Four Keys to Moving Forward – Minister Ryon Everidge
Sunday, January 27, 2019
A. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF A KEY?
1. We need to understand that keys give you access to something you want/need or a place you want/need to go.
Keys come with responsibility and power.
Keys to the house comes with the responsibility of not losing them and being
cautious of who you invite into your home.
a. Keys represent access and authority.
b. Keys represent security and safety.
c. Keys allow you to enter and keeps another person out.
2. Revelations 1:18 (NKJV) “I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.”
3. Matthew 16:19 (NLT) “And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven.
Whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you
permit on earth will be permitted in heaven.”
B. FOUR KEYS:
1. Belief and Action
a. Matthew 16:7-11 (NLT) At this they began to argue with each other
because they hadn’t brought any bread. 8 Jesus knew what they were
saying, so he said, “You have so little faith! Why are you arguing with
each other about having no bread? 9 Don’t you understand even yet?
Don’t you remember the 5,000 I fed with five loaves, and the baskets of
leftovers you picked up?10 Or the 4,000 I fed with seven loaves, and the
large baskets of leftovers you picked up? 11 Why can’t you understand
that I’m not talking about bread? So again I say, ‘Beware of the yeast of
the Pharisees and Sadducees.’”
b. Matthew 16:16-19 (NLT) Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah,
the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus replied, “You are blessed, Simon son of
John, because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not
learn this from any human being. 18 Now I say to you that you are Peter

(which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the
powers of hell will not conquer it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the
Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in
heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven.”
c. Peter given the keys to THE KINGDOM. Why?
Acts 2:14-41 (preached to Jews) First sermon of Jesus being the Christ
Acts 10-11 (preached to gentiles) First sermon of Jesus being the Christ
Matthew 18:18 - God gave access to the other disciples. d. Peter given access to set people free from Satan.
Ephesians 2:11-19 - We have all been given access to The KINGDOM of God.
Psalms 14:2 (NLT) The LORD looks down from heaven on the entire human race; He looks to see if anyone is truly wise, if anyone seeks God.
2. Faith
a. Matthew 17:17-20 (NLT) Jesus said, “You faithless and corrupt people!
How long must I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring the
boy here to me.”18 Then Jesus rebuked the demon in the boy, and it left
him. From that moment the boy was well. 19 Afterward the disciples asked
Jesus privately, “Why couldn’t we cast out that demon?” 20 “You don’t
have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith
even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move
from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.
b. Luke 7:1-10 (NLT) When Jesus had finished saying all this to the people,
he returned to Capernaum. 2 At that time the highly valued slave of a
Roman officer was sick and near death. 3 When the officer heard about
Jesus, he sent some respected Jewish elders to ask him to come and heal
his slave.4 So they earnestly begged Jesus to help the man. “If anyone

deserves your help, he does,” they said, 5 “for he loves the Jewish people
and even built a synagogue for us.” 6 So Jesus went with them. But just
before they arrived at the house, the officer sent some friends to say,
“Lord, don’t trouble yourself by coming to my home, for I am not worthy
of such an honor. 7 I am not even worthy to come and meet you. Just say
the word from where you are, and my servant will be healed. 8 I know this
because I am under the authority of my superior officers, and I have
authority over my soldiers. I only need to say, ‘Go,’ and they go, or
‘Come,’ and they come. And if I say to my slaves, ‘Do this,’ they do it.” 9 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. Turning to the crowd that was
following him, he said, “I tell you, I haven’t seen faith like this in all
Israel!” 10 And when the officer’s friends returned to his house, they found
the slave completely healed.
3. Prayer
a. Mark 9:29 (NLT) Jesus replied, “This kind can be cast out only by prayer.”
b. Ask
o Luke 11: 9-10 (NLT) “And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will
receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.
o John 15:7 (NLT) But if you remain in me and my words remain in you,
you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!
c. Pray for each other o James 5:16 (NLT) Confess your sins to each other and pray for each
other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.
o Philippians 4:6 (NLT) Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray
about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.
o Ephesians 6:18 (NLT) Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every
occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers.

d. Missing the point
o Prayer is power. o If your prayers are not being answered it could be because the
timing is not right but it could also be because your faith is not strong.
o Prayer is not about what you can get but about relationship with
God.
4. Living Connected in The Word of God
a. Genesis 11:1-9 (NLT) At one time all the people of the world spoke the
same language and used the same words. 2 As the people migrated to the
east, they found a plain in the land of Babylonia and settled there. 3 They
began saying to each other, “Let’s make bricks and harden them with
fire.” (In this region bricks were used instead of stone, and tar was used
for mortar.) 4 Then they said, “Come, let’s build a great city for ourselves
with a tower that reaches into the sky. This will make us famous and keep
us from being scattered all over the world.” 5 But the LORD came down to
look at the city and the tower the people were building. 6 “Look!” he said.
“The people are united, and they all speak the same language. After this,
nothing they set out to do will be impossible for them! 7 Come, let’s go
down and confuse the people with different languages. Then they won’t
be able to understand each other.” 8 In that way, the LORD scattered them
all over the world, and they stopped building the city. 9 That is why the
city was called Babel, because that is where the LORD confused the people
with different languages. In this way he scattered them all over the world.
b. Romans 12- One Body
o It is time we work together in the gifts God has given us.
