15 Days Best of Kenya

Day 1 : NAIROBI

Welcome to Kenya’s capital city. A Fairway representative will accompany you to Jacaranda Hotel for overnight

Day 2-3 : LAKE BOGORIA

The excitement begins in the morning once you start your safari driving North West of Nairobi to the Great Rift Valley. This will be your home for the next two nights which will give you enough time to explore the area. J.W Gregory a geologist and explorer, who travelled on foot from Mombasa, first set his eyes on Lake Bogoria in 1892 and described the scenes as ‘the most beautiful view in Africa.The lake is set at the bottom of a trough at the base of Ngendele escarpment. Hot water geysers and fearsome fumaroles are found on the western shoreline, evidence of the turmoil below . Game is in plenty and this is one of the places in Kenya where visitors can see and photograph Greater Kudu. Our accommodation is at Lake Bogoria Spa Resort.

Day 4-5 : LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK

Drive to Lake Nakuru this morning where you will spend the next two nights. Lake Nakuru is one of the saline lakes in the Great Rift Valley and has a diverse bird population. This includes many migrant species of flamingoes, peli-cans and other birds. Originally declared a national park because of a superbly diverse bird population. The park is also a favorite place for travelers to seek the rare black rhino. However, it is for the flamingos that the lake is best known. The park is also a sanctuary for black and white rhinos, so the chances of spotting these survivors are good. There are a number of Rothschild’s giraffes, buffaloes, and common zebra. Among predators are lion and leopard. Our accommodation is at Lake Nakuru Lodge

Day 6-7 : LAKE NAIVASHA

A short drive brings you to another Great Rift Valley Lake - Lake Naivasha, where you will enjoy the next two nights. It is the highest of the Rift Valley Lakes and also the larger of the only two fresh water lakes; It lies about 1880 m. This lake is also a birdwatchers fantasy. There are over 450species in the immediate area including the highland escarpments which surround the lake to the south and west. The surrounding landscape is also host to a variety of game including giraffe, buffalo, the elusive black faced colobus monkey and in the lake itself, schools of hippos that can also be seen grazing. Our accommodation is at Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge situated on the southern shores of the lake. Activities that can be arranged include horse-riding, bird watching, fishing, water sports, cycling, boat riding and nature trails.

Day 8-10 : MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE

The planet’s most amazing wildlife is on display here and the daily drama of this famous savanna will enrapture even the most stoic observer. This is the safari that you have read about, yet it is better than you ever imagined!Three nights will be spent here giving you the luxury of time to appreciate the reserve’s rich wildlife by game drives or even get to go on a hot air balloon safari. Your accommodation will also thrill you at Mara Sopa Lodge, built in traditional African style, situated in the eastern border of the reserve overlooking some of the most prime game viewing land on the continent.

Day 11 : NAIROBI

You spend a last morning in the bush admiring unspoilt Africa, you arrive in Nairobi in the afternoon and spend the rest of the day at leisure. Overnight in your city hotel

Day 12-14 : MOMBASA

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Mombasa, Kenya’s coastal city. You will stay for three nights at Mombasa Serena Beach Hotel at leisure or with optional activities.

Day 15 : DEPART

Today, your Africa tour comes to an end as you are transferred to the airport for your international flight home

Day 1 : NAIROBI

A seamless airport arrival has been arranged by a Fairway Safaris representative, who will also accompany you to Jacaranda hotel.

Day 2-3 : AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK

Today we embark on our safari and after leaving the busy streets and sky scrapers of Nairobi city, you will drive through small towns and into the dry and short bushes of whistling acacia bushes where you are likely to encounter small herds of herbivores. Amboseli National park boasts dramatic views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa. It dominates every vista. It is famous for its tranquil beauty and easily approachable wildlife; an excellent way to begin your game viewing expeditions.

Amboseli is a big game country: elephants, lions, buffalos, zebras, wildebeests and maasai giraffes. Morning and afternoon game runs are planned for today both of which will introduce you to intense beauty and drama that fill each day here. Predators stalk the herds of grazing animals, recreating the age-old drama of life and death under the African sun, in a setting so lushly beautiful. Our accommodation is at Amboseli Sopa Lodge

A short drives brings you to another Great Rift Valley Lake - Lake Naivasha, where you will enjoy the next two nights. It is the highest of the Rift Valley Lakes and also the larger of the only two fresh water lakes; It lies about 1880 m. This lake is also a birdwatchers fantancy. There are over 450species in the immediate area including the highland escarpments which surround the lake to the south and west. The surrounding landscape is also host to a variety

of game including giraffe, buffalo, the elusive black faced colobus monkey and in the lake itself, schools of hippos that can also be seen grazing. Our accommodation is at Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge situated on the southern shores of the lake. Activities that can be arranged include horse-riding, bird watching, fishing, water sports, cycling, boat riding and nature trails.

