Freelance Wizard 9.5/xWhat is Freelance Wizard?

Freelance Wizard helps to build quotations and bids for the products available within the Freelance product family.

It is intended to be used by ABB internals but also ABB internals but also external sales force (Channel Partner) or even the end user.

This presentation provides information about:

Automatic selection of components with Project Wizard using predefined masks

Examples how to create a new project

Explanation of menu commands of Wizard software with focus on most important functions focus on most important functions

View of ready made projects in the Tree-view-bar

Explanations of property windows for all products

Creation of an order file with the program part “Manual Selection”


Freelance Wizard 9.5/xCreate or edit a project

Click the “New” button to create or edit a project.



Create a new project with the “Wizard” button.

The wizard guides thru the configuration of the Freelance system system architecture and helps to select the required components.



“Quick spec” to select parts manually.

This will provide the Freelance price books in a table to pick individual components.components.Quick Spec provides some intelligence to order the parts correctly but will not helpto put a complete Freelance system together

Recommended for users who are already familiar working with Freelance.



“Template” opens a folder with stored projects of the Freelance system.

User can change and redesign the redesign the quotations.



The button “Empty project” opens an empty project.

User jumps directly to an empty tree-view of the Wizard program. program.

The tree-view allows the use of the right mouse button for selection of further functions.


Freelance Wizard 9.5/xChoose Controllers

Choose working with the AC 700F and/or AC 800F controller.

This window begins the automatic selection of the Freelance system Freelance system components.

The controllers will be specified later on, using the properties.


Freelance Wizard 9.5/xChoose operation system

A click on the drop down menu offers the different families of operation.

DigiVis is the Operator station of Freelance.

Note, that 800xA Operations (PPA) requires advanced I/O.


Freelance Wizard 9.5/xSpecify controller application

Choose from light to heavy application.

An explaining text is shown underneath for each choice with information about how many about how many I/Os the currently selected application can handle.

The selected application level can be changed later on.


Freelance Wizard 9.5/xProcess areas

Create a process area for each selected controller.

To create a process area, check the marked box.

Process areas define physical or logical plant areas specified by the customer.



This field contains process areas created for the current controller.

Rename an area by clicking on it.on it.

The process areas names are specified by customers. It is recommended to use real plant identifiers.



To change positions of process areas use the “Move up” and “Move down” button.

These buttons are disabled with just one with just one created process area.



Add a new process area with the “Add area” button.

The added area appears in the list of process areas.

To delete an existing area, mark it and press the “Delete area” button afterwards.



The “Design area” button opens a new window to specify I/O components for the controller.

Working with more than one more than one process area leads back to this page after designing of the selected area.

This step will be repeated until all areas are designed.


Freelance Wizard 9.5/xDesign a process area for AC 700F

Activate “S700 Direct I/O connect” to work with I/Os mounted direct on the AC 700F controller.

Choose the second second checkbox to use S700, S800 or S900 Remote I/O systems via Profibus.

Optionally distribute Profibus on all AC 700F controllers evenly.



Specify the amount of AC 700F direct I/O channels.

Note, that the information about available modules is visible, when visible, when the mouse cursor is placed over the description.

Choose the termination unit:Spring and screw terminals are available.

AC 700F I/O modules can use spring or screw Terminals.



Choose between the tabs for S700 / S800 / S900 for the selection of Profibus RIO.

The selection rules and information hints information hints are implemented in the same way, like before.



The selection of S800 and S900 I/O’s includes 4 columns.

I/O type and I/O channel can be selected.

The termination The termination unit column includes the right type of termination unit, compact Box and Field Housings.

Afterwards in the next selection window the spare parts can be defined.



Choose „Serial Package“, if you want to connect Modbus or other available serial communication busses.

Enter all fieldbusses I/O’s fieldbusses I/O’s connected to the controller in the provided box.

Check PID self tune to enable the use of self tune function block in the controller.



Remember: Freelance Wizard will try to use as few controllers as possible.

Check „Select controllers manually“ if you want to adjust want to adjust the amount of controllers according to the project needs.

