Nursery home learning week 5 Wednesday 6 th May Phonics Last week was the first week the children were introduced to phase 2 letter sounds. We always start with the sounds for sat and pin as these can lead on to learning word/ reading quicker than learning the sounds in alphabetical order. This week I would like you to play the I spy game all week to support the learning of these new sounds. The I spay game will be attached in a separate file. Reading Take a look at this page… Who are the characters in the story at this point? What story does this remind you of? (the children should reference last week’s story of The Enormous Turnip). How is the story like last week’s story? How is it different? Key vocab to focus on: Gingerbread – a type of biscuit that is made with a spice called ginger. It has a warm taste. Yelling- shouting loudly, sometimes a little bit cross. Catch- grab hold of. Literacy In the story lots of characters came to help catch the Gingerbread man. I wonder what you would do to catch the Gingerbread man? Can you draw a picture of how you would catch the Gingerbread man Maths

PhonicsLast week was the first week the children were introduced to phase 2 letter sounds. We always start with the sounds for sat and pin as these can lead on to learning word/ reading quicker than learning the sounds in alphabetical order. This week I would like you to play the I spy game all week to support the learning of these new sounds. The I spay game will be attached in a separate file.

MathsToday I would like you to use the link https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/gingerbread-man-game to play the matching game with the Gingerbread man.

Understanding of the world

What a shame that the Gingerbread man had to trust the fox! That naughty fox tricked the Gingerbread man and gobbled him up!! I wonder if there is a way to get across the water without the Gingerbread man getting wet?

Today have a go at building a boat for the gingerbread man to cross the river and not get eaten by the fox. Try using lego, lolly sticks, duplo, straws, plastic containers, plastic cups etc…

You could test your boat in a bowl of water and use your puppet you made earlier in the week!

What worked best? Please send me some photos to [email protected]

Expressive arts and designIn the story lots of characters come to help catch the Gingerbread man. During this time whilst we are at home lots of people need help. So many special workers are helping everybody...

I wonder if you could draw and design a thank you banner to put in your window to thank all the doctors, nurses, supermarket workers and all the people that are working hard to help everyone during this time? Lots of people have put up rainbows and thank you messages if you have done this already maybe you could make / decorate a positive message.

Name practise – please also use this time to practise name writing with your child every day. You could follow some of the advice on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swwxOB4MS-YPlease do not get your child to write their full name in capitals only a capital at the beginning the rest lower case. This week let’s try making our names with lego! You will need to write your child’s name on either lego blocks or duplo as below:

Have fun!
