Wellfleet Harbor - basic info and background:

• Very shallow area: see bathymetry map (slide 7)• Benthic substrate includes sand, gravel, mud

and SAV (slide 8);• Historically used for shellfishing and • for aquaculture bringing $1.2 - $2.3 million/year

(American Oyster (Crassostrea virginica), Quahog (Mercenaria mercenaria), Soft shell clam (Mya arenaria), Bay Scallop (Agropectin irradians)

• Description maps are on slides 7-11;

List of four potential activities planned for the Wellfleet Harbor:

• Marine sanctuary for shellfish

• Marina

• New Aquaculture site

• Tourist resort (recreational area)

Selected four sites/areas will be used for four listed different activities:

Middle Meadows

Blackfish Creek

Loagy Bay

Creek North of Audubon Sanctuary

Your task is to:

1. Based on the environmental and socio-economic assessments of the Wellfleet Harbor area explain and justify where would you place four activities and how did you decide for which activity each site would be suitable for;

2. Design your suggested management plan and potential scenario – use given maps to place your uses;

3. What type of indicators would you use to monitor and evaluate your suggested plan and management decision? (select between 3-5 for environmental and same # for socio-economic aspects of evaluation and monitoring)