The “DigiSize” button provides an excel sheet to estimate the load of the controllers.



Designing principals of a process area for an AC 800F are the same as for an AC 700F controller.



Choose between the tabs for S700 / S800 / S900 for the selection of Profibus RIO, as before.



Choose the kind of CPU size.

Available:PM802 4MbytePM803 16Mbyte

Select a power supply module which is part of which is part of the AC 800F controller.

Note, that an extra power supply may be required to get 24 V/DC or 115/230 V/AC for the Freelance system.



Enable the “Use redundant CPU’s” to get redundant controller.



Choose „Serial Package“, if you want to connect Modbus or other available serial communication busses.

Enter all fieldbusses I/O’s


fieldbusses I/O’s connected to the controller in the provided box.

Check PID self tune to enable the use of self tune function block in the controller.


Choose “Sequence of events” to use time stamps on I/O level.

Note, that this function is only available with Rack I/O.Rack I/O.



This option adds the TeleMetric protocol according to IEC 60870-5-101 to your project.

This enables the use of the use of the corresponding function blocks to communicate to the IEC Devices connected to a serial communication module FI 820F



Remember: Freelance Wizard will try to use as few controllers as possible.

Freelance Wizard 9.5/xSoftware design - Workplaces with Operator station

Specify the amount of DigiVis operator stations for the project and choose the program language.



Enable “Combi-station” to run DigiVis and Control Builder F on the same PC.

This not only safes a PC and hardkey but also will give you a will give you a price reduction for DigiVis.

Note, that during download to the DigiVis station thru CBF, DigiVis is not accessible and thus the system cannot be operated. This might be an annoyance if this is the only DigiVis operator station



Enable “WEB display runtime” to get an extended interface for the operator station.

The Web display allows to run 3rd party run 3rd party programs like Excel, or a surveillance camera in a dedicated display, maintaining the visibility of the alarm line and limitations to access the PC operating system.



Enable “Dual monitor support” to work simultaneously on 2 monitors, connected to the computer.

Note, that the PC graphic card PC graphic card needs 2 ports to connect 2 monitors.



The “Control aspect” adds the ability to monitor the execution of the control code in the operator station (i.e. DigiVis).Is also known Is also known as CBF Viewer light.

Control aspect requires a Trend and/or an OPC server.



Enable “Extended diagnostic” for use of diagnosis information of HART and Profibus field devices.

This enables to This enables to open DTMs or Templates of connected Profibus, Foundation Fieldbus or HART devices in one dedicated DigiVis operator station.



Enable “DigiBrowse” to view archived trends.

It can be used to view these exported trend files offline or to convert them convert them into CSV format.

DigiBrowse can run on any PC.

It does not to be connected to the Freelance network.

It does not require a hardkey


Freelance Wizard 9.5/xSoftware design - Workplaces with Engineering station

Specify the language of the engineering station.

Even if working with a “Combi-Station” its possible to select 2 different select 2 different languages for the operator and the engineering station.



“Security lock” is a optional software package recommended if the operator station is used by many different people.

16 different groups with up to 1000 users can be generated.

These groups may have different access rights.



Freelance contains standard function blocks.

Enable to build own function blocks (user defined function block).

Function blocks in Freelance canbe supplemented by user-defined function blocks (UFB). These user function blocks areconfigured in the same way as programs and are displayed as function blocks.



Enable “FDT/DTM support” if you have DTMs for your HART or Profibus field devices available.

The DTM The DTM technology allows easy configuration and diagnostic of connected field devices.

Note, that providing DTM libraries are responsibility of the supplier.


Freelance Wizard 9.5/xSoftware design - Workplaces with Data servers

Data servers provide connectivity to the 3rd party systems e.g. SCADA, PIMS etc.

Note, that Freelance does Freelance does not require any Data Servers to operate.

A trend serveris required to create operator defined trend displays. It is a read-only OPC server.


Freelance Wizard 9.5/xLicensing

Freelance Wizard calculates the amount of controllers and I/Os to license.

Verify how many of the I/Os are I/Os are external (serial package).