Day 6-8 : MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE

This day you will drive through the country side, to the vast savannah of Maasai Mara where you will spend three nights. This will give you time to appreciate the region’s rich wildlife or even the hot air balloon. Our game drives are colored with bush lore courtesy of our expert driver guides, who explain the dynamics of the wild and the importance of conservation. Our accommodation is at Mara Sopa lodge built in traditional African style. The lodge is situated on the eastern border of the park. Many activities can be arranged here including hot air balloon safari and Maasai village visits.

Day 9 : NAIROBI

Check out and drive to Nairobi; Kenya’s capital city. Overnight at your hotel.

Day 10-13 : MOMBASA

This morning you will fly to Mombasa and proceed to North coast where you will spend three nights relaxing on the white sand beach. Our accommodation will be at Mombasa Serena Beach hotel

Day 12 : DEPART

This morning; you will be transferred to the airport by a Fairway Safaris representative for your departure flight back home.

Day 1 : NAIROBI

Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport you will be met and transferred to The Jacaranda Hotel by a Fairway Safaris representative.

Day 2 : MOUNT KENYA

This morning after breakfast, you will drive north of Nairobi to the cool, crisp Kenyan highlands and our destination is Mountain lodge. The only tree hotel ever to be built on the slopes of Kenya’s legendary Mount Kenya. It offers a matchless game viewing opportunity whilst combining a glorious panorama of mountain vistas with the primordial splendors of an ancient rainforest. Overnight stay at Mountain lodge Day 3-4 : LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK

Today you will drive to the Great Rift Valley, our destination is one of the saline lakes, Lake Nakuru. Two nights in this area will give you enough time to explore and appreciate the flora and fauna. Originally declared a national park because of a superbly diverse bird population. The park is also a favorite place for travelers to seek the rare black rhino. However, it is for the flamingos that the lake is best known.

The Maasai Mara is our destination today. En route we will pass through Narok town, a busy Maasai trading and shopping centre. Maasai Mara is a game reserve shared by the Maasai people; the Mara certainly offers the finest game viewing in Kenya as well as the ideal location for an exhilarating hot air balloon safari. During your stay in the Mara you can also have the optional tour to visit Maasai village. Your accommodation will also thrill you at Mara Sopa Lodge, built in traditional African style, situated on the eastern border of the reserve overlooking some of the most prime game viewing land on the continent.

Day 10 : NAIROBI

This morning you will drive back to Nairobi where your city hotel awaits you. The rest of the afternoon will be spent at leisure.

Day 11-13 : MOMBASA

You will fly to Mombasa in the morning, where you will stay for three nights at your Mombasa Serena Beach hotel at leisure or with optional activities.

Day 14 : DEPART

Today, your Africa tour comes to an end as you are transferred to the airport for your international home bound flight.

Day 2-3 : AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK

Today begin your adventure by driving to Amboseli National park where you will find your Africa imagination! The pristine wilderness of haunting beauty, arcing vistas and rich thorny umbrella acacia trees. Two nights are spent exploring this wilderness. Amboseli is big game country: elephants, lions, buffalos, zebras, wildebeests and Maasai giraffes.

Day 4- 5 : TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK

Today you will drive to Namanga border where you will clear with customs and immigration. Proceed in Tanzanian vehicles and drive to Tarangire National Park. Tarangire is famous for its enormous herds and excellent game viewing; this is due to its permanent water source at the park. Herds of elephants can be viewed here; the park boasts about 4000 elephants, the game include also leopards, cheetahs and hyenas. Overnight at Tarangire Sopa Lodge; a tranquil oasis overlooking rolling plains.

