Why are they needed? Wednesday, September 18 th , Geneva, IL Speaker: Mani Kumar Manda This presentation focuses on the basic concepts of Product Life Cycle Management (PLM), Product Data Management (PDM) and Product Information Management (PIM) in a Vendor neutral manner. Often times the key questions that get asked are 'What are the differences between PLM, PDM and PIM? What role they play for a given Organization?” There is also a question about why one may need one application over other applications for these functional areas. In this presentation the audience will have an opportunity to understand the basic concepts of these applications and how each one of them are relevant for an effective and efficient operation of the supply chain to increase the competitive advantage. Adoption of these technologies will result in the more effective and efficient launch of new products with shorter launch cycles and reduces the overall costs of new product launch processes. Most importantly, the overall quality of product data is vastly improved and is synchronized across the Enterprise. A brief part of the presentation also focuses on the comparison between PLM and PDM as well as PDM and PIM. At this point in the presentation, the discussion then moves to use cases for each one of these applications, answering a fundamental question about who needs them and Why? This session provides an opportunity for the audience to interact with industry thought leaders who work in the space of day to day product management, product life cycle management and master data management disciplines. Topics include Master Data, Master Data Management (MDM), Product Information Management (PIM), Product Data Challenges, Life Cycle Management, Product Life Cycle Management (PLM), Product Data Management (PDM), and Case Studies. Chapter Leadership Update

Marketing Shawn Batka, CPIM, CSCP

Welcome to another new APICS programming year. I hope you enjoyed your summer! It’s hard to believe that kids are back in school again; where did the time go? Education As you get back into the swing of the fall activities, I encourage you to take a retrospective career assessment and determine what professional development themes you want to address, and take action against them. The chapter offers a wide range of education opportunities to assist the career development goals you have identified. The Chapter has recently expanded beyond the traditional APICS offerings and we now offer Lean, Six Sigma, Project Management, Root Cause Analysis, Quality Certifications, among others. We are constantly looking to expand our offerings, so please let us know if there are other offerings you would like to see. Please reference the education section of the newsletter for more information. Programs We have another great series of PDM programs scheduled for this year. As in past years, we plan on having several tours as well as relevant topics at our dinner meetings. September starts off with a presentation about Master Data Management. Mani Kumar Manda is a fellow APICS Fox River member, and he was also selected to present this same topic at the upcoming APICS International Conference and Expo in Orlando. Please join us on Wednesday 9/18 to gain more insights in this area. For October, we will be hosting another recent APICS International Conference speaker Phil Kosik and he will be talking about Inventory Management in the New Normal. Our November PDM will feature Tom Dixon talking about career planning and networking. This will be a timely topic as people think about personal goals and targets for next year. As you can see, we have a great line-up of speakers already for the first half of this year. We will wrap up December with a Networking event at a local restaurant. Tours Based on the feedback and registrations, we are going to continue offering 3 to 4 tours this year in addition to PDM’s in the same month. We had a lot of success with the midday tour at McDonald’s and we are looking to do a similar midday event for a tour this year. We have a very exciting year planned for you and I hope you will take advantage of what we have put together. The Marketing Team and the entire Board of Directors has been working hard to bring you quality educational sessions and development meetings. APICS is an organization for the members. If you have any suggestions or topic you want to discuss, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or any member of the board. Shawn Batka VP, Marketing
