love.

Darkness cannot drive out the darkness...

You didn’t know, like a pen that doesn’t know what it will write,You didn't know where God was taking you:you were an instrument in his hands.

Everything was crumbling. While the bombs shattered your dreamsa light in your heartrevealed God’s dream.

You were looking further. You chose a true ideal:Infinite love, good that wins over evil,Love that never dies. You were looking further. You embraced the whole world,And each moment, each step, each breathWas for that dream:That they may be one,May they be one,May they be one.

Your secretwas in that anguished face that cries out “why”.In his gaze you foundThe suffering of humanity.

God was guiding youBeyond unimagined horizons, beyond limitsTo bring into the worldHope of peace and unity.

You were looking further...

Beyond, beyond all barriersBeyond, beyond all frontiersMay they be oneMay they be one

Chiara Lubich let the Gospel revolutionize her life and her greatest dream is ours too: "May all be one" (Jn 17:21). It's a dream that has become a way of life for each of us, urging us to reach out to many, many people all over the world, without limits.

May they be one

Crazy idea

It’s a crazy idea:we can take these bricks that make up the walls and build bridges with them

I had a strange dream, I want to tell you about it:I was no longer afraid to dare.Everything seemed safe.I saw walls being transformed into bridges.Believe me!

To see barriers collapse We just need to do good,We need to dream of a new horizonCome with me, come. With courage we can overcome all difficultiesAlways going far ahead and beyond. We can go out to everyone and do good.

It’s a crazy idea It’s a little bit insane,But if there are many of us the world can change. It’s a crazy idea A little bit insane,With the bricks from the wall bridges can be built.

Le, le, le...

To make this dream come trueAnd transform everything It’s enough to want it and to start,To draw someone else into this dreamAnd walk all togetherLooking always far ahead and beyondAnd to build many bridgesTo bring “good” to everyone.

It’s a crazy idea It’s a little bit insane,But if there are many of us the world can change. It’s a crazy idea A little bit insane,With the bricks from the wall bridges can be built.

It’s a crazy idea It’s a little bit insane,But if there are many of us the world can change. It’s a crazy idea A little bit insane,From a pure smile bridges can be born.

Le, le, le...

It’s a crazy idea!

TURNITUP

The spark that gave life to Gen Verde was something unusual not so much because of the green drum kit but the wish that came with it… “to make a lot of noise”. That spark sped off, reaching all corners of the world and touching countless lives. That message is just as relevant today as it was when it all began in 1966. So let’s stand up, wherever we are, and turn up the volume of unity.

In the middle of a mixed-up worldFeeling like we’re going round in circlesEmpty promises and empty wordsLeave us hungering for something real

Must be a way to rise above the noiseThings will never change if we stay silentWe can find a way to fill the voidBuild the world of peace we want to see

Now is the time to let the truth come outWhat we need is a voiceTogether we can be a blast of sound

If we stand, if we stand by our choice

Turn it up, turn it upWe’re gonna stand up For what we believe inTurn it up, turn it upIt’s time to wake upAnd fight for our dreamsTurn it up, turn it upWe’ll never give up:Our hope has a reasonTurn it up, turn it upTurn it up, turn it up, Turn it up, up, up, up

People put up their invisible wallsKeeping out the others from their circlesThe more the barrier is strong and tallThe more they build a prison for themselves

But there’s a way to burn the barriers downAll it takes is a sparkWe’ll see the fire spreading all aroundMaking way, making way through the dark

Turn it up, turn it up...

We will rise above all the noise, above the confusionWe will speak, we’ll lift up our voice and make a differenceWe will shine, we’ll burn like a flame that lights up the darknessWe will stand together as one As one we’ll sing:

Turn it up, turn it up...