Day 6 : LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK

Drive to Lake Manyara where mahogany forests, marsh, grass, scrubland and 350 species of birds populate this magnificent tangle of vegetation. On the game drives you will be on the lookout for the famous tree climbing lions which are synonymous with this area. Overnight at Lake Manyara Serena lodge

Day 7-8 : SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

Today you drive to the plains of Serengeti. On your way a visit to the world-renowned Olduvai Gorge where the Leakey family uncovered the fossil Homo habilis (the handyman) the first tool user who lived 1.75 million years ago. Proceed deep into the heart of Serengeti to the largest and diverse migration corridor in the world. Wildebeests and other antelopes use this area during their migrations. Our accommodation will be at Serengeti Sopa Lodge.

Day 9-10 : NGORONGORO CRATER

Drive to the remarkable site, Ngorongoro Crater. This unique ancient amphitheatre forms a unique haven for wildlife with over 200,000 animals thriving in this place. A world heritage site, and unofficial eighth wonder of the world, Ngorongoro crater is the volcanic highlands of Tanzania. It covers an area of 240 square kilometers. Overnight at Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge; an architectural marvel built on the rim of the collapsed volcano that boasts the magnificent views of the crater floor.

Day 11-13 : ZANZIBAR

In the morning transfer to Manyara airstrip for your flight to Zanzibar; on arrival, you will be met by a Fairway Safaris representative and transferred to your hotel. Three nights will be spent relaxing in Zanzibar with optional excursions

Zanzibar is an archipelago made up of Zanzibar and Pemba Islands, and several smaller islets. It is located in the Indian Ocean, about 25 miles from the Tanzanian coast.

Zanzibar Island (known locally as Unguja, but as Zanzibar internationally) is 60 miles long and 20 miles wide, occu-pying a total area of approximately 650 square miles. It is characterized by beautiful sandy beaches with fringing coral reefs, and the magic of historic Stone Town - said to be the only functioning ancient town in East Africa.

Excursions include: stone town tour, Spice plantations tour, Jazani Forest tour, and Prison Island Tour, Kizimkazi Mosque and Dolphin dhow tours among others.

Day 14 : DEPART

In the morning you will be transferred to the airport for your international flight back home.

12 Days HoneymoonFlying Safari

Day 1 : NAIROBI

Arrive in Kenya’s capital city and a Fairway Safaris representative takes you to Nairobi Serena Hotel on a bed and breakfast meal plan.

Day 2-3 : AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK

This morning you will wing your way over the scenic Athi plains and into the bush country of Amboseli Park, located in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, Amboseli is home to the legendary Maasai tribesmen and is world famous for its tremendous big game. Two nights are spent here giving you ample time to explore the park. Our accommodation is at Amboseli Serena Lodge

Day 4-5 : SAMBURU NATIONAL PARK

A light aircraft from Wilson Airport takes you to the North-ern part of Kenya - Samburu. Wild and rugged, Samburu is fiercely beautiful with its arid savannahs watered by the lovely Uwaso Nyiro river. It is home to species only found north of the equator, from the reticulated giraffe to Grevy’s zebras and beisa oryxes. Our accommodation is at Lars-en’s luxury tented camp.

Day 6-7: MASAI MARA

Excitement and expectations build as you fly to the Maasai Mara with its myth-like stories about bountiful wildlife. Maasai Mara is a game reserve shared by the Maasai people; the Mara certainly offers the finest game viewing in Kenya as well as the ideal location for an exhilarating hot air balloon safari. During your stay in the Mara you can also have the optional tour to visit Maasai village.

DAY 8 : NAIROBI

This morning you will fly back to Nairobi for overnight at Nairobi Serena Hotel on a bed and breakfast meal plan.

Drive to Ngorongoro Conservation area, a unique ancient amphitheatre which forms a unique haven for wildlife with over 200,000 animals thriving in this place. A world heritage site, and un official eighth wonder of the world, Ngorongoro crater is the volcanic highlands of Tanzania. It covers an area of 240 square kilometers. Day 12-14 : ZANZIBAR

This morning transfer to Manyara airstrip for your flight to Zanzibar; on arrival, you will be met by a Fairways repre-sentative and transferred to your hotel. Three nights will be spent relaxing in Zanzibar with optional excursions.

