BRIEF NOTE ON FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT (FDI) FROM USA An analysis of the foreign direct investment (FDI) equity inflows, received in India, since 2000, shows that the FDI equity inflows have risen substantially. 2. CUMULATIVE FDI EQUITY INFLOWS (remittance-wise) received during January 2000 – December 2016 were Rs. 1,738,577.85 crores (US$ 325.02 billion). Out of this, FDI inflows from USA (which ranks 5th) are Rs. 108,186.74 crores (i.e. US$ 20.02 billion), which represents 6.16% of the cumulative inflows received (this amount does not include inflows received prior to January 2000, as such data prior to that date was not centrally maintained by the RBI). Further, project, country & sector specific FDI equity inflows data, in respect of USA, is available only from January, 2000 onwards. 3. YEAR-WISE FDI INFLOWS received from USA companies, since January, 2000, as compared to total inflows are given below:

4.1. SECTOR-WISE DISTRIBUTION OF FDI INFLOWS:

On perusal of the sector-wise distribution of FDI equity inflows received from USA, from 01.01.2000 to 31.12.2016, it is seen that the highest FDI equity inflows have been in the Services Sector, which accounts for 21% of FDI inflows from USA. Construction (Infrastructure) Activities, with about 14%, is in the second place and, Computer Software & Hardware with over 11%, is in the third place.
