BATTLESHIPS

This activity can be an ongoing game, put away for when time permits, but will

require two students to play together.

Instructions: Give each student a “battle ground”. Put up a barrier, such as a book, between 2 players. Have them draw 6 battle ships that cover 3 squares each (you can change this to suit your time frame, e.g. 2 x 4 squares, 2 x 2 squares etc.) on their battle ground so that their partner does not see (See Ex-ample). Player 1 calls out a location to their partner, e.g. C2. If he/she hits a battleship they must say “Hit” or do a bomb sound (if you can put up with the noise). Then Player 2 has a turn. The winner is the person that knocks out all the battle ships first. Note: they must hit all the squares that the battle ship covers to kill the whole battleship so if they have one hit, they need to realise the rest of the ship will be in adjacent squares to the right, left, up or down from their hit.