Day 1 - You arrive at Dik Dik Hotel Kili-manjaro for overnight

Day 2 - Breakfasts. Transfer from the Lodge to Kilimanjaro National Park Gate at Londorossi for the first section of the climb to reach forest campsite close to gate at 9000ft taking 4-5 hours. Over-night at Forest Campsite

Day 3 - From here you pass through for-est and then across the grassy moorland of the Shira Plateau to reach Shira Camp-site at 12500ft taking 5-6 hours. Over-night at Shira Camp

Day 4 - The hike will take 3 hours to cross the Shira Plateau and one hour to climb the western slope of Kibo Massif. Over-night Moyo Camp 12,950ft. Day 5 - Leaving the vegetation, the path continues to follow the ridge, passing through heather and open moorlands. Overnight Lava Tower Camp 14,400ft.

Day 6 - Walk towards Arrow Camp. Stay overnight at Arrow Campsite 16,000 ft.

Day 7 - The route winds up the Western Breach non-technical route about six to seven hours to the Crater rim.

Explore the inner Crater and the ash pit before moving to the high camp on the crater floor. Overnight Summit Crater Camp 18,500 ft.

Day 8 - A long day and an early start to reach the crater rim at Stella Point in time for sunrise. Then continue on to Uh-uru Peak 19340ft / 5,895m, the highest point in Africa. Descend to Mweka Camp 10000ft / 3,000 m for overnight stay taking 6-8 hours ascent and 5-7 hours descent. Overnight at Mweka Campsite.

Day 9 - Descend through the forest to the park gate at Mweka Wildlife College tak-ing 3-4. You are transferred back to Dik Dik Hotel Kilimanjaro for your dinner and overnight stay

Day 10 - Breakfast in hotel.

MACHAME ROUTE

Day 1 - You arrive at Dik Dik Hotel Kili-manjaro for dinner and overnight

Day 2 - Breakfast. Transfer from the Lodge to Kilimanjaro National Park Gate at Machame. From here you trek through the lush forest to Machame Hut

(3,000 m). Stay overnight at Machame Camp

Day 3 - Leaving the forest, the path fol-lows a steep ridge passing through heather and open moorlands and cross-ing a large gorge to reach Shira Hut (3,800m).Overnight stay at Shira Camp

Day 4 - You turn eastwards and continue ascending through the dry landscape before dropping again to reach Barranco (3,900 m). Stay overnight at Barranco Camp

Day 5 - The path climbs steeply out of Barranco Valley, crosses the Karanga Val-ley and turns north to reach Barafu Hut (4,600 m) Stay overnight Barafu Camp

Day 6 - A long day and an early start to reach the crater rim at Stella Point in time for sunrise. Then continue on to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the highest point in Africa. Descend to Barafu and down on to Mweka (3,000 m) Overnight stay at Mweka Camp

Day 7 - Descend to the park gate. You are transferred back to Dik Dik Hotel Kiliman-jaro for your dinner and overnight stay.

UMBWE ROUTE

Day 1 - You arrive at Dik Dik Hotel Kili-manjaro for overnight

Day 2 - Drive to Kilimanjaro National Park gate at Umbwe for the first section of the climb through the forest along a narrow ridge between Lonzo and Umbwe rivers to reach Bivouac No 1 at 2800m taking 4-5 hours. Overnight Bivouac No 1

Day 3 - Leaving the forest the path continues to follow the ridge, passing through heather and open moorland to reach Barranco campsite at 3900m taking 3-4 hours. Overnight at Barranco camp

Day 4 - Instead of travelling direct to Barafu, you split the climb to overnight at the Karranga Valley (3950m), taking 3 hours. The Karranga valley is a little deeper than those you have crossed dur-ing today’s climb, but smaller than the Barranco valley. Stay overnight at Kar-ranga Valley Camp.

Day 5 - The path climbs steeply out of Barranco Valley, crosses Karanga Valley and turns north to reach Barafu camp-site at 4600m taking 7-8 hours. Over-night Barafu Camp

Day 6 - A long day and an early start to reach Stella Point in time for sunrise. Continue on to Uhuru Peak the highest point in Africa at 5895m. Descend to Mweka campsite at 3000m for overnight camp taking 6-8 hours ascent and 5-7 hours descent. Overnight Mweka Camp

Day 7 - Descend through the forest to the park gate taking 3-4 hours to be met and transferred to AMEG Lodge Kilimanjaro for your overnight stay.

Day 8 - Breakfast in hotel. End of your tour.