Change these values by enabling the box “Select manually”.


Freelance Wizard 9.5/xProject data

After finishing of the creation of your project , the project data window pops up.

Enter project data and use the tabs for the tabs for navigation.



Enter customer information here.

Note, that there is a database, which will be filled with this data for repetitive use.repetitive use.This database can import datasets.



The “Filter” menu selects categories information of the catalog files.

The columns show an unique ID, a name and a time validation a time validation period of each catalog.

In the column “Version” the catalogs marked with the star is the most recent and valid price book.



Specify various discount levels for different customers.

Use the filter drop down menu to select which catalogs to be shown.to be shown.



Enter special agreements for specific items.

Note, that is for ABB’s internal use only.

Use the drop down menu to down menu to select a price list and choose an item number.

Note, that this tab is only visible if “Show FP” is activated (Tools/Settings/Prices).



Specify the cabinet layout and the power supply in this tab.

Note, this function is available only for the S800 for the S800 IO-family.

Field Housings can be selected for S900, see S900 TU921x properties.



Enter all order information, customer name and shipping address.



Enter any extra information which might be important for the order.


Freelance Wizard 9.5/xMenu - Check order quantities

Press “Check order quantities” to get the information if the selected components running out of order limits.


Freelance Wizard 9.5/xMenu - Generate documents

“Generate documents” opens a new window where different documents kinds for the current project can be selected.



Enable different boxes to generate multiple documents at once.

Note, that Microsoft Office is required to is required to view these documents.

These documents can be used for the proposal to the end customer.The templates can be customized.



Open existing documents via the “Open previous document” tab.


Freelance Wizard 9.5/xMenu - DigiSize

The “DigiSize” button provides an excel sheet with detailed load information.

Note, that Microsoft Excel is required to is required to run DigiSize.


Freelance Wizard 9.5/xMenu - Settings

Clicking on “Tools” and “Settings” opens the settings window.

Use the tabs to navigate.

“User” specifies “User” specifies Wizard user information, which are going to be included later into the quotation



Choose a Domino server and enter user name and password.

An established connection to a Lotus Note BU pricing data pricing data base allows to check and download Wizard product price lists.

Note, this is ABB's Internal only.



Change of directory for the catalogs is possible.



Change the directories of the project, profiles and the default location of generated documents.

Change any by browsing to an browsing to an other folder via the “Browse…” button.



Change the location of private and default templates.



Change the location of contacts file, system data, application definitions and cabinet templates.



In the tab “Defaults” change the predefined quotation name, which is used as default file name.

E.g. replace E.g. replace ISSUER with your Initials or your Dept. Code.



These options have influence to the information bar at the bottom of the main window.

Checking “Show FP and Special FP and Special agreement” adds an extra tab to the property window of your project.



Specify general program behaviour in the “Program” tab.


Freelance Wizard 9.5/xMenu – Check version

“Check version” verifies if the current wizard version is the latest one and automatically update it if necessary.

Note, that an Note, that an internet connection is required for this function.

Perform a “Check version” every couple of weeks or if a new version is available to automatically update your wizard.

These buttons are links providing more information about the Freelance system and corresponding items.

Note, that an internet connection is required for this function.

Note, those links change frequently with new versions.


Freelance Wizard 9.5/xTree-view-bar

On the left hand side there is a tree-view-bar of the whole project.

To expand it click on the “+”, or click on “View” and then “View” and then “Expand all”.



Add items to the project with icons are shown as product tool buttons (the same can be done with right mouse button).

All added parts All added parts appear in the tree-view-bar below the project.



Pressing this button will open a new window with properties for the current highlighted item.



“Aspect” includes different views.

The view “product documents” allows downloading data sheets, data sheets, catalogs etc.

Note, that an internet or intranet connection is required to view different types of documents.

Choose properties of “Control Network” to set the network type and to select a redundant network connection.


Freelance Wizard 9.5/xProperties of PC

Choose properties of a “PC” to specify how the computer is linked to the network or to connect the computer to an other network other network as well.

