PREFACE

At Fritz Hansen we are proud to be represented in many of the architectural wonders and some of the most beautiful buildings of the world. Architects have always been, and continue to be, an essential part of the history of Fritz Hansen. And we are constantly doing our best to renew ourselves and to find new shapes and materials that we hope will inspire architects today and many years ahead.

At Fritz Hansen we have, as this book’s many examples will show, furniture to suit virtually any building in any culture, regardless of the function of the building. Business, Culture and Hospitality – Fritz Hansen furniture are making statements in all industries covering both aesthetical and functional needs.

We hope you will be inspired by this architectural tour of a world furnished by Fritz Hansen.

BANg & OLuFsEN HEADquARTERs

The Bang & Olufsen headquarters is a minimalist yet poetic building that articulates the gentle nuances of the surrounding landscape. Poul kjærholm’s Pk22s and Arne Jacobsen’s series 7 have been chosen to add warm notes and a human touch to the minimalism of the building.

Bang & Olufsen has a long history of elegant, user-friendly design and the task of kHR Architects was to project these values into the new corporate headquarters. The result is an architectural fantasy of what a Bang & Olufsen television set might look like if it were a building. The series 7 and Pk22s look like they were made exclusively for the place - as they show how the simplest shapes possible can sometimes be the best images of human warmth.

THE NATIONAL ART CENTER

The National Art Center in Tokyo shows great exhibitions of contemporary art. It is also a contemporary museum in the sense that the art is part of a bigger picture of beautiful spaces and great dining. A selection of Fritz Hansen’s greatest classics have been chosen to create a variety of spaces for resting, dining and socializing.

There are more than 800 Fritz Hansen chairs in The National Art Center. Arne Jacobsen’s series 7 in dark natural leather in the restaurant show how furniture can create a zone of calming luxury in a grand futuristic space. kasper salto’s Ice chairs call for a more informal snack break while Poul kjærholm’s Pk80s are discreet podiums for the tired art lover. The choice of furniture creates a variety of comfort zones in the bravely futuristic building.

CLARION HOTEL sIgN

At the end of the 1950s, Arne Jacobsen designed the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen and every detail of it from facade to furniture. Today, 50 years later, the Clarion Hotel sign in stockholm is another feat of scandinavian design. This time around Jacobsen’s great classics like the Egg and the swan designed specifically for the Royal Hotel are in the company of a stellar parade of scandinavian designers. Clarion Hotel sign is the largest hotel in stockholm and a tribute to scandinavian modern design. swedish architect gert Wingårdh has created a poignant modern shape for the top-notch hotel and conference facilities that exude scandinavian elegance down to the smallest detail. Arne Jacobsen’s series 7, the Lily and morten Voss’ Attitude lend their elegance to the restaurant and executive conference rooms.
