I chose OCtech because of its location andaffordability. I wanted to live at home until Igraduated without having to take outexcessive student loans. I graduated with thehighest GPA in my program! I am nowenrolled in Columbia College's Associate's toBachelor's program through OCtech’sUniversity Transfer Program. It has been a lifechanger for me and my family. As a full-timeparalegal, wife, and mom, the schedulecould not be more convenient. The classeshave been energetic and hands-on, whichkeeps me attentive and interested. My hope

is that my Bachelor of Arts in Leadership and ProfessionalCommunication will not only help me further my current career asa paralegal, but will also assist me in communicating ideas moreefficiently in my everyday life experiences. I plan to graduate fromColumbia College in 2015.

I worked atHughesAircraft as ashippinginspectorand waslaid off in1993.HughesAircraftoffered theiremployees

one year of tuition assistanceplus book fees in order for themto acquire a new skill. I decidedto enroll in OCtech andcomplete the Licensed PracticalNurse (LPN) program. Igraduated from the LPNprogram in 1994 and thenenrolled in the Associate Degreein Nursing (ADN) program. Igraduated from the ADNprogram and forged ahead byenrolling in the University ofPhoenix to earn my Bachelor’s ofScience in Nursing (BSN) andMaster’s of Science in Nursing. I began my teaching career

at OCtech as an adjunctinstructor and then became thePractical Nursing ProgramCoordinator. In 2012, I led thePN Flex Option that allows adultsto obtain a Diploma in Nursingby taking evening classes andhaving clinical on the weekend.OCtech is a wonderful place todevelop a career path from LPNto BSN through the UniversityTransfer program. Beginning asan LPN gave me the foundationthat I needed to excel in thehealth care field. If you want apersonal experience andguidance, OCtech is the Collegeto choose.

After working at a manufacturing plant for 15years, I had no idea that I would ever needto work elsewhere. Unfortunately, the plantclosed and I needed another job. I thendecided I needed a job that was moresecure and would take me to retirement. Ichose OCtech because I felt two years wasas much as my husband and I could sacrificefinancially. That decision was one of the bestI have ever made. I have never regrettedattending the Nursing Program at OCtech. The faculty instilled strong values and mademe feel that I could accomplish anything. I

had previously been out of school for 17 years and desperatelyneeded that kind of encouragement. I always speak of theOCtech nursing program with pride and gratitude. I can truly saythat being an alumnus of OCtech has been an asset to myadvancing career.

My experience at OCtech helpedcatapult my career in education. Peoplealways questioned why I chose toattend a two-year versus a four-yearcollege since I graduated fromOrangeburg-Wilkinson High School in thetop 10% of my class with a 4.23 GPA. Myresponse was always that it was the mosteconomical decision. There were alsoscholarship opportunities and ampletutoring services. I did not settle forOCtech; I made it a part of my plan ofsuccess. After OCtech, I transferred to

Claflin University as an Elementary Education major with aminor in English. I came to OCtech with a goal in mind: tobecome an effective educator and role model for our youth. In May of 2014, I completed part of my goal by graduatingfrom Claflin University with a 3.9 GPA. The next stop on mysuccess train is to obtain my Master’s in Learning, Design andTechnology at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indianawhere I will begin studying in the fall. Marquetta Strait

I graduated from theMachine ToolTechnology programat OCtech in 2010. Ichose OCtechbecause of itslocation and size. Iknew I would receivethe one on oneattention I wouldneed. The instructorsreally work with thestudents. Last

summer, I came back to OCtech to gaineven more skills on the latest technology.Learning new skills will help me get aheadand have more opportunities to advance. The instructors are flexible and help mejuggle class time and my work schedule tomake sure I succeed. OCtech works forthe working adult.

In 2005, I walked through the doors ofOCtech knowing that I wanted to becomea teacher. I enrolled in early childhood andgeneral education courses. After earning 80hours in college credits, I transferred toGrand Canyon University where I completeda Bachelor’s Degree online in ElementaryEducation with a minor in Early ChildhoodEducation. I continued on to complete aMaster’s in Divergent Learning at ColumbiaCollege. I got my first teaching job at Swansea

High School in Special Education and fell inlove with Special Education and mystudents. Since that time, I’ve takenadditional courses to become certified inSpecial Education. OCtech provided thefoundation I needed for my career inteaching. My instructors were so supportiveand I learned so much from them. OCtechwas the perfect place to begin myeducational journey!

If you already have an Associate’s Degree and are ready to startwork on a four-year degree, talk to our Transfer Advisor abouttaking your general education courses here. You’ll save moneyand enjoy the convenience of taking classes close to home. Many of the general education classes can also be taken online.

I am enjoying the Associate's to Bachelor'sDegree program offered by Columbia College. The courses in the program provide me the skillsand tools that I need to become a successfulleader. The classes are taught by instructors thatknow firsthand of the pressures and challengesfaced by working adults who are continuing theireducation. I live in Orangeburg, so I appreciatethe convenience of being able to take myColumbia College courses here on OCtech’scampus – that saves me time and money. This isan excellent option for those with an Associate'sDegree wanting to obtain a Bachelor's Degree.

The Path to College Begins Early...The OCtech Middle College Program is for rising high school juniors and seniors. Before a student graduateshigh school, he or she has the possibility of earning up to 24 college credit hours. For more information, callDeborah Cooper-Davis at 803.535.1409.

OCtech also participates in the nationally recognized pre-engineering Project Lead the Way® (PLTW®)curriculum to include models for increased dual credit and articulation opportunities. PLTW® is all aboutteaching and learning. For students interested in engineering or engineering technology, biomechanics, manufacturing, and other applied math and science areas, PLTW® is an exciting portal into these industries.Students can start earning college credits as early as their freshman year in high school.

Because my children were able to take dual credit classes while seniors in high school, theyeach started their freshman year of college with at least 12 credits. Each summer after highschool they took at least one class. All of their credits transferred, and the cost of classes atOCtech was a lot more affordable! - Leslie Fender, parent of a graduate of The Citadel and

a son and a daughter who attend The College of Charleston.

OCtech offers a culture of excellence and success that engages and challenges studentsthrough a comprehensive curriculum. - Lisa Jenkins, parent of a daughter who startedClemson with 19 transferred credits and a son who graduated high school with 21 credits.

Apprenticeships and Co-ops give select students theopportunity to work for a real employer, earn a real salaryand gain real workplace skills and experience. During an apprenticeship, the company pays for tuition

and books while also paying the participant a salary.Participants must be able to juggle a busy class schedulewith working a certain number of hours per week. With a co-op position, a student works for a company

for an entire semester. They will be paid by the company, and will not report to campus the entire semester, but willstill earn college credit. Generally, the company will notpay for tuition or books, but they do pay a generous salaryduring the co-op semester.

In our Computer, Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing Division, wehave opportunities for apprenticeships and co-ops at these companies: l BP Amocol Continental Tire l International Paperl SCE&Gl Showa-Denko

When a student participates in anapprenticeship or co-op, it is an

incredible opportunity not only for thestudent, but for the employer as well. Itallows the student to gain valuable realworld experience and begin buildingan impressive resume; it allows the

employer to preview the skills and workethics of a prospective futureemployee. Everybody wins!
