Diary Welcome to Week 5 of Term 3.

A tough week for our mighty Dolphins who went down to Kempsey West on Wednesday

in the PSSA State Rugby League Knockout. The boys tried their very best but in the end

lacked a little size. What they lacked in size they more than made up for in effort and we

were very proud of them regardless of the result. We now look forward to our NRL State

Finals in Sydney on the 23rd August. The girls will also be in attendance at these finals,

they are playing on the 24th.

Our school’s best spellers went head to head in the school spelling bee on Thursday. Mrs

Coulter has done an outstanding job organising our participation in this event. Congratu-

lations to Shayla Colb, Lucy smith, Oliver Collins and Joshua Jacob Harju. These represent-

atives will be taking on the region’s best on Friday 15th September. I am sure that they

will do us proud.

On Friday several of our best athletes competed in the MNC athletics in Coffs Harbour.

The competition at this level is quite high so all representatives should take great pride in

their efforts, regardless of the results. Well done to Will Cohen and Sharaiah Ridgeway,

who made it through to Regional.

Our school athletics champions were Daniel McEvoy, Lacey Wilson, Declan Rigby, Yolanda

Jones, Izzy Salway, Corey Cross, Tarran Jarrett Marks, Kyan Jarrett Marks, Jaynarleeya

Munro, Shania Davis and Fiona Holloway.

Our Year 6 students spent the day at NHHS on Friday and reported having a great time.

The day was action packed and has certainly opened their eyes in regards to what to ex-

pect next year when they move on from our school into year 7.

Week 5 is looking like a wonderful week. We have a practicum teacher on SCB for several

weeks. Tori Page will be working with Ms Baker and her boys and developing her skills as

she moves towards the completion of her teaching degree. I am sure that she will have a

great time working with this incredible class.

Today our girls’ softball team headed up to Brunswick Heads with Mrs Smith, Mrs Leahy

and Luke. This is the next round in the PSSA Knockout and the team has been busy prac-

ticing in their lunch breaks for several weeks now. I am sure that they had a great day!

Thursday will see our legendary debaters back in action against Stuarts Point. Mrs Leahy

has the team cracking along and they are sure to give a good account of themselves. For

this debate we will have Beau as first speaker, Lucy as second speaker and Angus as third

speaker. Our 4th team member will be Mia. Best of luck to all involved.

Tournament of Minds

The countdown to Tournament of Minds competition is on! Teams have been working very hard before school, at lunch and recess and in afternoon training sessions. The final timetable has been released and we have some stiff competition, but it reflects the level our children are prepared and capable of per-forming in. The Social Science Team “Inspire”, is competing against 11 other schools in the district and the Engineering and Maths Team “One Way Ticket” will also be competing against 11 teams.

It’s great that we have an increase in the number of parents and caregivers attending the completion this year. Your children have worked hard and respond incredibly to your demonstration of pride in their ac-complishments. If your child has been interested in the activities of the TOMS teams, they may wish to attend the day. Anyone can view any of the schools performances where some of the brightest minds of the future show their solutions to some pretty tricky problems.

The completion takes place on Sunday 27th August at Hastings Secondary College Westport Campus 16 Findlay Ave, Port Macquarie. Good luck teams!

Friday will see us rounding off the week with another PSSA Knockout game, this time in the boys Basket-

ball PSSA competition. Ms Baker’s team is really beginning to gel and they are looking forward to taking

on the might of Coffs Harbour. Their team work and ‘never say die’ attitude is a real credit to them and

their team culture. I look forward to watching them do their stuff down at the high school hall at 1:00pm.

Please feel free to come on down and cheer the boys on!

Have a great week everyone.

Todd.

Excursion Payments

The Stage 3 Excursion to Sydney is fast approaching. As we are transitioning to our new finance system soon, it would be appreciated if all payments for this excursion could be finalised by THIS FRIDAY, 18th August. You can make cash payments at the Front Office, or online using the POP payment system. Just log in to our website and click on the “make a payment button” and follow the prompts. If you have any issues finalising this payment please call Mr Potter as soon as possible. Thankyou also to all the parents who are making payments towards the Stage 2 Excursion. As this excur-sion does not take place until Term 4 we have a little more time to finalise the payments for it. Please keep in mind that there is a transaction free period from 23rd August until after we ‘Go Live’ early in September. We will still keep taking your payments towards any upcoming excursions, but we will not be able to issue official receipts until after we are up and running. Thank you for your cooperation as we adjust to this whole new system.

Book Parade

The new date for our Book Parade is Friday 25th August. We hope to see some amazing costumes on the

day!

Last Thursday Jachar, Warrick, Richard, Lacey, Holly, Amanda and Drew went to the High

Ropes Course at the high school with Mr Lambert. These kids showed great support to

each other and overcame their fears. What an amazing effort!

Stage 2 Girls’ Group attended their very own Mad Hatters High Tea in Week 3. Here the girls sipped on

warm milos, decorated biscuits and sampled exotic fruits!
