The Spring Citizen’s Academy Interested in knowing how the Kansas City

Kansas Police Department trains its officers?

Then the Citizens Academy wants You!

The sign up for the Kansas City Kansas Police Department Citizens Academy going on now.

This Spring the Citizens Academy will be held every Monday and Wednesday, from 6PM –

10PM, beginning on Monday, March 2, 2015, and ends Wednesday, April 15, 2014. The Citizen’s Academy curriculum is designed to inform and

educate the residents and stakeholders of Police Department’s resources, responsibility, and com-

mitment to its citizens.

The Citizen’s Academy is a mixed format of class-room lecture and field activity in a controlled envi-ronment. The classes are instructed by the men

and women who work in the specialized field such as Crime Scene Investigations, SWAT, Bomb

Squad, Criminal Investigations, and much more. Seating is limited to 25 people so sign up now.

Minnesota Ave Disruptions

Beginning Monday, January 19th HOWCO Utilities, a contractor for AT&T will begin installing new cable in existing conduit at 10th & Minnesota Avenue and the work will proceed to 5th & Minnesota Ave. The project should take approximately 21 days. The work will block parking areas and will also disrupt traffic lanes.

LOW INCOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE

PROGRAM (LIEAP)

The Low Income Assistance Program (LIEAP) is

a federally funded program that helps eligible

households pay a portion of their home energy

costs by providing a one-time per year benefit.

The 2015 application period is from Tuesday,

January 20, 2015 through Tuesday, March 31st,

2015. Applications must be received prior to

5:00pm on March 31, 2015.

LIEAP eligibility: In order to qualify, appli-

cants must meet the following requirements:

An adult living at the address must be per-

sonally responsible for paying the heating

costs incurred at the current residence, paya-

ble either to the landlord or the fuel vendor.

Applicants must demonstrate a recent histo-

ry of payments toward purchase of the pri-

mary heating energy.

The combined gross income (before deductions)

of all persons living at the address may not ex-

ceed 130% of

the federal

poverty level

according to

the guideline

listed in the

chart:

Benefit levels

to the following factors: Household income •

Number of persons living at the address • Type

of dwelling • Type of heating fuel

You may apply online at: www.dcf.ks.gov or by dialing 1-800-432-0043.

The utility tax rebate

The Unified Government offers a utility tax rebate to sen-

ior citizens during the first three months of the year.

The program offers senior citizens a rebate on a portion of

the amount of utilities paid during the previous year. Per-

sons applying must meet all three qualifications listed be-

low:

Be 65 years of age during the entire tax year

Live in Kansas City, KS

Total household income must not exceed $25,000

If you are eligible, your refund will be a total of:

Gas franchise tax paid to Kansas Gas or Atmos Energy

90% of water pollution charges

6.9% of water and electricity paid to the Board of Pub-

lic Utilities

Franchise tax (special municipal charge) paid to SBC

or AT&T

Refund on city sales tax (based on income)

The maximum refund is $150.

Eligible persons should bring:

All gas, telephone, and BPU bills paid during the tax year

Proof of income, i.e. social security, pension, interest,

work, etc.

You may visit the Clerk’s office Monday - Friday, 8:30am

to 4pm on a first come, first serve basis. The Clerk’s office

is located inside of City Hall at 701 North 7th Street, KCK

66101 on the 3rd floor.

To visit the Wyandotte/Leavenworth Area Agency on Ag-

ing & Disability Resource Center, you must schedule an

appointment by dialing 913-573-8531. The ADRC will

assist on Tuesdays and Thursdays by appointment only.

The program runs from January 2, 2015 to March 31,

2015. For questions or more information regarding the
