    Its just for an idea. Do it your self.

    Question 1:

    For each of the f ollowing f our networks, discuss the consequences if a connection f ails. [10

    marks]

    a. Fiv e devices arranged in a mesh topology

    b. Fiv e devices arranged in a star topology (not counting the hub)

    c. F iv e devices arranged in a bus topology

    d. Fiv e devices arranged in a ring topology

    Solution:

    a. Five devices arranged in a mesh topology

    In mesh topology each device has a dedicated point-to-point link with another device. A devic e in

    mesh topology must have n-1 connection. If a connection fails it does not eff ect to entire

    network.

    n=5

    5(5-1)/2

    25-5/2

    20/2 =10

    If one device is f ail then

    Remaining devices are 4

    n=4

    4(4-1)/2

    12/2 =6

    b. Five devices arranged in a star topology (not counting the hub)

    In star topology each dev ice has a dedicated point-to-point link with a central hub. Hub prov ide link

    between all dev ices which are attach to it. I f one dev ice is f ail out of f ive then the whole network

    is not eff ected.

    c. Five devices arranged in a bus topology

    bus topology is Multipoint. One long cable acts as a Backbone to link all dev ices in the network.
