“In the backcourt we are searching for ourpoint guard. We are asking players toplay point that have never quarterbackeda team, but they are working hard. Thisalso leads to a pair of areas we must ex-cel at, or at least improve on, to be suc-cessful – limiting our turnovers and get-ting good perimeter shooting.”

Edwards mentioned 6-1 senior HermanMains, a transfer from Division II Univer-sity of West Alabama, 6-4 junior EdwardGullatte (Denmark Technical College), 5-11 junior Bryant Julious (USCSalkehatchie and a Hemingway native),and Robinson as being among those whowill see minutes in the backcourt. Fresh-men guards Philip Jenkins (Goose CreekHigh School) and Evrik Gary (CamdenHigh School) are both good shooters whocan put the ball in the basket and havebeen pushing the upperclassmen duringthe preseason.

In the team’s exhibition loss at Clemson,Edwards was impressed by the perfor-mance of senior swingman Kaylan Ander-son, a transfer from Division I Universityof Wisconsin-Milwaukee, who tallied 20points on 6-of-7 shooting. “He has expe-rience and possesses a good inside-out-side game,” Edwards commented.

“Robert Faulkner is a very talented player, who is fighting to get back in playingshape after sitting out several seasons. We need a lot of the offense to flowthrough him.” Faulkner, a 6-8 225-pound
