English Camp By Arezu Mansuri & Paulina Rovayo

“English camp was a success this year! Every year we’re increasing

our level of capacity,” mentioned Yujin Kim, 11th grader. This event is an

annual service project organized by the NHS members in IAA, which

consists of interacting with the kids from local villages with the purpose of

teaching English. “What we do in English camp is not just teach English, we

also play games and socialize with the kids,” said Christopher Intriago, 9th

grader.

English camp was held from March 5th to 9th, from 2:45- 4:15. All

secondary school got to participate in this event, by volunteering to teach

and play with the kids. As a result they gained more experience, and

received service hours. “I felt that my teaching skills built up, and I became

friends with some really nice girls around our age,” shared Paulina Rovayo,

10th grader.

“This is a great opportunity to get to know people we don’t get to see

often, and socialize and learn many things from them,” mentioned Esteban

Mercado, 11th grader. IAA students get to interact with these kids once a

year, hoping to have increased their teaching skills, and with the goal of

improving for the next English camp. English camp was a total success,

with around forty-five students participating. “I hope next English camp turns

out as great as this one and more kids get to come, and enjoy this great

opportunity we give to others,” shared Arezu Mansuri, 9th grader.

Kids from the villages left with a smile, they were satisfied from all

they’ve learned. The school was glad with all the work they’ve done. “I think

this year was awesome, but next year it will be magnificent because we’ll

have more experience on teaching,” said Meghan Wildman, 10th grader.

UEFA Champions League By Frederick Intriago

The UEFA Champions League, originally known as the European Cup, is an

annual international club football competition organized by the Union of European

Football Associations (UEFA) since 1955 for the top football clubs in Europe. It is the

most prestigious club competition in European football. The final of the competition is

the most watched annual sporting event worldwide, drawing over 178 million

television viewers.

Prior to 1992, the tournament was officially called the "European Champion

Clubs' Cup," but was usually referred to simply as the "Champions League." The

competition was initially a straight knockout competition open only to the champion

club of each country. During the 1990s the tournament began to be expanded,

incorporating a round-robin group phase and more teams. Europe's strongest

national leagues now provide up to four teams each for the competition. The UEFA

Champions League should not be confused with the UEFA Europe League, formerly

known as the UEFA Cup.

The tournament consists of several stages. In the present format, it begins in

mid-July with three knockout-qualifying rounds and a play-off round. The 10

surviving teams join 22 seeded teams in the group stage, in which there are eight

groups of four teams each. The eight group winners and eight runners-up enter the

final knockout phase, which culminates with the final match in May. The winner of

the UEFA Champions League qualifies for the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club

World Cup.

Real Madrid is the most successful club in the competition's history, having

won the tournament nine times; including the first five seasons it was

contested. Spanish clubs have accumulated the highest number of victories with 13

wins. 21 different clubs, 12 of which have won the title more than once, have won

the title. Since the tournament changed name and structure in 1992, no club has

managed consecutive wins, with Milan being the last club to successfully defend

their title; in 1990.The reigning champion of the competition is Spanish

club Barcelona.
