PERSON COUNTY EDUCATION FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES 2016-17 GRANT WINNERS

In mid-November, the Person County Education Foundation announced three grant opportunities for teachers in the traditional and charter schools of Person County. PCEF received thirteen applications for Teacher Mini-Grants for Cultural Arts and STEM Education which were available to all 6th-12th grade teachers. Congratulations to the following winners of grants worth $300 each: Anne Bettendorf (RCS) Ceramics supplies, Laura Carver (RCS) Fiesta Latina performance at Carolina Theatre,

Jennifer Clement (NMS) 3D printer filament for printing digital sculptures, Teresa Coleman (RCS) Rear projection screen, Sharon Harris (SMS) Supplies for wire sculptures and printmaking, John Koket (PHS) Boe-bot robot and accessories, Angeline Paul (SMS) Time for Kids magazines, and Valerie Smith (SMS) Spring performance sheet music. PCEF also received eight applications for Literacy Grants which were available to all K-12th grade teachers and librarians. Congratulations to the following winners of grants worth $200 each: Beth Casteel (Stories Creek) 64 biographies, Nicole Emmert (Oak Lane) Scrabble board games, Theresa Torian (Helena) Class set of Esperanza Rising, Amanda Vernon (South) Read Across America Week incentives, and Paige Whitfield (Stories Creek) Scholastic News Our Inner Solar System and Animals.

A third grant application is still in progress: Experience Grants for all K-5th grade classes. Experience Grant applications are available until May 8 th and can be found at www.personcoeducationfoundation.weebly.com/experience-grants. The Person County Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to serving traditional and charter public schools of Person County. PCEF strives to work year-round to provide resources and enrichment programs for the K-12 classrooms of Person County’s traditional and charter public schools. With the community’s support, PCEF is able to partially fund field trips and “out-of-the-box” classroom experiences for Person County students as well as contribute to schoolwide literacy initiatives. PCEF’s mission is to encourage educational opportunities through community collaboration.