MARANGU ROUTE

Day 1 - You arrive at Dik Dik Hotel Kili-manjaro for dinner and overnight

Day 2 - Breakfast. Transfer from the Lodge to Kilimanjaro National Park Gate at Marangu. From here you trek through the lush forest to Mandara Hut (2,750 m).Stay overnight at Mandara Hut

Day 3 - Leaving the forest, you trek along a good path through open grassy moor-lands to reach Horombo Hut (3,700 m). Stay overnight at Horombo Hut

Day 4 - Continue ascending past the Last Waterpoint to reach the Saddle, a dry area between the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi (4,700 m) Stay overnight at Kibo Hut.

Day 5 - An early start for the stiff walk up steep and heavy screed to reach Gill-man’s Point (5681 m) in time for sunrise. From here it is possible to continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the highest point Africa. Afterwards descend to Horombo Hut. Stay overnight at Horombo Hut

Day 6 - Descend to the park gate. You are transferred back to Dik Dik Hotel Kiliman-jaro for your dinner and overnight stay

Day 7 - Breakfast in hotel.

By 1979 there were only 120 Rothschild Giraffe found in Kenya. They had become endangered species. The late Jock Leslie founded the Giraffe Centre in 1979 Melville. The centre was established to save the endangered Rothschild Giraffe and to be an educational institution. Initially, two young giraffes were brought to the centre. Each year the number of young giraffes that were brought into the centre increased. As the young giraffes become adults, they are transferred to national parks. Some of these giraffes can now be found at Lake Nakuru National Park. A kiss from Rothschild Giraffe, is one of the memorable things guests can enjoy at the centre, guides can show one how to Kiss a giraffe.

The National Museum first its doors in 1910, and was known as East Africa Museum and History Society. It was relocated to its current site in 1929 and was renamed in memory of Robert Corydon. It houses an extensive Paleontology collection including excavations by Mary and Louis Leakey, as well as various exhibits of East Africa ornithology, marine and aquatic creatures, reptiles and shells. There are many exhibits that depict the history and geology of Kenya, Joy Adamson’s botanical painting (made famous in the movie Born Free), an old mammal hall and ethnography exhibits. A life size model of Ahmed, who was a favorite elephant of Kenya’s first president, and was under 24 hour’ssurveillance because of the huge size of its tusks, Ahmed died a natural death in 1974. The museum is just 5 minutes drive from city centre.

For reptile lovers, this is the right place; you will see non-venomous snakes, venomous black mambas as well as the rock pythons, crocodiles, wide array of lizards and giant tortoises. This option is only available in Nairobi.

The Snake Park is just next to the National Museum.

A visit to the Nairobi Safari Walk and Animal Orphanage shows you know what to expect on your Safari. Some of Kenya’s unique plants and animals that are close to extinction are on display here. You will learn the dangers facing them and what steps are being taken to preserve them. It is a home to 150 species of local trees and rich animal collection, which include the rare bongo, white rhino, albino zebra, antelopes, primates, and collection of cats, which includes lions, leopard, cheetah etc.

Here you find some of the old locomotives and coaches like the one Superintendent Charles Henry Ryall who was dragged from and killed by man-eating lions at Tsavo National Park on June 6, 1900. Others coaches were used to produce movies like Out of Africa, The Ghost and the Darkness. You learn how the railway line, the Lunatic Express was constructed from Mombasa to Uganda through Kisumu from May 30 1896 to December 19 1901.

The David Sheldrick Animal Orphanage was started in memory of David Sheldrick who died in June 1977. He was founding warden of Tsavo East National Park. Since its inception, the centre has played an extremely significant role in Kenya’s conversation efforts, acting as a watch dog on wildlife affairs. At the Centre, they rescue, hand rear and rehabilitate young elephants and rhino orphans as well as any wild species orphans that can ultimately enjoy the wild when grown. The centre takes all measures that compliment conservation, preservation and protection of wildlife.

The house, was built in 1912, and made famous by the movie ‘Out Of Africa’ starring Meryl Streep and Robert Redford. It was once the centerpiece of a coffee plantation owned by Baron Bror Von Blixen and his wife Karen Blixen. Karen bought the house in 1917 and lived there until her return to Denmark in 1931. You will find the original furniture and artefacts of the Blixen’s as well as some of the clothes worn by Meryl Streep and Robert Redford for the movie. Like most museums of the world, photography is not allowed inside the house but visitors can take photographs of the house from outside. The museum is only 20 minutes drive from city centre.
