India After Independence• The territory of Kashmir, located between India and Pakistan,

has been the cause of major dispute and tension over who owns it

• Pakistan has long been under Military rule, making it very unstable

• Health care improvements have boosted India’s population to over 1 billion

• There are a lot of private ownership industries, which is a cause to why India’s economy is slightly less advanced than other East Asian countries

The Partition of India• Took place in 1947• The cause was to divide the subcontinent of India along its

sectarian lines• Tried to separate Hindus and Muslims equally• Resulted in Gandhi being assassinated for his strong

leadership in his movements, territorial dispute in Kashmir and Jammu, and possible nuclear weapons testing
