FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT
(Readings: 1 Samuel 16:1b, 6-7, 10-13a — Ephesians 5:8-14 — John 9:1-41)
Seeing Light, Being Light — If you have ever been questioned by people who don’t want to believe you, you have a good idea of what the man born blind went through. And so you also know what the two children who saw Our Lady of La Salette experienced. They were first subjected to interrogation by the
mayor, who did not want his town associated with anything like an apparition, and was by no means disposed to believe in it himself. He even tried to bribe Mélanie, whose family was desperately poor, to
deny what she had seen and heard. After all, who could reasonably be expected to believe that the Blessed Virgin could come to this remote place, and to such persons as these? But, as we read in the first reading,
“Not as man sees does God see, because man sees the appearance but the Lord looks into the heart.” Even the clergy were naturally skeptical. The last thing they wanted was to have a fraud perpetrated in the name of Our Lady. They, too, questioned the children, trying to trip them up; but, unlike the mayor, they
came away convinced of two things at least: these children were not lying, nor were they remotely capable of making up such a story and such a message. As more light was shed on the event, the more the truth of the event became evident. St. Paul writes that “light produces every kind of goodness and righteousness and truth.” He goes so far as to say that Christians are light. The man born blind received light in stages:
physically first, and then spiritually. The hostility he encountered actually helped him to deepen his understanding of what had happened to him, preparing him for his profession of faith at the end of the
story. Lent is half over. It provides an opportunity for us to be gradually enlightened, both over a six week period and from year to year. The discipline of Lent is not meant to be easy. Through it we are challenged,
or we challenge ourselves, to turn ever more toward the light that is Christ. It is time for us to become light.
“Let Your Light Shine”
Saint Paul gives us a wakeup call. As stewards of the light
of Christ, we are to reflect that light with the help of the
Holy Spirit. If Christ’s work has transformed and illumi-
nated our lives, there should be a change. The light of
Christ’s ac ve presence should be at work in us. And as
the light shines within us, we take on the proper es of
that light and we shine too. We are used by God to shine
the light of Christ in the lives of others. A challenging
Lenten reflec on: Is the light of Christ shining in our
hearts? Is the light of Christ reflec ng out from us to
others?

BLESSED TRINITY ANNOUNCEMENTS
March 26th, 2017 Blessed Trinity Catholic Church — www.BlessedTrinityOrlando.org Page 6
At the 10:00 Mass this weekend, our elect at Blessed Trinity
celebrate the Second Scru ny. The elect are called forward,
accompanied by their sponsors. The presider invites the
community to pray in silence for the elect. The elect are then
invited to assume a posture of prayer; usually by kneeling. Prayers
of intercession are prayed for the elect based on their needs, the
community, and the world. They are usually sung by a cantor in a
slow, deliberate, and ascending movement making for an extremely powerful moment in the ritual.
Following the intercessions, the presider will pray a prayer of exorcism and freedom for the
elect. Included in this prayer will be the laying of hands on the elect, praying for the con nued
freedom from the effects of sin and the influence of the devil, and that God’s Spirit may breathe life
where there was once death due to sin. They receive new strength in the midst of their spiritual
journey and they open their hearts to receive the gi s of the Savior. The elect are then dismissed
from the assembly to con nue to break open their experience of the scru ny and of the word
proclaimed in the assembly.

Thank you so much for your prayers, cookies,

Thank you to all the helpers who picked up the extra supplies from businesses, transpor ng the supplies from my house to the hall, se ng up the hall on Friday, filling and packing the boxes and going to the P.O. to mail the boxes on Saturday. Receiving a package from someone (especially someone that they do not even know) with the Thank You note from YOU our parishioners means more to a Military person so far away from home than I could ever explain. Thank you again and God Bless you all from all our CCW awesome ladies.

Way of the Cross — Friday’s during Lent at 9:15am & 7pm The Stations of the Cross began as the practice of pious pilgrims to Jerusalem who would retrace the final journey of Jesus Christ to Calvary. Later, for the
many who wanted to pass along the same route, but could not make the trip to Jerusalem, a practice developed that eventually took the form of the fourteen
stations currently found in almost every church.
