  • Gimme, Can I?, Will you?, Mom, Mom, MOM!!!! Does this line of questions & demands sound familiar? Sometimes we take Mom for granted, but that doesnt have to be the caseespecially not on vacation. Its time to give our own wants a backseat & highlight the leading ladies of our childhoods. For mom, well ensure this vacation exudes style & class. Well focus on art, culture, & all of those sophisticated things that moms put to the wayside for our benefit. So lets raise a glass to Mom she certainly deserves it!

ROMANTIC TONALISMYou like your wine and your art subtle, balanced and crisp. Choose a Pinot Grigio that features notes of apple, bright citrus and is delicate but complex.

FRESH IMPRESSIONISMYou like your wine and your art light, bright and fresh. Choose a Syrah ros that features notes of strawberry, peach and oak for a wine that is soft on the palate but memorable.

ESCAPE TO GRACELANDHOME OF ELVIS PRESLEY

Less than an hours drive from the hustle and bustle of New Orleans, Houma offers a chance to dive deep into Cajunicity, the joie de vivre thats ingrained into every part of the culture. The city is home to the second largest Mardi Gras celebration in the state, with costumed revelers, tons of great throws, and more than a dozen parades full of colorfully-decorated floats. Its all the fun and festivity, without the hoards of tourists found in New Orleans.

If big festivals are little too crazy for you, theres still plenty of opportunity to absorb the culture. Houma offers several museums that highlight the vivid 300-year heritage. The Southdown Plantation House, the Bayou Terrebonne Waterlife Museum, the Regional Military Museum and the Terrebonne Folklife Culture Center cover all aspects of the history, from the natural eco-system to the art and people who inhabited the area centuries ago.

While you can see relics of the wildlife in the museum, its a whole other beast seeing them first-hand. Several companies offer swamp tours that will take guests into the heart of the Bayou. You can explore the 2,500 miles of mysterious flora and interesting fauna (think otters, black bears, exotic birds, wild cats and ancient alligators) or even take a land and culture tour. If youd rather get in on the action than take it all in, expert and amateur fishing options have anglers coming back to Houma again and again.
