Why Every Colorado Business Has To Worry About Cross-Border Data Transfers And What Your Organization Can Do About ItCloud services, mobile apps, and Internet telephony allow local Colorado businesses to re-make themselves as multi-national corporations with customers and employees around the globe. However, the entire European Union and dozens of other countries generally prohibit the transfer of customer and employee data—the lifeblood of the Digital Economy – to the United States unless specific steps, like certification to the new U.S.-EU Privacy Shield Framework, are taken. This presentation will explain how your global business can lawfully manage its cross-border data flows; will describe the impact of recent groundbreaking developments, such as Brexit and the EU’s new General Data protection Regulation (GDPR), on your business; and will provide practical recommendations on how to get the data your organization needs without exposure to administrative enforcement actions and litigation.

Protecting IP in the Face of Increasing “Coopetition”: Key Considerations in Joint Development Agreements “We are going to jointly develop Product Gamechanger with Company X.” “Isn’t Company X a competitor of ours?” “Yes, but not in this market. Not really anyway. So can you put together an agreement by tomorrow. Oh, and make sure you protect our IP. I don’t trust those guys. Thanks.” If you haven’t had that conversation yet, it’s probably coming. Open innovation is on the rise. In an effort to increase speed to market, more and more companies are willing to use the entire market to develop products rather than just internal resources. With that speed to market, however, come complex questions of how to protect your company’s intellectual property position. In this session, we will explore:• Opportunities and risks of collaborative Innovation• How best to define buckets of “mine,” “yours,” “ours” before

you start• Define a path to successful commercialization• Define an acceptable “divorce”• Manage internal expectations