Use the “Type of PC” menu to select a different picture for the PC.

There is no link implemented to any price book.


Freelance Wizard 9.5/xProperties of Control Builder F

Choose properties of “Control Builder F” to specify the configuration of engineering station.

Choose a hardkey (dongle) (dongle) depending on the available ports at the PC.

Select a media package to install.

Choose between basic and advanced control packaging of licensing. Advance control is required for 800xA connect.

Specify which kind of optional software to install on the DigiVis station.

Set the language for “DigiBrowse” and choose which kind of media package to install.

Select a data server.


Freelance Wizard 9.5/xProperties of Process area

Modify the application type by checking the box and then choosing the application size in the drop down menu.

Change of Change of application can select different CPU.

Specify details for an AC 700F controller.

Select redundant or single power supply.

Add items like a Add items like a battery or a wall mounting kit to the order.

In the “General data” tab of S700 properties you get an overview of the used I/O modules.

Add or delete modules or modules or modify an existing module or termination unit by using the drop down menu.

Modify each chosen module and/or termination unit.

Verify or change how many I/O channels are used or reserved as reserved as spare channels.

Select redundancy of the Profibus segment network.

RLM01 devices are required for Freelance redundant redundant Profibus segment



With the right mouse click on Profibus node 3td party device can be connected.

Profibus PA devices can be selected using selected using the function of “Pepperl+Fuchs Profibus PA”.



Profibus PA devices are provided by Pepperl+Fuchs.

Specify power supply, redundancy and further options for the power hub the power hub station.

Note, that all product information are available in “Aspect” and “product documents”.

Note, that P+F components can be printed out using “Generate documents” function.



Change specific I/O modules and/or termination units using the drop down menus.



Adjust the percentage of spare I/O channels.

Note, this has influence to all modules belonging to the selected S900.selected S900.


Freelance Wizard 9.5/xProperties of S900 TU921S

Select between Termination Unit or Compact Box or Field Housings.

For special design of Field Housings click on the button on the button “Voith Ermo Field Housings”

Note, that this option requires an internet connection.


Freelance Wizard 9.5/xProperties of AC 800F

Set different options for the AC 800F controller.

Change the CPU type or the link to the network with the specific drop specific drop down menus.

Add optional software or change the power supply if required.


Freelance Wizard 9.5/xProperties of FF connection

Right click on an AC 800F to insert a new communication network.

A new window pops up to select the kind of network type.of network type.



Add a H1 group to a FOUNDATION Fieldbus link.



Add different devices using the “Add device” button.

Insert the Qty of FF devices.

After OK Wizard calculates calculates automatically the Qty of needed linking devices.



The added H1 group devices appear in the project overview.

The calculated Linking Devices LD 800HSE are shown in the shown in the project overview.

For 3rd party I/O channels and for any added serial packages use the “Add I/O channel” button.


Freelance Wizard 9.5/xConvert to manual selection

This function converts the current project to a manual selection project while the current one remains unaltered.

This function is This function is required before the Edi-file for ordering can be created or export/transfer to BOL can be done.


Freelance Wizard 9.5/xManual Selection

The conversion of the project opens a new Wizard program part, called “manual selection”

Double click on items in the tree-view-bar opens the view-bar opens the property “Manual selection” window.

“Item-by-Item” is recommended for change of orders in the selected price list.

Only S900 uses “local assembly” for ordering of parts without any limitation rules.

In the tab “Items” you can manually add items or change quantities.

Changes are going to be verified by Wizard Wizard program.

Note, that items which require change are highlighted in red.

The validation messages at the bottom will tell you how to fix the problem


Freelance Wizard 9.5/xExport to order module

The “export to order module” function opens an additional Wizard program called order module. This program generates the Wizard order Wizard order Edi-file.

Note, that this program shell be installed separately and can be download from the BU pricing data base.

The “export to BusinessOnLine” function copies the selected price list items into the windows clipboard.Afterwards they can be inserted into the BOL into the BOL ordering tool.

Go to the specific BOL tool (website) and paste the selected price list items.
