WHAT WE LEARNED in 2013
Update: by the numbers…• More than 250,000 certified dance, music, theatre and visual arts
teachers work in our nation’s K-12 schools
• 47,000 visits by arts educators, arts advocates, teaching artists and others reviewed the draft revisions to the nation’s voluntary arts standards in July, September and October
• More than 4,800 of those interested in standards revision provided feedback on the standards via on-line surveys in July and October, representing all 50 states and 3 nations
• 61 selected writing team members combed through 1,056,000 responses and comments from the field on PreK-8 draft standards in early August following the first review…
Update: Changes we have made• Separated standards from instructional resources and supports
• Created a unified set of Anchor Standards shared by ALL arts disciplines
• Worked to make the standards fewer, clearer and more rigorous
Original Organizational Structure: Framework Matrix
Current Framework Matrix
Update: Changes we continue to work on
• Creating glossaries for the discipline standards
• Developing and beta-testing a website where you can select the way you organize, view and print the standards
• Professional development opportunities – in person, in print and virtually – in support of the standards
