- Bunker fuels for commercial vessels will normally; HFO 380
- Some refineries will also export HFO with higher viscosities; HFO 680
Oil property
When these bunker fuels form an emulsion,
we will experience the extreme viscosities
Oil property
Weathering of HFO 680
12
- Crude oils may change into high viscous oils as the oil ”weathers”
and start to form an emulsion. Lighter fractions of crudes evaporate
- Weathering test of relevant crude oils should be performed

Skimmer principles 1
WEIR Skimmer (overflow principle)
High capasity 400 m3/hr – Low viscosity <15.000 Cp
2
HiVisc Skimmer (drum –shovel principle)
Capacity 120 m3/hr - High viscosity >15.000 Cp
3
Polaris skimmer – for ice infested water
(drum /brush principle)
Capacity 120 m3/hr.

Day & night operation
Wind 30 m/s
Waves 4.0 m
Towing Speed 5 knots
Temp range (air) -40°C to +50°C
(sea) -2°C to +40°C
• If we can ”see” and measure what we are doing
during operation, we may increase the overall
efficiency by a factor of 2
To operate ”blindfolded”, the equipment should have:
- oil thickness meter in the oil boom
- oil/water phase meter in discharge line
- oil slick positions from surveillance helicopter

STATUS OF THE
TRANSREC SYSTEM
The TransRec is designed for:
• Oil recovery in heavy sea
• High pump capacity
• Transfer of recovered oil in open seas
• Emergency off loading of grounded vessels
• Can be used for shoreline clean up.
• To be operated by one person
• Designed for 24 hours operation
- In field maintenance
- All equipment remote controlled
- No people on deck
