THE BIG QUESTION (TO DISCUSS IN YOUR KDG’S)

1. Do you think that there is anything we can do that might make God love us more?

Some people might think that if they’re really good, never do anything wrong or if they spend hours praying that God might love them more than He loves other people. It’s not true! God is love. He loves us more than we can imagine, there’s nothing we can do to make God love us more. He is love and He loves you!

2. How did God show us His love?

God showed us how much He loves us, by sending His son Jesus for us.

3. How does knowing that God loves you make a difference in your life?

Knowing God loves you changes how you live. You know that you don’t need to do anything to make God love you, you don’t need to compare yourself to others or wonder if God might love them more than you. God is love. He loves you no matter what. When you know that God loves you, it changes how you see yourself, knowing that God loves others, changes the way you see them.

Supplies Needed:

Hearts cut out from the template supplied in print material. Coloured tissue paper or cellophane, glue, scissors, tape, string or yarn.

ACTIVITY SHEETS Children complete the activity sheets in this time.

THE BIG ACTIVITYPurpose: To remind the children that God is love and His love never quits.

Directions: Each child will need two heart shapes with the middle cut out. Print the heart shapes from the template provided. Fold it in half and cut the middle of the heart out following the dotted lines on the template. Give children one of their heart shapes, and help them to stick coloured tissue paper or cellophane pieces across the heart shape, using glue to fix the pieces to the edges of the heart. Once they have covered their heart shape, use some tape to attach a loop of string or yarn to the top. Then help them to stick on a second heart shape to finish it off.

Explanation: Love is wonderful, powerful, amazing and life changing. People the world over sing, write and dream about LOVE. We love our families, we love our friends, we love our favourite flavour of ice cream. Love is bigger than we can really even put into words, we feel love and we know what love is when we see it in action. Love isn’t just a feeling or something we dream up. Love begins with God. God is love.

Word find. Give each child a page with the Big Word word puzzle on it. The words of the verse are hidden between other letters of the alphabet. Read along the lines and circle the words of the verse.

GAMEOne Minute Race

Have all the children stand up and set them the challenge to sit down when they think one minute has passed. Make sure they can’t see any clocks in the room, or see their watches. The leader begins the stop watch and lets the players know that the time has begun. Keep an eye out for which player sits down closest to the correct time, they are the winner. Don’t announce the winner until all players are seated.

PRAYERDear God,

Thank you that you are love and that you love us. Thank you that no matter who we are or what we do, your love will never quit. Help us to get to know you more and love you because you first loved us.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
