WELCOME TO OUR AUTUMN PROGRAMME FOR 2017It’s the time of year to take up something new or pick up an activity you haven’t done for a while. We have plenty of classes and workshops to choose from. We know that it can be a bit daunting signing up to a new class, and the financial commitment can be off-putting, so try a class for FREE during our taster week (18 – 23 September).

It’s not only classes that can seem a risk, so we are trialling a Pay What You Decide policy for some theatre performances – look out for the logo. We want to encourage more people to come and see shows at Forest Arts, more often. Pay What You Decide allows you to pay what you can afford, rather than a fixed ticket price, but also removes the financial risk of buying a ticket for a show without knowing whether you are going to enjoy it or not.

Tickets will be available to book as usual, but there is no obligation for you to pay until after you have seen the show. You then decide on a price you think is suitable based on your experience. All money collected will help us pay the artists who have performed, and we therefore hope you will give generously.

We look forward to seeing you at Forest Arts this Autumn.

TWENTIETH CENTURY WOMEN (15)Set in Santa Barbara California at the end of the 70s, Twentieth Century Women stars Annette Bening as Dorothea Fields a determined single mother raising an adolescent son. California and the whole world seem to be brimming with cultural change and rebellion and when teenager Jamie lands up in hospital – after a foolish stunt – Dorothea enlists the help of two younger women – Abbie their lodger, who is a free-spirited punk; and Julie a savvy and provocative teenage neighbour – to help with his upbringing.

“An insightful and, on occasion laugh-out-loud piece of filmmaking. Artfully shot and structured, whilst its warmth and wit shine as brightly as the California sun.” Empire

MITCH BENN: DON’T FEAR THE REAPERIt’s been a morbid time for “the country’s leading musical satirist” (The Times); he’s turned 46 – over the hill by anyone’s standards – his personal life is in turmoil, and his childhood heroes are dropping like flies. At times like these, a man feels the Reaper creeping up on him… But is death anything to fear? And is it really the end? (Yes. Yes, it is, sorry!) Mitch confronts his – and YOUR – mortality with hilarious (and tuneful) consequences. Join him! It’s time you’re not getting back!

Mitch has been a regular on Radio 4’s The Now Show for more than a decade and presented many radio specials. He also co-presented Radio 2’s Anatomy Of A Guitar and presented Spank The Plank for Radio 4. He is currently working on a 40th anniversary special of Derek & Clive, again for BBC Radio 4. Mitch also won BBC2’s Celebrity Mastermind.

ROSENCRANTZ AND GUILDENSTERN ARE DEADPERFORMED BY ARENA THEATREBournemouth based Arena Theatre presents Tom Stoppard’s seminal work. Absurd and existential, funny and plain weird, the play expands upon the exploits of two minor characters from Shakespeare’s Hamlet. The action takes place mainly ‘in the wings’ of the Bard’s greatest work, with brief appearances of major characters from Hamlet who enact fragments of the original’s scenes.

MAGIC OF THE MUSICALSFollowing the delightful evening of music by students from Trinity Laban last year, Sam Jewison (piano and vocals) returns with Sophie Walby (soprano) and Harry Evans (trumpet and double bass) to give a performance of much loved music from the musicals. All three young musicians are hugely talented and have performed extensively. The evening will feature the music of George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, Cole Porter and Irving Berlin with old favourites including I Get a Kick Out of You, Let’s Do it (Let’s Fall in Love), I Got Rhythm and All That Jazz and is produced by international soprano Wendy Eathorne.

DEFENDER OF THE DEADDecember 2011, Christmas is coming, and the Summer Olympics will be taking place in London. Zac, a retired British army NCO, has set up a security company and won the contract to protect a sensitive archaeological site near Stonehenge – the object of a very English punch-up over politics, money, land, heritage, history and weird religious cults – this should be no problem for a man who helped sort out Northern Ireland and The Balkans – if only they’d do things the Army way.

SAM KELLY AND THE LOST BOYSSam Kelly, one of the most exciting young prospects in the folk scene, has joined up with Ciaran Algar on fiddle and cellist Graham Coe to form The Lost Boys, and created a debut album which won the Horizon Award for emerging artists at the 2016 Radio 2 Folk Awards.

Sam’s meandering musical journey has ranged from reaching the final of ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent as a teenager, to being selected for the first ever EFDSS Artist Development Scheme. Whether playing to 13 million people on prime-time television, or to 10 people in a tiny pub, Sam’s child-like fascination with music shines through and his passion for discovering and rekindling the sounds of his musical heritage has gained him the respect of peers and audiences worldwide.

Support comes from Jellyman’s Daughter.
